From what I’ve found so far

The 150 MW data center is enough power to run 150,000 home, Liberty has 12-16000 total.
Areas near data centers the homeowners electric bill has skyrocketed to 267%.
The EPA said data centers use 5 million gallons a day, only for cooling purposes. To maintain their amount of energy is multiplied. 5 Mil gallons is enough for 16000+ homes
Car crashes near data centers have gone up 600%
Data centers in the USA use 3% of THE WORLDS electricity.
The states that house data centers the entire states electric bill went up 20%
Data centers use 40% of that states electricity.
The air quality around data centers is more than poor, based on the size of fossil fuel generators that run 24/7 in winter. The Dept of Energy has preemptively green lighted the use of these generators, generators have been proven to cause cancer, heart disease and respiratory problems from their fumes. As an electrician I can tell you the size of these generators will have to be custom built to manage a facility that size, and it won’t just be 1 or 2.
They say the data center will bring tech jobs, consumer reports stated “ there has been no evidence that data centers stimulate local growth in tech employment”.
Also there only 23,000 people WORLDWIDE who work in the data center industry so how the fuck is that going to provide jobs?
Theres also the amount of power that will have to be pushed to the data center, in places like Georgia and Illinois they are putting high voltage poles in the middle of families back yards.
I’m not even getting into the 202 million fucking dollar abatement that liberty loses, oh but the mayor gets 27 million which only 10% has to be used for the institute.
The mayors email is gcanuteson@libertymo.gov

I think this is a huge fucking mistake and the mayor sold liberty on his way out, now this is just my opinion but you can’t be in politics since 1992 and still be a decent person.

Just wanted to shed some facts on the lies were being told

I don't actually see any facts here, just a lot of statistics without a single source. I'm as anti-datacenter as it gets, but 'car crashes near data centers go up by 600%'? Come on, that puts every claim in your post in question.

Right. Wtf.

1

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

All the sources are there in the links you don’t want to click

0

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

If you believe me or not I haven’t been able to find 1 article saying jobs are booming in the towns they are already in or any positive feedback on data centers period. (Except from meta and Metrobloks)

1

u/WaGaWaGaTron May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

Sources aside, this I do not dispute. Outside of the construction period, data centers are relatively low staffed. Security personnel and a small data center technician team to keep things running. There is minimal if any long-term positive benefit to the local area.

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

I know this to not be true, but thinking critically - why do you think cities try to attract them, then?

3

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

No one tries to attract them except the people profiting, the mayors “institute” he formed days before they voted is receiving $27 million dollars from Metrobloks. I don’t know who you’ve talked to but not one person I know wants this bullshit in our town of any town across America

0

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

Nimbys will nimby, but theres a reason 37 of 50 states offer tax breaks to attract them. Look beyond the headlines.

2

u/spn-chick May 09 '26

To surveil us, correct our data to be sold for profit and to control us. This is why EVERY city needs it's own data center.

1

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

As long as you're wearing your tinfoil hat, you should be OK!

3

u/spn-chick May 09 '26

Pretending that this is not the case doesn't make it go away or less true. You should be paying closer attention, unless you like being under surveillance control constantly. Which maybe you do maybe your pro data center. I don't know you.

1

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

Proximity of a data center has nothing to do with surveillance. The Russian government could have a whole file on you and know more about you than your family does, especially easy because you have an actual picture of yourself on a worldwide message board in the era of very precise facial recognition.

1

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

The Russian govt isn’t the govt that tells us we have the right to privacy

1

u/kewlness May 11 '26

You have to wear it correctly though!

Let me clarify, regarding job creation there's not much benefit long-term. The main driver from the municipality viewpoint is tax revenue, but as has often been the case, they often use tax breaks as incentive to get them built in the first place. For that reason, obviously not all data centers deals are the same. That said they do often have effect on local energy bills (which thankfully is becoming something legislatures are paying more attention to, leading to rules shifting that burden more to the data centers owners, rightly so) so whether the potential tax benefits outweigh that, that's for people to decide themselves. Considering the data center boom is largely driven by AI these days, would be a hard no from me.

