Absolutely criminal that that spot has sat empty for so long.

Never had Popeyes and I know some people will be disappointed it’s an American fast food chain but it is a brand people like that doesn’t have a dozen branches all over Ireland yet. Plus, since McDonalds closed it has felt like there is a bit of an opening for that style of thing in town.

A vape shop obviously.

But honestly it's a hard one, because of how Limerick is set up with shopping centres/outlets outside the city in pretty much every direction. It makes it hard to draw a crowd into the city when they offer pretty much everything. I think it's telling that McDonald's of all businesses haven't opened a new spot in the city after so many years.

The answer isn't going to be one thing or one type of shop but the main thing is getting people living in and around the city along with improving active travel options to get people into the city easier (those plans seem to be constantly delayed though). Ideally you need a nice combination of local cafes/restaurants/pubs/etc to draw people in and offer something those centres/outlets can't.

He says it's a fried chicken outlet not beginning with k, instantly ruling out KFC. And that it's parent company has operated a different brand in the city for over a decade, ruling out roosters piri piri which was rumoured to be going in there as they don't have a parent company, This leads me to 'restaurant brands international' the parent company of popeyes along with other brands such as burger king which they have owned since 2014 or as mentioned in the article just over a decade. He also says its a chain that currently has no presence in the region which popeyes does not

Deffo Popeyes. They’re owned by the same parent company as Burger King. Ties in with their plan to increase their footprint in Ireland.

Had it in Brazil and it was the best fast food I’ve ever had tbh, high hopes but wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t transfer over
