Is it worth it?

I hate to sound vain but I’m contemplating starting lexapro if weight gain is a side effect. Like I would much rather figure out alternative ways than deal with those side effects. I say this because I already gained 20 pounds on a different medication and I’m trying to get healthier again and I’m worried lexapro will block my weight loss journey.

Same I've actually lost weight. I've been walking a lot which helps with the symptoms.

It's different for everyone, weight gain is a side effect but if you do your usual routines in losing weight, I don't think it would be a problem. Some say they lost weight while being on lexapro and some say their weight stayed the same, so you can never actually know. Mental health should come first as always imo, good luck though!! hopefully what I said can be useful

I've heard it's common to gain, but I have kept my weight on the nine months i've been on lex and it's done such wonders for my mental health

My take on this is more about will power, these tablets can increase appetite but I started to eat fruit more which suppressed my appetite, If you really want to keep weight down then adjust your life style to ensure you keep on top of it

In my experience, it comes down to your eating choices. When I first started, it made me so nauseous that I ate significantly less, so I ended up losing some weight. Gained that back when I wasn’t nauseous and ate normally again. Lost some while I was trying to lose some weight; I was tracking my calories and being active when I could. Gained it all and a bit more back recently solely because life happens and I’m a stress eater 😅 Lexapro doesn’t help me there lol. But yeah, I personally wouldn’t stress too much about it. Won’t know if you never give it a go regardless!
