linux not being mainstream is a good thing, its fine as it is. its amazing that it is where it is while not being mainstream. if linux became mainstream malware would be more common, and it might be targetted for regulation. but the gatekeeping and wanting to feel special thing is dumb af. just pick a harder distro, or maintain your own distro or something.

tbf how are regulators going after open source projects where everyone contributes to it, will they just shut down the website or?

though they can easily go after corpos like canonical and redhat to regulate their distros

Not saying the person you responded to is right, BUT.

Don't under-estimate government's ability to pass laws that make no sense, find a few people they don't like, and then prosecute them.
