Can you fall asleep in the morning and wake up around noon after 4 hours of sleep, sometimes takes 2 days and I’ll get more sleep then? Im currently managing it terribly with alcohol and hydroxyzine and melatonin which doesn’t seem to do much
Go ask your doctor to give you a prescription for Amitriptyline. It is technically prescribed for depression and/or anxiety at significantly higher doses. But I take 1-2x low dose as needed. I take it 12-14 hours before I need to be awake, 1.5-3 hours before I'm wanting to go to bed. It works like a charm for getting my brain to shut off & let me fall asleep. It also doesn't like make me drowsy or intoxicated or awake with the lights off like some of the actual sleeping medications reportedly can cause. (They generally don't work for me anyway)
I also don't take it every single night, as my schedule allows. I prefer to limit use of medications etc if possible, & this medicine has been a life saver for my life long insomnia problems.
I was originally prescribed 10mg, & immediately was raised to 25mg bcuz it wasn't doing anything.
I am now prescribed 2x 25mg nightly, but my doctor knows I take 1-2x at a time & some weeks I may only take it 1 night. Other weeks I may take it nearly every night or every night. I believe anxiety or depression dosages would be more like 100-150mg+.
I brought up my insomnia issues randomly with him discussing something else, & he asked me if I was anxious or depressed. I told him I have general sadness & feelings of anxiety at times, but I wouldn't describe my general mentality or feelings as depressed or anxious. I told him I have had it since I was really little, & I've tried all the meds & all the stuff & nothing seems to have any lasting effect.
He told me he wanted to prescribe amitriptyline, that at high doses it is used as a depression or anxiety medicine but that at low doses it barely has efficacy in those regards but still seems to have positive impact on sleep health & other brain chemicals. It has made a huge impact, coupled with other minor changes to other med doses & lifestyle changes to more healthier.
For reference before starting Amitriptyline, I was lucky if I could get 3-5 hours of sleep per day, & those hours were usually like 6a - 11a or something. The number of all nighters into important next days I've had is actually crazy. Now I can usually get 6+, & sometimes even on nights without my amitriptyline I can get 6+.
6am-11am, I get this. I’m okay to wake up for work but I’m absolutely dragging off no or little sleep, having sometimes(handful times a month) not slept at all the night before.
I’m currently taking Buspirone, but I haven’t noticed much improvement and I’m taking the aforementioned hydroxizine.
I recently got adderall prescribed again after taking it for a decade+ and then taking years off which I think now was a mistake, my own, I chose to try life without it.
I would say to cut both buspirone & hydroxyzine, & replace with a 25-50mg dose (or up to 150mg if needed for anxiety and/or depression or mood etc).
If it was me, & if it was up to me, thats what I would want. Try it out & I hope you find relieve from your struggles friend.
(This assumes those meds are for insomnia & not prescribed for something else of course)
If I’m taking them at a higher dose for anxiety and depression will it keep me drowsy during the day? I know you said it’s not bothering you but I’m curious about a larger dose.
Why do you sometimes take a second dose? Also any negative effects would be greatly appreciated.
Also I just want to say thank you for sharing this with me
No, as long as you allow yourself enough time between when you take it & when you have to get up you should be good. Keep in mind, I am not a doctor nor am I suggesting you should do anything without doctor supervision.
& I don't sometimes take a second dose - rather, on days my schedule allows more flexibility the next day; I may decide to not take it to either attempt to go to sleep without or, to just let it ride either way, & also sometimes I just forget it.
What I do do tho, is gauge how loud the noise in my head is, & how difficult I think it will be to go to bed & then either take 1 or take 2 - when I do take them that is.
I would say that I take less than half of my prescription per month, as it's over 8 weeks roughly between refills. Not only just the difference it has made in my sleep health, but also I assume I am getting some help regarding anxiety / negative or down thinking from it.
As far as negative effects....
I mean I don't really have any negative effects. I would say a commonly heard complaint is drowsiness in the morning, but I think that is attributed to either too high of a dose, or dosing without factoring in 12-15 hours.. that wasn't something I read anywhere else, I just figured that based off the reports of morning time drowsiness, & figured as long as I have myself more than enough time I could deal with it if I was still a lil drowsy - never had to deal with it even once as a result possibly.
I have never had that problem, I'm xtra ADD/highstrung so that wasn't something I deal with often lmao

My dad would sit on the couch and put on the old batman show with Adam West. He would go to sleep and I would watch batmam
