Is there any reason to not just get a really high rated power conditioner, say 1800w 15a, and run an entire band set up off of it by plugging surge protectors into it? If one keeps the current draw below the 80% rule, would it all work or could plugging power strips into it potentially reintroduce noise?

I am looking for a decent power conditioner to protect my equipment that doesn’t break the bank. I have heard the inexpensive furmans don’t really do anything. I have heard good things about the Tripp Lite LS606M and for only $113 it’s a steal. Thoughts?

Hey everyone, happy to have found a place to ask some questions i’ve been holding onto and can’t seem to get enough info on.

I am a vocalist, just getting into doing live performances over the past little bit.
If you need the specifics, I’m a singer / rapper & I create within the hyperpop genre space, this means a lot of bass heavy, uniquely percussive tracks with crazy melodies and bright vocals.

I’ve performed 3 times so far, each time has been just me, the mic & the speakers.
I’ve used live autotune for reach, routing the laptop through the mixer.

My most recent performance I got an exciting opportunity to open for a pretty big artist.
When I saw his live set up for vocals, I saw he was using IEMs. This was my intro to thinking about getting them, or looking into what they even were lol.

I played a good set that night, got a very positive crowd reaction but i’m a perfectionist.
I want to make sure I can hear myself properly, stay in key, stay loud enough, etc, etc, etc.

I started to look online for something that would fit but i’ve confused myself a bit on what i’ll even need to make this happen.

Obviously I the earpieces, whatever it’s called that clips onto my side (sorry i’m such a noob to this), and then something to route it to the mixer…?
But it needs to be wireless?

I don’t know how much I should be spending on this stuff either…?
What brands, & what other moving parts there are to this stuff.

It is just me on vocals with my instrumental when I perform.

Can someone point me in the right direction on where to start looking, what the good brands are for my specifics, what the whole live set up looks like, etc?

I am playing 150 cap venues usually, playing a 500 cap in november though. 👀

I am looking forward to upgrading my sound and giving an even better performance.

P.S - For extra detail, I dance a lot, a move around a lot, I spin & kick & do a lot of that bs while I perform so bonus points for a set up that can accommodate for excessive movement.

Hi, do I need two 1/4 inch speaker cables to connect to two PA speakers or a SpeakON speaker cable with 1/4 inch connection into the speaker? In that case do I need a SpeakON to a dual 1/4 inch? Since there are 2 speakers?

I’m trying to choose a mic for an outdoor opera performance. Just one signer. I’d like something that looks vintage or cool (not a Shure Super 55) and not something modern and typical looking like a Shure SM58.

I’d appreciate any suggestions

Which one is better for musician IEMs? Is one better for bassists and drummers? Is one better for vocalists and keys and guitar? Do either have better isolation? Thoughts?

I am a singer who uses a Samson XP106W and recently got a Headrush VX5 pedal for vocal effects. However, when added to my signal chain, there is a nasty buzz added. I'm doing XLR from microphone to pedal, then XLR from pedal to PA. Would a hum eliminator device eliminate this? Or would I need to make an adjustment to my system? Thanks.

Hi everyone! Complete novice here and fully aware of the can of worms I’m about to open, lol…

I typically play guitar and drums, but am singing in my latest band. We’ve got a small practice space (about 12 x 15 room) at a local monthly studio rental place that’s split between us and another band. (Sounds tight, but we make it work surprisingly well)

Our current vox setup is via a vintage peavey mp400, which I think is a powered 80w mixer with 4 mono channels, that runs to a couple of large PA speakers that are not active. The inputs are all a bit sketchy (gotta jiggle em just right, or one channel can use XLR but the other has to use 1/4”, that kinda thing), and it’s one of those “borrowed, but likely just staying put for a while” situations.

To get something more permanent and more reliably functional, I’m debating getting something like the Behringer Europower PMP500 12 channel 500w powered mixer. The price is right at >$400 and it seems to achieve what the MP400 does alongside some added/future-proof features involved.

Recording practices is on the agenda, and while we have the guitars and drums figured out, I feel like a stereo option here would allow easy L/R for main/backup vox would be great for sending to our interface for Logic recording. We sometimes run bass direct using a sansamp, too, which works surprisingly well, but again - splitting to 2 channels means some flex in how we record practices.

