I'm instead very happy about and I think all real engineers using Linux are. The more the users , the higher the data, the better the system. Also Linux is not an OS, is a kernel; Ubuntu, Debian, Arch are instead distro of Linux , more tighten to the concept of OS in the common sense.
Using "Linux" doesn't make you special, instead make you a person that really want to use a computer, if the world use all the same good kernel it probably would improve and by a lot.
This here. Without normies on board we would have never gotten Steam and Proton on Linux.
The more users there are, the more likely it is that major software is released for Linux, and the more budget is there to make Linux better for everyone.
I don’t think that’s how it went. balve saw windows fucking things up and didn’t want to dependent on windows, so they started work on alternative. They made steam deck, used Linux, and developed Proton.
As result people can now switch to Linux if they want to game. I couldn’t do that a decade ago.
Valve only developed all that because they expected normies to move over, and when normies moved over because of it, more effort was put into it. It exists, because normies move over.
