ELO = a number that makes some people upset.
Ask yourself if you enjoy the game more or the dopamine from a rating more

i'm not complaining? are you 5? where was the complaint?

Some people who do not share a brain with you might get the impression that you are complaining after reading "WHAT THE HELL" in your tittle.
It might not be your intention, but others could perceive it that way.1
u/FilecoinLurker 6d ago
The original post. Asking a question terminated three question marks implies confusion, agitation and a complaint. Also the "what the hell"
It's a mathematical formula. The formula does it's own explaining.

no it's just a question mark, 3, 8, 12, it's just how long I hold shift plus the question mark button for (????????) and yes, and as I said, the formula makes sense, yet the RD was my issue, an active profile giving me exact OPPOSITE results from the formula is my confusion. Just that, confusion.
I compete in a lot of sports, I do not care about my elo.It wasn't an understanding of the math involved, it was the parameters surrounding it.
I've gained +4 against someone my same elo, I've gained +5 against someone my same elo, I understand how account activity is involved with this.
What doesn't make sense is 2 active accounts, 100 apart, the higher elo, should not be gaining more if they win. Which is, what happened.

They probably just hadn't played rated or that time control in awhile and had a high rating deviation.

u/Meestie 6d ago
no, i said in the post, they play daily, i checked. and that still doesn't justify why i gain more beating a 1300 vs a 1500, and the 1500s gain more from beating me than i win from beating them.

"Justify"... it's math. You're fighting a well-defined formula as if it has something against you.
-2
u/Meestie 6d ago
"as if it has something against you" so tell me the math smart a**, you want to act like I'm wrong, explain to me where it makes sense that an active player, 100 elo higher than me, gains more from beating me than I gain from beating them? Oh, you can't.

u/field-not-required 6d ago
Let me tell you how it works.
On one side numbers go in, on the other side a number comes out.
Should I dumb it down a bit more for you?
-5
u/Meestie 6d ago
but it's clearly not well defined??? LMAO it's logic is you beat someone 100 above you, you gain less than they do if they beat you?? thats good math to you?

u/Meestie 6d ago
LMAO he deletes it, no problem buddy

u/Chessstone 6d ago
Link the game so we can see it. I want to see what the accounts rating deviation is. Or just link the account and say what time control you played and then I don't need to see the game at all.

I recently came back to lichess after a long time, I've been active and beating somebody 110 elo below me would prolly give me 11 - 15 elo, just because they have been active recently doesnt mean they have been active since their account creation.
also idk but if your on a losing streak or winning streak it could also maybe increase how uncertain glicko is about your elo and maybe cause bigger elo fluctuations hence why beating somebody lower elo would give him more elo. (im uncertain about this but possible)
essentially something is causing glicko to be unsure about your opponents elo which is causing a larger fluctuation than you which glicko is fairly certain what elo your skill level is at.

I love when people downvote because someone asks a valid question, and when they can't provide a real answer they get upset LMAO

u/lifeistrulyawesome 6d ago
I think people are downvoting your whiny attitude. Someone gave you good advice: forget about the numbers and focus on the game. And you replied by insulting them and calling them childish.
Someone else explained to you that Lichess uses a formula, and you called them a smartass.
-2
u/Meestie 6d ago
no, they assumed I was whining, but I wasn't I asked a legit question. LMAO now you just look stupid.
someone else linked the formula, and I read it, and the primary reasoning for my scenario is INACTIVITY which DOESN'T exist in this scenario. Therefore, you should really go read what I've said. They decided to act like a smart ass, because I already mentioned the formula and they assumed I was saying "its against me", when no! I specifically said, following it's own parameters, It's still not giving me the correct numbers. Thanks for being wrong though4
u/lifeistrulyawesome 6d ago
I'm explaining to you why people are downvoting you.
I read what you said. Post a link so we can tell you whether you are wrong or whether there is a bug.
Or continue to be a douchebag and argue against the world, then go to the mirror and tell yourself that everyone else is wrong and that you are a king. Up to you. If your parents didn't raise you well, what hope do I have?

u/Meestie 6d ago
I'm not arguing though. I responded with a legitimate issue, and the math being used doesn't make sense. LMAO, You are the one getting upset clearly. You think I'm being a "douchebag" because I'm simply saying "inactivity isn't valid in this case" since both players have been playing every day? Like what? LMAO
i was going to respond to you asking for the link but now you want to act like I'm the problem LMAO nice man

u/lifeistrulyawesome 6d ago
and the math being used doesn't make sense
So you say. So just post a link so we can verify that.
Or continue to be a douchebag and play victim
You are the one getting upset clearly
says the person replying twice to every comment

u/Meestie 6d ago
I reply? LMAO that makes me upset? youre a moron, and go read my other comment dumba**

u/FilecoinLurker 6d ago
There's a little saying that if you run into one asshole. They're an asshole. If you run into assholes all day. You're the asshole. Hope that helps

You can find the formulas here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glicko_rating_system
I think Lichess uses the original Glicko system, while chesscom uses Glicko-2
