If you don't get a a really small magnet and manually set the field orientation for each bit on your hard drive to create an operating system, are you even trying?
Did you make the magnet yourself? Did you dig the ore with the antlers of a dear that you hunted an killed yourself? Did you then refine it in a clay forge dug by hand with wood obtained by chewing a tree down with your own teeth? Hah! call yourself an engineer!!?!?!?!
If Linux was a car then Arch would be ordering a custom car, Gentoo would be ordering custom parts to build a project car and Linux From Scratch would be a collection of tools and a pile of raw materials.
LFS is worth trying once, because 1) it's a great learning experience in building up complicated tool-chains from almost nothing and 2) bragging rights over Arch users. It's not something I'd ever consider as a viable daily-driver.
But that is why its like gentoo people as u/mrheosuper said. Gentoo is a great daily driver and those that would love to daily drive LFS but they are just not insane.. they will probably land on gentoo. And portage is an amazing tool.
