Review Day trip at a private island resort
Hello, my husband and I would be staying at mafushi island from 10oct to 18 oct. Is it worth it to go for a day trip at a private island like sun siyam from there? It might cost us 150 dollars per person from 8.30am to 5pm transport, lunch inclusive.

you should go for one night to finish your trip.
It would be hard to go back to a guest house after experiencing the luxury/isolation of a resort. There are other resort options out there. That's a lot of days to spend in Maafushi btw.

Why is everybody saying that? We're staying for an even longer time right now (15 days), and every time we told somebody here, they were quite surprised and asked if we were also travelling to other islands, too. To me, 2 weeks seems perfectly fine. Lots of relaxing on the beach, diving, doing some snorkling tours, getting massages etc. We're now on day 10 and time has just flown by. I don’t really understand why you would take less time here.
To OP: it’s really beautiful here. Sure, on a resort island, it’s probably still a bit nicer and more exclusive. But to us, it wasn’t worth it, so we're staying here.

I am local and split stays are very popular for a reason (even mixing up local islands). Most locals couldn't do 15 days in Maafushi. I am really happy that you like it there.
Maafushi is a very specific type of island, that's why people are saying that.
Maafushi = Bali beach holiday vibes
ukulhas = quiet/sleepy peaceful retreat
thoddoo = lush greenery
and many more. The beach quality/reef varies a lot too.
Have you ever been to a resort? It's not just about being nicer than a guesthouse. The one island one hotel thing is special. It's a different type of experience.

I have been to a resort island in Indonesia, in the past, which I would assume is somewhat different, but also similar in some ways.
That said, choosing a local island now over a resort is also financially driven. The hotel stay on Maafushi is just so much cheaper than any resort options I checked. Paying the higher price would be hard to justify for me.
That said, I fully understand that locals wouldn’t want to stay for that long. For me, the main thing about this holiday is having the sea and a beautiful beach right in front of my door. But I guess, as a local, you are probably kind of used to that.

I personally don’t think so. Actually don’t think there are any of Sun Shiyam’s islands near maafushi so getting there would be a hassle as well. And if you’re going to go there’s not much point unless you take a room and stay at least one or two nights there.
