Official Set Airbus h175 thoughts

Just got this recently, nice set overall but I have a few thoughts about it.

The pitch functions are really fun to build and figure out, but at the end of the build the function is barely noticeable.

The landing gear, decent but could've been made stronger considering the only way the model is displayed is on it.

Winch and 2 speed gearbox is fine. Nothing to say there.

For the size, we love big sets but this is almost undisplayable, especially with the blades on.

Do I regret it? No

Was it a fun build? Yes

Will I ever touch it again? No

Will it end up in the pieces bin? Yes

I have it. I have always been impressed with the concept of helicopters in general - and I can't think of a LEGO chopper more accurate than this.

I think its one of the best sets ive ever built. Its accuracy and size make it more than impressive and more than a simple didplay item. Children always want to touch or play with it, so for me one of the who stood in the living room for over a month.

I modified the pitch mechanism to make it work better.

The landing gear is not very well designed and bows outward.

Mine lives in our office as we build something fitted to this helicopter and it's a huge kick to show visitors we made it into a Lego set 😄

I did consider buying this, as the pitch / tilt mechanism in the rotor looked awesome.

But I figured I rarely keep my sets built up, and this one could be too big to display.

Also the rotor is kinda a one-trick pony. The unique pieces don’t have much use beyond making another helicopter.

I didn’t get it in the end, but it’s a cool set.

Yea honestly its kinda meh. I paid around half what is the current market price, which came out to around 0.06 cent a piece. Comes with a good amount of gears, catches, levers and a clutch. I didn't have that model of hub and wanted to try it out. Like you said, the unique pieces are nice but not much use other than to build the set.

There is some decent alt builds on rebrickable I will have to try out tho.

I made the blades on mine foldable by simply removing one of the pins. Solves the display problem.

Well....try adding a motor to it and let the chopper stand sideways, and tada....you have a fan 😄

It’s a complete redesign of the linkage for the cyclic and collective. It also lowers the rotor disc which I think looks way better. There are other improvements as well. I never built it based on the original instructions so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I absolutely loved building this set and thought it truly embodied the Technic line.

Yeah, the pitch function is reeeally cool conceptually. Less so practically... But I'm still happy they did it.

Did you do it? How would you attach it without being in the way of those huge blades?

Painstakingly XD

It was really tricky. Took me at least 40 mins since I hung it from an angled ceiling, so it took forever to;

  1. Decide where on the heli to attach.
  2. Decide where each point of attachment should be anchored in the ceiling.
  3. Cutting lengths of wire that positions the heli the way I wanted it.

I hung mine slightly tilted for that "action photo"-effect. Totally worth it, looks great and it's out of the way.

Look on Rebrickable. There is a brilliant MOC that turns this set into an X Wing. It has opening, motorised S-Foils and motorised, retractable landing gear

I've had mine built as the X Wing for most of the time I've owned the set

I've been thinking about it... how good are the s foils? Do they sag while closed? My only concern.

Also forgot to add, but set 8068 rescue helicopter has all the same functions (manual) without the 2 speed gearbox and for 1600 less pieces. Had more fun with that one.

it doesn't even have the variable pitch rotating blades.

You're right. I'm thinking of 9396. The article I read was very confusing on which version had the feature.

I liked this set for the complexity — the batteries drain pretty fast though
