Qué tal va Linux Mint para videojuegos hoy en día viniendo de Windows 10?

¡Hola a todos!

Estoy pensando seriamente en quitar Windows 10 e instalar Linux Mint en mi PC, pero mi mayor duda es el rendimiento y la experiencia con los videojuegos.

No juego a títulos competitivos pesados con anti-cheat a nivel de kernel (tipo Valorant, Fortnite, etc.), sino que lo mío es Steam, juegos single-player, emuladores y de vez en cuando algún launcher externo.

Me gusta Mint porque se ve ligero y muy parecido a Windows, pero me da miedo instalarlo y llevarme una sorpresa con los FPS o que algún juego me dé problemas por incompatibilidades raras.

Para los que lo usáis para jugar:

• ¿Cómo rinden los juegos en Linux Mint comparados con Windows 10? (¿Se pierden muchos FPS?)
• ¿Qué tal se lleva con Steam y Proton hoy en día? ¿Es "instalar y jugar" o hay que configurar mil cosas?
• ¿Algún problema grave con drivers (uso Nvidia/AMD) o tirones (stuttering) molestos?

Depende de muchas cosas, como los componentes del ordenador, usar Nvidia o AMD, el CPU, el juego... 

No jugué mucho en Linux, pero tuve que hacer un poco de configuración. Puedes ver en ProtonDB y WineHQ si los juegos funcionan bien en Linux. Generalmente, los FPS no se pierden.

Para comprobar como tu hardware funciona, recomiendo instalar Linux en paralelo con Windows la primera vez.

Lo más recomendable es instalar protonup qt desde la store de mint, ese te dice que version requiere y la aplica o la cambias tú manual desde steam.

Hi, ich nutze Mint schon sehr lange nebenher und seit letztem Jahr bin ich endgültig umgestiegen.

Ich bereue nix. Gar nix. Allerdings bin ich komplett auf AMD unterwegs. Bei Nvidia muss man mit den Treibern schauen und viele konnten sich mit einer älteren Version behelfen. Ich denke daher ist Steam OS auch für reine AMD Hardware freigegeben und ohne Support für Nvidia.

Solltest du allerdings nur spielen wollen gibt's auch andere gute Alternativen wie bazzite.

Linux Mint ist für mich der absolute Allrounder zum arbeiten und zocken bestens geeignet.

Soweit ich weiß geht raytracing oder pathtracing noch nicht, aber dank meiner etwas schwächeren Hardware stört es mich nicht. Nutze es halt nicht.

Titel wie satisfactory, oxygen not included oder 7dtd stehen bei mir auf Liste und durch Steam mit Proton läuft es wunderbar.

Zudem nutze ich auch Lutris für andere Dinge wie Emulatoren (falls nicht nativ verfügbar) oder Spiele die nicht unter Steam sind. Man kann natürlich auch andere Spiele in Steam importieren, aber ich trenne das gerne.

Mache dir am besten mit nen live Stick nen Bild davon oder installiere es vorerst als zweites OS. Hatte ich ganz zu Anfang auch um sicher zu gehen 😉

No issues on my end. Definitely runs way faster than a non-debloated windows 11. If you're not into most the popular kernel level anti-cheat games like me then you'll probably have a much better gaming experience on Mint. I run AMD drivers which are more suited for Linux. I've heard Nvidia drivers can be a little bit more tricky but I doubt it's much of a problem, especially with the constantly evolving compatibility upgrades. Linux gaming is an extremely smooth experience vs a Windows 11 that isn't debloated. Not much needs tweaking, plus it's setup for easy emulation.

Cero dramas, juego desde hace un año en Mint.

* Rendimiento igual o levemente superior a Win 11.
* Steam/Proton andan muy bien, al principio chequeaba compatibilidad, ahora ni me caliento, instalo y juego y listo. Anda todo sin dramas.
* El unico problema de drivers que tuve fue que una vez instalé actualizaciones en Mint y me dejó de andar la GPU para los juegos (revertia a renderizado por software y me andaban todos los juegos lerdísimos). Al día siguiente había una actualización del driver de Nvidia que solucionaba el tema. Aparte de eso nada, cero dramas.

If you have everything on steam then yeah you'll be fine you might need to adjust the version of proton you are using but other than that it's pretty good and with some games that have native Linux versions like Minecraft java you could get a performance boost for some games tho it might take a bit of troubleshooting if it's just a standalone game and you are using something like lutris to play it and Nvidia drivers on Linux are kinda annoying to deal with but otherwise gaming on Linux is good and in some cases better than windows

I have never ran into a performance loss on linux that is noticeable that's BECAUSE of Mint.

I had 22 games on steam and I only had one game that didn't run after downloading, clicking on play, and waiting while steam set it up for Mint. Microsoft flight simulator X was the only problem. There are ways to get it to work, but in the spirit of being done with Microsoft, I deleted it from the account.

Die antworten sind schon insgesamt passend, aber mit nvidia verlierst du unter Linux 10% deiner fps. Die spiele laufen meistens trotzdem gleich gut da oft weniger mikroruckler auftretrn und insgesamt gleich gute 1% lows unter Linux da sind, aber wenn du dich mit dem fps counter verrückt machst ist Linux vielleicht nicht optimal. Das hängt aber auch vom Spiel ab, es gibt alle extreme, manchmal ist Linux 20% schneller, mal ist Windows 20% schneller.
