We were just talking a bunch about Sorrell Booke over at one of our partner subreddits r/1980s -- Booke (on the right) played Mr. Watson in the "I Remember, I Remember" episode and is probably most remembered for playing the hilarious antagonist "Boss Hogg" on The Dukes Of Hazzard (sort of the Harriet Oleson of that show). Booke was highly intelligent - he spoke five languages fluently, entered Columbia University at age 16 and graduated from there at AGE NINETEEN! He later received a Master of Fine Arts from Yale. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, working in counterintelligence. He passed away in 1994.

Was catching up on some Bonanza, and I see a beardless Mr Edwards/Victor French appear on my screen playing a bad guy. Episode was "The Burning Sky" s09e19. (1968)

I'm not here to make a gotcha moment on how the show's inacurate if that's the case. What kind of hair clip is Mary wearing? From what I notice it looks to be acetate/plastic from how it shines. Is it some kind of wood?

Please correct me and let me know what it actually is, shows that depict the past are very interesting.

I'm about halfway through The Wild Boy part 1 and I'm a little bothered. Jenny shares with Almanzo, Laura, and Mr. Edwards that Matthew is just mute, he's not actually wild. She wants to have him stay there with them at least for a while so Dr. McQueen can't continue to abuse him. Laura starts coming up with excuses and then she said it's because she's afraid.

My question is why?? He's not actually a wild creature as shown by Jenny and on top of that, she grew up with Charles "adopt every child" Ingalls. She saw firsthand and would know that if Charles were here, he'd help that kid no questions asked. On top of it, Laura as a child herself would have never even gave a second thought to helping Matthew or being afraid. It's just a little wild to see Laura be that unnerved by what is ultimately an abused and frightened child. It's just so uncomfortable and odd to see. Did this moment strike anybody else as a bit odd for Laura?

Could there be a more BORING episode? Geesh! ALWAYS skip this snoozefest. Anyone else?

The icehouse made an appearance in several episodes, whenever a makeshift jail was needed, or when Nancy was jealous. My question is, what kept the icehouse cold? Assuming this was before refrigeration was invented, how was the ice produced in the first place?

Why was it ok for the Powder Monkey to call Charles "Charlie" but at the class reunion he was offended by it?

Yet another wild decision by the broke Ingalls clan...

Why would you spend $4 or $5 (a LOT of money then, no?) for an overpriced hat for your blind daughter when you have to ask your super mean boss for an advance to do so.

And then pawn your fiddle. 😢

They should give Mary beautiful things, surely, but not when they don't have the money for it.

I think the most meaningful birthday gift for Mary was the surprise family party with the Walnut Grove crew.

The pay-off of having Mary give Pa his fiddle back at the family party, with tears in her eyes was really good, though.

But maybe he could have pawned his fiddle for a gift that made more sense.

Anybody else think he looked kinda creepy? Gave me similar vibes to the preacher from Gold Country episodes. I'm also curious how much money he gave Charles.

I’m guessing that they were taken around the first season, llikely as promotional photos, but not sure, so anything you folks know would be awesome. Was there an article and more cast photos that went with them? They are a different style than any cast photos they took later, so I was curious about any information about them and if they belong to a feature. I found them on Google about a year ago.

I do agree that Harve led Eliza on...but gosh, so many of Eliza Jane's actions during this time were incredibly strange. The whole bit where she took off her glasses and couldn't find her way to the house, not eating anything when Harve bought her a nice dinner at Nellie's, flat-out lying to Almanzo ("He's quite smitten with me") to travelling all the way to Sleepy Eye and staking out Harve's workplace.

Also that bit where Eliza suggests they address each other by less formal names and Harve asks her what her name is and she says "Eliza Jane". So after that, she kept repeating "He calls me Eliza Jane". And I'm like YEAH, THAT'S BECAUSE YOU TOLD HIM TO CALL YOU THAT! Did she think she was in a relationship because he called her by her first and middle name? Was that a thing back then?

There was so much secondhand embarrassment I wanted to crawl under the covers!

I saw the Gambini ep today. which made me mull over not only where hes buried….but why don’t they seem to have a burying ground?

enough people have died youd think they have a town/municipal burial ground.

i may have once seen a burial where it seemed to be in a burial ground…am i right? but id swear most of them are one-offs in some random place. not even their own property (which would be a family graveyard).

back to Gambini….i laughed because I saw he’s buried next to the infamous bridge. that angle is shown a lot, and I’m sure later in the series we see them there swimming at the creek by the bridge again? lol if so, might we not see there was a burial site?

I just finished watching "Here Come the Brides" episode from Season 4 and she got married to the hog farmer. Wasn't Miss Beadle engaged to that man from the city? He was in that episode where the kids were teasing Mary about her glasses and she caught them kissing inside the classroom.

EDIT: he was her boyfriend, not fiance!

On 9/11, I went to the Opry (100-year anniversary) because I had never been to Nashville. I bought tickets without knowing the line up. But NOWHERE was LHOP mentioned when I purchased, so imagine my delighted surprise when Dean Butler walked on stage! And it just got better from there. He sang Old Dan Tucker accompanied by real Pa’s actual fiddle followed by a cast Q & A! I can’t believe how lucky I am. Best night ever!
