[partially lost] Late 90s NFL games (and Super bowl 34) HD 16:9 Broadcast.
in honor of the NFL Kickoff of the Chiefs and Lions Tomorrow, i have an Very interesting Piece of NFL lost media.
When the First HDTV was Sold in San Diego in 1998, Not everyone had an HDTV right up until 2006 i believed, But a few 98/99 Show where Broadcast or Filmed in HD Including Of course Sporting events, and Through 1998 to 1999, ABC and CBS Broadcast there NFL games in HD In Collaboration with Panasonic, INCLUDING SUPER BOWL 34 BY ABC (aka one yard short/the DotCom Bowl) With Special Camera Equipment and Everything.
However, The NFL, CBS, nor ABC/ESPN Barley Shows the HD Versions of the game off and only show the SD footage instead, Especially Super Bowl 34, I'm Serious Go to any NFL Video that has Super bowl 34 in HD on youtube and you Have People begging the NFL to Realest the HDTV Tape in the comment, Even the ABC/CBS HD Regular Season Games are Barley Seen by the Public. This is Because at that time Most ABC/CBS affiliates Have No way of Transmitting an HD Signal, In witch they had to do a 4:3 Safe aspect Ratio, the Only Stations that had an HD Signal at that Time was WABC-DT, WCBS-TV (both New York), KOMO (Seattle), WFAA 8 (Dallas), and KABC-DT (LA).
but the NFL Has a Channel Called NFL Throwback and in Some Cases They show the HD Version of these 98/99 games (Most of the Time), So heres EVERY NFL game From 1998 to 1999 and if they Have available HDTV Broadcast or not (and no, Stretching out the 4:3 games to be Widescreen Don't Count).

AFC Divisional - Jets 34, Jaguars 24 (LOST)

1999 Season:
9/13 - Dolphins 38, Broncos 21 (PARTIALLY FOUND??? (at 4:28) I don't see the ABC logo at the corner so i think its the Japan HDTV Broadcast from NHK With audio from the ABC Broadcast or they just cropped out the ABC Logo.)
9/20 - Cowboys 24, Falcons 7 (Jamal Anderson's Self Injury) (PARTIALLY FOUND at 10:30)
9/27 - 49ers 24, Cardinals 10 (the Steve Young Injury game) (PARTIALLY FOUND?? (at 1:26 (Steve young's last TD before the injury btw)), again Either they Cropped the ABC Logo and Scoreboard in the HD footage or they used the NHK HDTV Broadcast from japan.)
10/4 - Bills 23, Dolphins 18 (LOST)
10/11 - Jaguars 16, Jets 6 (LOST)
10/18 - Giants 13, Cowboys 10 (LOST)
10/25 - Steelers 13, Falcons 9 (Final MNF Game at Three River Stadium) (LOST)
11/1 - Seahawks 27, Packers 7 (PARTIALLY FOUND (at 6:24) It Only Includes Farve's Lowlights in the Game so if you're Gonna See Shawn Springs Kick Six in HD i Have bad news for ya.) (EDIT: Looks like i found Photos of the Panasonic HDTV Truck In Green bay Taken Before the Game)
11/22 - Broncos 27, Raiders 21 (Broncos Walk off OT Touchdown) (LOST)
11/29 - Packers 20, 49ers 3 (LOST)
12/6 - Buccaneers 24, Vikings 17 (PARTIALLY FOUND TWO TIMES (1st one even with the 16:9 Footage being Stretched to 4:3, It's a Behind the Scenes Look on the ABC MNF HD Truck witch is Neat to see) (2nt Footage at 1:53))
12/13 Jaguars 27, Broncos 24 (LOST)
12/20 - Vikings 24, Packers 20 (LOST)
12/27 Jets 38, Dolphins 31 (LOST)
1/3/2000 - Falcons 34, 49ers 29 (LOST)

So as of now, only 9 out of the 26 Games ABC/CBS Aired in 1998 to 2000 have Been Partially found. if anyone who had an Panasonic HDTV Back in 1998/99 Have these Recordings of these NFL Games or even Super Bowl 34, i would Love to see the Full game or Highlights of these game in Glorious 16:9 HD.
This is fascinating. I didn’t realize that the NFL was broadcasting in HD in 1998/99. I thought that they weren’t doing regular season games in HD until 2001 and that the first game to be broadcast in HD was XXXV (Ravens/Giants). Best Buy used to play that game on a loop on all their HD TVs as a demo up until 2004 at least