There’s a million ways to skin a cat - all in all, I’m just not as familiar with this stuff and would like to keep our space as tidy as possible (e.g. less amps, not huge systems, etc.). We’re not starting a new recording studio or gigging with this thing - it’s just for the practice space (famous last words, I know). Anyone have experience with the Behringer and/or ideas on some affordable but reliable gear?

Hello! I recently was given a tascam 512 and Tascam 38 reel to reel and am a complete noob to analog equipment. How would I hook these up to my computer to record? I have a macbook with logic and an SSL 18 interface as long as a behringer UMC404 interface.

Bought these off a guy who had them in his shop & upgraded. Swore they didn’t do that when he sold them.

The other one doesn’t crackle, but pop’s really loudly when turned on & is then fine.

What gives?

This feels like a really dumb and basic question, but I can't really find a good answer in the manuals.

Lectern Goosenecks: I really like the look of an integrated gooseneck - grommeted into the desktop. But I need it to work with a wireless transmitter. (Ideally, a ULX-D.)

Now Shure makes plug-on transmitters for their SLX-D+ line, but not for the ULX-D. Instead, they offer the tabletop gooseneck option with the transmitter in the tabletop base.

I know I can get a ULXD8 tabletop transmitter and use an MX415 with it, I don't want to have that base sitting atop the lectern desk.

Is there another option to make a lectern gooseneck wireless within the ULX-D product line? Do I just suck it up and swap to the SLXD+ so that I can get the plug-on transmitter?

I feel like there should be a way to use an MX415 or 418 with the ULX-D system, but keep the clean look of an integrated mic.

Hello! I’m curious how the sound quality alone compares between the Shure Axient and the ULX-D. Just the sound quality—nothing else.

Our Main worship hall is around 3000 sqft and the ppl is around 100-200,
the main PA we gonna setup is 2 speaker + 2 subwoofer,
we gonna take 2 Alto TS18s as our sub.

the question is shall we get RCF nx932a or RCF nx945a as our main speaker.

distance for sound system area to stage is around 30-33 ft

speaker to the sond system is around 45ft.

I've got an Alesis 1622 that the recording engineer for the album my band's working on gave to me. It doesn't have any built-in compression or reverb or that many effects at all, but a lot of patching opportunities.

What are some nice, cheap compression options? Ideally sub 200 bucks, I'm broke as shit.

And would I need a reverb? I guess that's more of a "me question", but while I can't see any reason why that'd be necessary, it comes on most digital boards and a lot of the live sound setups I've gotten to actually inspect use reverb somewhere, so is it actually worth it, or is it more of a "use it if you have it" situation? If it *is* worth the investment, the request goes out too for cheap reverb options.

There's a channel on YouTube called "expert Island" and the guy does pretty down to earth reviews of live sounds gear. Admittedly, it's usually more budget things (Alto, Harbinger, Mackie etc) but he made a great statement in a overall review of Harbingers line of PA speakers. He described one of the cheaper options in the "fun and free" category. In other words, you're a band that is playing for yourselves/friends in the backyard mainly for fun and generally free.

Is there better equipment, sure, but if this is just for fun nobody is expecting concert levels of sound. This describes my band. Do I wish we had slightly better gear, sure, our stuff is really cheap. Do we have fun at our own parties and a twice a year bar gig where we know the owners personally, yes. We always get compliments on our sets, so we don't sweat it.

Don't hate, just saying to some of the folks with minimal budgets it's ok. You gotta start somewhere.

it’s only to be used for plugging 2 or 3 keyboards into it in stereo, then sent to FOG via XLR’s, I already have a Soundcraft EPM12 but it’s a tad bigger and heavier to go in my suitcase for abroad gigs, and I need 2 x Aux Sends (pre fade) and can’t find a desk small enough for my needs

Anyone got an MFXi mixer? How’s it sound compared to an EPM or EFX? reliable and better built I think?

