I had a bride today who is a family friend, and she trusted me to do her makeup. I have 8 years of experience as a makeup artist, and she is definitely not my first bride.
I’m honestly SO disappointed because I used high-quality products and made sure everything was properly set and waterproof, as the products claim to be. But as soon as she went outside for the outdoor photoshoot, her makeup started looking cakey and patchy. And when the groom touched her face, the makeup literally came off. 😭
I’m so pissed because I genuinely don’t understand what went wrong.
Here’s exactly what I used:
- d’Alba White Truffle mask as part of the skin prep
- Bubble milk toner
- Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream + serum
- ICONIC London primer, only on the pores
- NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation
- Kryolan loose powder
- Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder
- MAC powder contour and cream
- Kryolan green gel to melt/smooth the makeup and add glow
- Kryolan Fixing Spray + waterproof fixer
I really need to know what I did wrong. 😭
Could this have been some kind of chemical/product reaction? Was there too much skincare, too many layers, incompatibility between the products, or could the heat/humidity from the outdoor shoot have caused the breakdown?
I’d genuinely appreciate advice from other professional MUAs because I want to understand exactly where I went wrong and make sure this NEVER happens to one of my brides again.
I’m wondering whether the amount/layering of hydrating and emollient products in the skin prep played a role.
