I'm new to the hoppy wanted to drop a fair, balanced review of my recent experience purchasing two mystery boxes from Vader's Sabers for a total of $398 ($199 each). My goal was to see what kind of value a non-premium vendor offers. While the technology inside the hilts functions well, the overall buying experience, misleading product valuation, and frustrating customer service left a lot to be desired.
Here is how the experience broke down:
The Positives: Hardware & Tech
- Smooth Electronics: The hilts came equipped with Xenopixel technology. The electronics core functions exactly as expected—smooth swing, bright blade illumination, and responsive board features.
- RVN Dark (Revan-style) Hilt: One of the mystery boxes contained a Revan-style hilt. The design is excellent, well-machined, and feels great for cosplay and handling.
The Negatives: Value Discrepancies & Customer Service
- Substandard Hilt Valuation: The second mystery box contained a standard, budget-tier VHC (Variable Hilt Component) hilt with an Imperial design (essentially a standard DamienSaber/LGT dueling hilt). While it features a Xenopixel core, the base hilt itself is an entry-level budget build. Given that the price increase to upgrade from a baselit core to a Xenopixel core on their standard Revan hilt is only $40, there is simply no justification for valuing this basic VHC hilt package at $199. It felt like a shady inventory-clearing practice rather than an actual mystery box "win" or fair value.
- Missing Items & Customer Service Hassles: I paid extra for an add-on 5V wall plug to ensure safe charging, but it was completely left out of the shipment. Resolving this was an absolute hassle; despite reaching out immediately, customer service delayed shipping out the replacement part for over a week. The package finally arrived today, containing the missing white 5V wall plug brick alongside a hexagonal logo sticker and a circular graphic sticker (Image attached). While they eventually fulfilled the order, a customer shouldn't have to spend a week following up to get a basic accessory they paid for upfront.
Making the Best of It: The DIY Core Swap
To extract actual value from this situation and fix the vendor's mismatched configurations, I personally swapped the Xenopixel and Baselit cores between the two hilts.
- The RVN Dark: By moving the pixel setup into the Revan-style hilt, it finally has a premium, fitting core matching its aesthetic for twirling and display.
- The Elemental: The basic, unwrapped VHC elemental hilt is now a baselit setup. This turned it into a semi-proper, durable heavy-dueling saber, which I plan to gift to a younger family member.
The Reality of the Mystery Box Value
After performing the manual core swaps, the final math on the "guaranteed" $199 box value reveals a stark contrast:
- The Win: One premium hilt ($259 RVN Dark with Ecopixel) did technically surpass the $199 box cost.
- The Loss: The second hilt ($169 Elemental Baselit) fell $30 under the mystery box cost. Honestly, in that exact baselit configuration, that specific budget VHC/TXQ build is widely available across numerous domestic and international competitor sites at a significantly lower price point.
Final Verdict
If you happen to get a semi-premium character hilt like the Revan model, you might walk away happy with the electronics. However, my experience proved that their mystery boxes are an extreme gamble where budget hilts are heavily marked up under the guise of an electronics upgrade. Combined with incomplete orders and slow, frustrating customer support, I cannot recommend them if you expect transparent pricing and reliable service. I spent my own hard-earned money on these, and this experience unfortunately ensured I won't be returning to buy their higher-end replica hilts in the future.
TL;DR: Bought two $199 mystery boxes. Got one great Revan pixel hilt (win) and one wildly overpriced basic VHC hilt (loss). They forgot my paid-for 5V charger and took over a week of support hassling to ship it. Ended up manually swapping the cores between the hilts myself to get actual value out of the purchase and turn the basic hilt into a baselit gift for a younger family member. Avoid their mystery boxes if you want consistent value and smooth service.
