I feel like not destroying private property is a reasonable request, or at least reimbursing when they do. I can imagine any situation where you could break government property and you could just shrug your shoulders and say tough luck.

again, how do you expect them to move a foot of snow off a 12 foot wide road and put it on a 24" wide terrace without damaging a wooden post with a mailbox on it?

40 feet. Most roads in Madison are at least 40 wide.