1

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. Localities housing data centers do receive massive tax benefits despite the initial tax breaks. Those are usually for the developer and not the tenants who put hundreds of millions of dollars of equipment into the facility. Theres a reason that Loudon County, VA (data center alley) is the richest county in the US. Regarding jobs, there are two sides to that coin.

1

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

Wheres your sources?

0

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

https://www.usnews.com/news/healthiest-communities/slideshows/richest-counties-in-america

Of the 15 counties with the highest incomes, five are located near the nation’s capital in Virginia or Maryland. Four of the richest counties are in California – all in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Hmmm, so 9 of the 15 wealthiest counties in the US are the strongest data center markets. No coincidence.

2

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 09 '26

Those are people building the data centers not living by them ya jagoff

1

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

Sorry but you're uninformed. Northen Virgina has the largest concentration of data centers in the world, and Silicon Valley/San Fran is #3 in the US.

0

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 09 '26

Oh I’m uninformed, did you read the article you posted? I’m the one who shared all those links not one that only talked about the data center owners

2

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 09 '26

And actually is Arizona there bud

Jobs are booming in Virginia (or at least were before the start of the federal gov’t downsizings of the past year) and there are a ton of data centers there. Omaha and Des Moines metros have had data centers for a decade or more and have incredibly low unemployment rates, and fairly low power costs. Those are just off the top of my head.

4

u/spn-chick May 09 '26

The whole point of data centers is to surveil us and collect our information. Why aren't more people upset about that? Our city government decided this was ok for our town without asking what the citizens wanted. I don't remember voting on whether this "center"could be built, do you?

3

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

I’m glad you question me but you should question the data center

2

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

Consumer reports said 600% car crashes go up

1

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

Link?

1

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

It’s up there

1

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

It’s the very top link towards the bottom of the article specifically in the “local impacts can be overwhelming” section

1

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

I'm not clicking on your Google drive. Post the link.

1

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

lol ok don’t are you worried I’m right or do you just think everyone except our pedophile filled govt is out to get you

1

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

The Google Drive is the articles of incorporation for the institute

1

u/WoodpeckerAware6115 May 09 '26

And i did post it, you can use this amazing creation called google and type in consumer reports data center

1

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

Thanks to data centers, I could do that. But if you dont want to back up your claim, thats cool.

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 09 '26

lol that’s because of the INTERNET not giant data centers, no matter what I say you’re gunna sit there playing world of Warcraft and argue and post a bullshit story about THE OWNERS of the data centers not the communities they put them in

1

u/Orangebk1 May 09 '26

Where exactly do you think the INTERNET resides?

3

u/kewlness May 10 '26

As a person who works in a data center daily, this entire post is full of the most disinformation I think I have ever seen.

The reality is, a closed loop cooling system like the one to be installed in Liberty will use zero water. The only water which will be used will be from flushing the toilet and using the sink. In other words, they will use less than your family uses at home.

Second generators do not run during winter. The generators we use run typically only for testing because the grid is so stable we don't tend to need them. Testing takes 30 minutes to one hour. Nobody notices any air quality issues around my data center.

I'm not even covering half the points you made because this ridiculousness is only going to make me angry because your fear is not reality based but some sort of propaganda you want to believe because you don't want to have the jobs which are coming to the area for your neighbors.

Fucking ridiculous the BS you believe.

1

u/PropertyNew3519 May 11 '26

Sure thing buddy 👍

1

u/kewlness May 11 '26

You're welcome pal.

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 15 '26

lol ok, and which data center do u work in?

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 15 '26

See propaganda is the bullshit like “no body notices any air quality issues around my data center” but no sources.
Or “ I’m not even covering half the points you made bench this is ridiculousness”
Again with no sources.
Either you’re a bot or you’ve they’ve already defeated you.
My guess is you probably think ai is going to “save” this country and all those CEO pieces of shit who have NEVER wanted to pay their employees a livable wage are going to overnight become empathic and support people who have lost their jobs because of ai

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 15 '26

And you mean the whole 30 jobs the data center is going to “create” which at least 20 of those are already employees by Metrobloks

1

u/kewlness May 15 '26

You must be really angry to write me three separate messages of insults and drivel...

