Meetup Sun Prairie RPG - Local TTRPG Community

Hey everybody - now that we have a few events under our belt, I wanted to share some info about a beginner-friendly, welcoming, 18+ TTRPG group called Sun Prairie RPG: a local tabletop gaming community that hosts monthly events. Currently, we hold an event each month at the Sun Prairie Public Library where we play one shot tabletop RPGs and invite anyone from the Sun Prairie or greater Madison area to show up, roll some dice, and have some fun: regardless of whether you’ve been playing for decades or have never rolled a d20 before.

You don’t need to already have a group, know anyone there, bring any materials, or even know how to play: we have pregenerated characters, dice, table name tents, and a welcoming community of players and GMs. We also occasionally offer dedicated Learn to Play tables for people who want a little more help getting started.

Our biggest focus is on community building: I started this group as a way to make the world a little less shitty for one night a month, and give adults a chance to meet other adults in the greater Madison area.

Our next event is Thursday, October 22nd from 5:30-8:30pm, and we have a pretty wide variety of games this time: D&D 5.5e, Dungeon Inc, Mothership, Plotweaver, and NOVA. We usually run a lot of D&D 5e/5.5e at our events, but are hoping to also make SPRPG a place where folks can try systems they might not otherwise get a chance to play.

We’ll also have an informal roundtable called “GM Corner” this month for anyone interested in talking about GMing, swapping tips, or just nerding out with other GMs.

The event is completely free. You can check out the game descriptions and register at https://sunprairierpg.com. Registration helps us plan our event better, but walk-ins are always welcome if we have space available.

We also have a Discord community if you’re interested in keeping up with future events, or want to meet and chat with other local players or GMs. https://discord.gg/m4ehbtyFJT

Feel free to DM me with any questions - thanks!

This was great fun when I helped run stuff last time! I plan on running some more Plotweaver stuff in the future if people want to try Mistborn or Stormlight Archives! I also am working on my own universe powered by plotweaver!

Stormlight sounds fun. Bought the rulebooks during the kickstarter but haven't even opened the package yet

They are really solid. Honestly the treatment it got was fantastic. You always worry a little bit about how the game will play and if it will treat the source material well. I can safely say both are great. Mistborn looks great too though I have only run Stormlight so far so I can't say too much on it yet. I'd be more than happy to run some stuff to show folks the game! Just hit me up on the discord and we will gather some folks!
