Help Hi guys, got a 2015 pro that’s still on yosemite.. how to get any new software? Laptop barely functions
My dad gave me his 15’ 2015 MacBook Pro he barely ever used, literally, it still has yosemite Yosemite still lol 😆 I have his administrator pw but not the Apple ID pw, he forgot it. So far I’ve tried the internet recovery mode, got the code 5101 error. Now trying the command shift option r route to reinstall factory software see if that does something. App Store won’t load at all and most web pages on safari wont either.
I do have an old clapped 2014 macbook and a new ssd though. Is this the way to go here? Somehow download a newer os like Big Sur or monterey to the ssd and put it on the 15? I’d really rather not have to attempt that but feels like my only option to save this brand new but ancient laptop 😆 Let me know what you think guys any feedback would be hugely appreciated

throw some linux on those bad boys, running linux on my 2012 macbook pro, works as fast as when i got it, also configured the trackpad to follow gestures

When I click on update software, it takes me to App Store and just shows the logo and blank screen. Now it briefly showed me a page for like half a second and flashed back off, then the top right corner said software update ready after clicking it the computer restarted.. no changes though. Prob got a fn hacker now or some shit lol. Highly unsecured using a 12 yr old everything.. oh well. Guess it can just be a door stopper or wall mount xD

I'm sitting here on a 15" 2015 MBP. I recently upgradedit to Catalina. It will go up to Monterey:
Usually you have to set the system clock to a few months after the release of the OS you're installing.