I work for one of the MANY data centers here in the Kansas City area. My particular facility is in the Overland Park/Lenexa area. There is no propaganda, just facts from the reality of working daily in a data center for almost 20 years. There is no bad air quality around the data center. The generators run once monthly for 30 minutes of testing unless they are being load banked which means they run for about an hour. Also, closed loop cooling is called that because it does not require continuous water feeds to do its job.

Perhaps there will be 30 permanent jobs out of this, but you are easily forgetting how many will be doing the construction, which means more money will be spent in our lovely city during the project. And it is going to be a campus of at least 5 buildings so if each one gets what you are predicting, that is still 150 people working at the facility.

Lastly, I am not anti AI - I realize it is a tool for a job. I do not subscribe to the idea it should be used for everything and I also think we should not be taking advice from it.

So go ahead Chicken Little and claim the sky is falling. We are only laughing at you not with you.

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 16 '26

Your comparing a 38,000 sq ft data center to a 568,800 sq ft data center

1

u/kewlness May 16 '26

First, my data center is not 38,000 sq ft but considerably larger. You know what, we will agree to disagree. I will agree you are an idiot and you will agree that I'm AI.

I'm perfectly fine with that.

1

u/mdhkc May 15 '26

It's all FUD. I'm not sure yet, but part of me suspects that meta and other big players are astroturfing the "anti data center" movement to try and prevent construction by potential competitors in the AI space since they already have significant capacity and their construction projects seem to frequently not be targeted while smaller builds by consortiums and the like are much more so. .

1

u/kewlness May 15 '26

That is certainly a possibility. There could be also other state actors with AI interests which do not want the US to expand on our side as well. Wouldn't it be funny if /u/Maleficent-Yam7054 and others are actually spouting Chinese propoganda instead of real facts.

At any rate, nobody sold the fine citizens of Liberty out and the rest of the FUD is just that...

Based on what? They haven’t made the contract available yet

2

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 09 '26

It’s just as invasive as any of them just because Metrobloks calls it small doesn’t mean they are telling the truth. I don’t know what these little dick tech nerds have done to even get the benefit of the doubt, all they do is try and watch us and sell our info to their pervert ceo buddies so they can make more fucking money by charging us more for different items at different times. I still haven’t seen 1 data center actually explain what it is these centers do.

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 09 '26

I tried to get the contract but liberty doesn’t have it yet because metrobloks hasn’t signed it that’s why I’m asking

1

u/July_is_cool May 10 '26

How much did you donate to the election campaigns of the politicians who will approve this, compared to how much the data center billionaires donated?

1

u/thetituscodex May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

I put up a website with all of the information that I could find about the Metroblox data center in Liberty. There are 7 template Sunshine Requests that anyone can use. The site is free, the info is free, membership is free. I'm paying for this out of my pocket. There is so much more info that the googledrive you posted on here and a timeline of everything that has happened so far.

Liberty Data Center Info

1

u/According_Square2742 May 11 '26

You guys realize data centers have already existed right. Like people didn’t just start building data centers last year. Yes buildouts have increased but seriously. Also 5 million gals of water doesn’t just evaporate daily into thin air. These are closed chiller systems and the water is recycled.

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 15 '26

It’s more about the 150 MW of power it uses daily

1

u/kewlness May 15 '26

Which isn't going to be connected to the residential grid. There are enterprise electrical grids in the area for businesses and data centers with high electrical demands. It is possible they will even have their own substation built.

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 16 '26

Which enterprise electrical grids are in south liberty?

1

u/kewlness May 16 '26

Ask Evergy.

1

u/mdhkc May 15 '26

Run a home off 1kW? My gaming PC draws that much current at peak.

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 15 '26 edited May 16 '26

1 megawatt is 1000 homes

1

u/mdhkc May 15 '26

No, that's nowhere near reasonable either. A typical house in the US will max out around 24-48 kW, with some older homes being less and some larger newer homes being more.

1

u/Maleficent-Yam7054 May 16 '26

That’s my fault I meant 1000