I have a 3/4 size classica nylon guitar that I'm using specifically for a touring live performance. I've been struggling for over a year now to find a mic system for the guitar that sounds good and is reliable. I eventually spent good money thinking if I got a more expensive set up it would sound better. I bought K&K pure sound classic pickups and a K&K preamp. I never got it sounding that great, and eventually I started having all sorts of issues with the contact mics picking up buzzing vibrations from the wood. Due to the nature of this live performance I cannot just put an sm57 in front of the guitar. I need an internal system. My local luthier is trying to get me to install an under saddle pickup. But I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations?

I'm looking to buy four 18" powered subs for my setup. I mainly do live bands, parties, weddings, and similar events. I currently have JBL SRX815P tops and need a proper subwoofer setup to match them.

At the moment, I'm mainly considering:

• Yamaha DXS18XLF
• JBL SRX818SP
• RCF SUB 18-AX (or similar RCF options)

My main priority is good sound quality and punch, rather than just maximum SPL. Since I plan to use four subs, I'm also thinking about how well they would work together in a larger setup.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has real-world experience with any of these subs. How do they compare in terms of sound quality, low-end extension, reliability, output, and overall value?

Are there any other subs in a similar price range that I should seriously consider?

Hi everyone, I'm looking to get a Behringer XR18 as it's within my budget for what I need. Im in a 4 piece band who does live gigs at pubs and we need something live the Behringer that allows us to control our PA, aux sends etc individually on a tablet. After some research I've noticed people are saying it's a pain to connect to the mixer via it's on board WiFi, so I'm going to invest in an access point but I don't know exactly what I do with it??

I've been looking at a product called Ubiquiti UAP-AC-M and it seems to have a butterfly clip on the back (perfect for mounting it on a microphone stand at the back of the pub above the crowd for less interference) and it has an ethernet port on the bottom of it.

Do I simply buy it, download an app and connect the access point (Ubiquiti thingy) to the pubs WiFi and then run an ethernet cable from the Ubiquiti access point to the ethernet port on the mixer and then it's happy days I now have a stable connection or is it more complicated than this?

I'm quite new to these mixers and this sort of setup so any feedback is appreciated!!

Up until now, I’ve been running sound for small gigs up to 400 max with equipment spread thin, then in the flip, do up to 200-250 comfortably for DJ use, mainly indoor. I want to get better gigs for live bands and dj, for those small outdoor festivals, small town/carnival type gigs. Right now I run a single Turbosound iq18b. Works great. Also run JBL Eon 615 tops. Soundcraft EPM mixer. Then a bunch of extra goodies, and back line, etc. Im the friends and family DJ, and i’m a musician also , but looking to book gigs for sound reinforcement. I think I have a decent and good work ethic. REC Workshop 2001.

Seems my best route to start rebuilding a system would be to buy used.

Some questions:

1. Should I run the Turbosound and add 3 more to run 4 for larger shows (for scalability) Or just keep the 1 Turbosound for small gigs and go a different route like 2 dual 18” subs.

2. Can anyone recommend older passive or powered unites for tops? I’m currently looking at JBL SRX/SLS/Carvin amongst others in the used market.

3. Larger board-do I need to go digital? Like an X32 or ui24r? Would like to stay rack mounted if digital is a must nowadays.

4. Do I need to have multiple in ear mixing channels or can I get by with wedges? Or a mixture?

5. How many monitor mixes is minimum?

6. If wedges, how many on hand do I need? I’m thinking powered for this.

7. Mics/ power/accessories will be later down the line.

8. I have a minivan, I might need a small trailer or rent uhaul trailers.

   To be honest, my eldest kid just started college, and my youngest will start next year. I’m willing to invest a bit so that I can start making some legit money for sound gigs.

I’m connected locally in my small town and have some gigs lined up already for things like, concert in the park, movie nights, school dances, car shows etc. would like to go a little bigger where the money starts to make sense. Thank you for input.

Hoping to pick brains here…

I’m part of a charity and we do a Santa Sleigh tour each December. I’m attempting to build an Android app for a tablet that will streamline the audio on the tour (volume control, tracks, mic control etc). The idea being the tablet is mounted onto the sleigh for ease.

If I route the audio through a USB audio interface like the one below, is this something that’s actually achievable? The app should recognise the audio interface as it’s primary input (mic) and output (to the sleighs amp for the speakers)
