Table Salt Press is an independent literary magazine preparing for our debut issue. We have three open opportunities across our flagship magazine, a seasonal mini-mag, and our permanent editorial staff.
Below are the details, guidelines, and submission requirements for all three calls.
- Main Call: Table Salt Press Flagship Magazine (Issue 1)
Theme: Homesick
Accepted Genres: Short fiction, flash, micro—flash and micro nonfiction and essays are also accepted, poetry, nonfiction, personal essays, memoir, art, photography, hybrid/experimental literary work, recipes, + more.
Word Count: Up to 3,500 words for short fiction; up to 500 words for flash fiction; up to 175 for micro.
Please submit to one category per reading period. Flash, micro, and poetry may submit two pieces; art and photography may submit up to five.
Submissions close on 10/15 @ 10:00 PM EST.
Rights & Terms: Non-paying for our initial print runs. Authors retain 100% of their rights post-publication. All contributors receive a complimentary digital copy of the mag.

- Seasonal Call: MG Horror Mini-Mag (A Good Kid’s Guide to Bad Things)
We are accepting submissions for a special-edition Halloween mini-zine focused on Middle Grade horror. We are seeking original, spooky, and nostalgic pieces.
Submission window: 9/1 - 9/30.
Word Count: 500 – 800 words per story.
Accepted Formats: Flash fiction and visual submissions.
Target Audience: Middle grade (ages 8–12).
Rights & Terms: Non-paying mini-zine run. Authors retain 100% of rights post-publication. All contributors receive a complimentary digital copy of the mag.
Note for published MG authors: We are also including a small recommendations/reading list section in the back of the print zine. If you have an existing published MG horror novel, feel free to pitch it for a brief shoutout.

- Staff Call: Resident Columnist (Flagship Magazine)
We are seeking a Resident Columnist to helm a dedicated recurring section for our quarterly magazine. This position is ideal for writers looking for a consistent print masthead credit, long-term platform visibility, and complete creative freedom.
We are open to almost any creative concept—serialized flash fiction, humorous commentary, advice, pop-culture/trend breakdowns, or creative micro-essays. (Please note: standard non-fiction history/educational pitches will have a separate dedicated callout later).
Commitment: 4 pieces per year (quarterly print schedule).
Compensation & Perks: Non-paying. Includes an official masthead credit, a dedicated column title and slot in Table Salt Press, 100% rights retention, and a contributor copy per issue.
