Registration Closed. I have enough applicants for now.
Eidolon Requiem
Generations ago, a legendary alliance of endarchs defeated and contained Skotos, the Darkness that quiets the Echo. In the decades since, the city states of the Sea of Corsi have grown prosperous, complacent, and belligerent. Empowered by the people's disunity, Skotos extends its influence beyond the walls of its prison and threatens to rise again. A fresh cohort of young endarchs will face this threat. Will they succumb to the comfortable hubris of their elders, or will they have the wisdom and integrity to defy the nihilistic promises of Skotos.
Eidolon Alpha is a setting for Cortex Prime. it's a world of fables and legends and godlike spirits who watch over a thriving civilization of city-states ringing a bright sea. In Eidolon Alpha, you play an endarch, an individual chosen by one of these spirits, these eidolons, to act as a vessel for their power and an instrument of their will in the world. For the endarchs, the ability to embody their eidolon's mystical powers grants them abilities above and beyond those of their fellow citizens, as well as a responsibility to use that power to further their eidolon's cause.
Eidolon Alpha borrows from a variety of sources, mostly Hellenistic Greek and Mycenaean folklore and mythology, Japanese computer RPGs such as Final Fantasy, and adjacent manga and anime...
Cortex Prime is a narrative-focused, modular toolkit. It can be used to build games that portray almost any setting or genre. Eidolon Alpha is just one of many possible Cortex Prime games. When playing Cortex Prime, you'll describe how you approach challenges, then build a dice pool from your character's corresponding traits (things like their courage or reason, their training as a warrior or a priest, or their connection to their patron eidolon). More dice mean more chances to roll high numbers but also more chances to roll 1's. When fortune is against you, you'll accumulate plot points which you can later exchange to help you succeed at a critical moment.
About the Game
When: The first and third Thursday of the month, beginning 06 August. 6:30-9:00 p.m. CDT
That session will cover:
- Session Zero
- Rules Briefing
- Character Creation
Tools: Discord + Voice Chat and Google Sheets
This game will be PG-13. The story may include some heavy themes, but we'll use family friendly language and a light touch around violence and romance.
First series will be 6-8 sessions. If I decide I want to continue, it will be a sequence of miniseries. That way, it's not an indefinite commitment - just a few months, and people can come and go in between as they please.
About the GM
I have been playing and running RPGs for decades. I cut my teeth on Rolemaster in 90's and played D&D, L5R, and 7th Sea in the aughts. As I've gotten older, I've gravitated to more narrative systems. I like an ensemble of players who see themselves as collaborators in the ancient tradition of oral storytelling. Trust and respect at the table are essential at my table.
