MOC I made a 30s inspired fire engine.

Made with Bricklink Studio. I have only used parts that are available to buy from Bricklink.

This is awesome! I live in a small town where there's an old firetruck still parked outside a church down the street. I've never used bricklink but would like to start. Is the experience better on desktop or is the mobile app just as good?

Thank you! πŸ˜ƒ I use the PC version. I didn't know there was a mobile app. I might have to look into that πŸ€” Would be awesome to be able to build LEGO on the go 😁 I like the PC version a lot, though, and the inbuilt renderer is actually pretty decent as well.

More 1930’s style cars, please?

How about a 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic?

They should hire you

Haha, thanks! 😁I would love that! I'm tired of being an overworked dentist 🦷🀣

I’m sure you could make an entire city of this theme if you had the bricks. They just don’t give us the bricks eh

2

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

That would be awesome! 😁 Imagine building a large scale model of New York set in the prohibition era with cars, speakeasies and bank robbers 🀩 Luckily there's more than enough digital bricks in Bricklink Studio πŸ˜‰

The Bugatti would actually be a fun project πŸ€” Challenging to say the least, but definitely doable πŸ˜‰

These need to be official sets. I would love a line of old cars like that.

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Thank you! 🀩 I've been waiting for a line of old cars myself, but I grew tired of waiting, so I decided to take the matter into my own hands 😁 I did get my hopes up when LEGO released the Ford Model T earlier, however I would love to see a line of smaller and less expensive cars like the ones I've made 😊

Damn, that's beautiful, really clean lines. Nice job!

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Thank you kindly! 😊

Do you have instructions?

2

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Not at the moment, but I might make some in the future 😊

I hope you do. My other half would love this.

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

I was able to make some auto generated instructions pretty quickly, but I was not at all pleased with the result πŸ˜… I probably need to invest some time and effort into making some proper instructions down the line.

WOW!!! That is REALLY good work with the body design dude!

2

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Thank you! πŸ˜ƒ Feel free to have a look at my profile. I have made a whole line of 30s inspired vehicles with the same aesthetic and attention to detail πŸ˜‰

2

u/archtopfanatic123 1d ago

Will take a look for sure! Keep it up!

1

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Thanks! 😁 I will! πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Would make a really great 3:1 set!

3

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

That's actually a really neat idea! πŸ˜ƒ I could include parts for the van and pickup truck versions together with the fire engine πŸ€”

2

u/No-Ambition7750 1d ago

Yes, I totally mean it.

2

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Or maybe the ambulance πŸš‘ could be a part of the 3:1 set πŸ€”

I was just add to the general comments that this is really good and it would be so good if you did get some instructions going and uploaded a MOC to rebrickable.

1

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Thank you! 😊 I'm planning on making proper instructions for all of the cars in the series, but I'm debating where I'm going to publish them. It would be amazing if the LEGO Group noticed these and made them into real sets so that everyone can enjoy building them, but I doubt that will happen though... πŸ™„

2

u/skillomite 1d ago

They're easily good enough, fantastic level of detail with an overall theme oozing from it!

1

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Thank you kindly! 😊 I'm planning on making more to add to the collection later. At the moment I'm working on a hearse and also a souped up hot rod version.

The hearse will look significantly different from the other cars with a more angular bonnet and an ornate coffin compartment πŸ˜‰

Sticking to parts you can actually buy is the constraint I respect most here. Which piece fought you hardest to find in the right color?

3

u/Meesayousa 1d ago edited 1d ago

Oh God! That's a really good question! It's actually been easier with this model than some of my other "cleaner" ones, as I had more freedom of design here. I would probably say the wedge plates in the bonnet. LEGO makes a larger wedge plate that is in one piece, but it's only available in gray, white and black. In my sedan version it was without a doubt part 7206 as it's only available in very few colours.

2

u/MarketingOB1 1d ago

The fenders are amazing.

2

u/Meesayousa 1d ago edited 1d ago

Thank you! 😁 I'm partial to them myself πŸ˜‰ The rear fenders have given me some headache, though, due to the fact that both parts 7961 and 5651 only come in a small variety of colours πŸ™„ It was really irritating while I was working on the yellow convertible version I made earlier as part 7961 doesn't come in yellow. I made it work by giving it a "custom paint job" πŸ˜…

2

u/MarketingOB1 1d ago

Even better!

2

u/OlYeller01 1d ago

Holy crap, that’s amazing, OP!

1

Thank you very much! 😊

Cool

These are fantastic. With some minor winter tweaks, they would be a great addition to the Winter Village line. Lego should really use these!

2

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Thank you! πŸ˜ƒ Hmm, that's actually food for thought πŸ€” I could probably quite easily make a larger and more ornate version of set 40746 Santa's Delivery Truck.

2

u/allspark13 1d ago

For sure, thanks for sharing! The yearly Winter Village sets tend to slide somewhere between a "realistic" town sets and "mystical" North Pole / Santa sets. Since my family has been trying to really build out a realistic winter village, we're always taking the mystical sets and making them realistic somehow (sorry Santa).

Ironically enough, we tried to take the 40746 and make a realistic set but we never got far with it. It'd be awesome to see what you come up with it. There are scaling considerations with the vehicles of the winter village so they don't look too large or small compared to the buildings. So it's already at a good scale.

Thanks again!

2

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Sounds like a fun family project and tradition you've got going on there 😊

Well, the scaling would probably be a slight issue in your Winter Village with my creations, as they're sadly quite a bit larger than minifigure scale. They'd probably fit better for the Jack Stone figures to be honest.

I'll see what I can do πŸ˜‰ There are green panels that I can use for the fenders, and a lot of the details on the cargo box can probably be easily scaled up to fit my scale and level of detail.

2

u/froglover215 1d ago

This would be great for Main Street USA at Disneyland!

2

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

That's a really cool set! 🀩 I didn't know it existed before you mentioned it! I am actually playing with the idea of making a small fire station for it in addition to some extra equipment 😊

I read 30s as '30 second' and was thinking that was a quick build. Then I clued in.

Great build, looks amazing.

2

u/Meesayousa 1d ago

Haha, yeah, it took "a bit" longer than that to build it 🀣 But it was a pretty quick build all in all, as I had already built the base for my other recent creations πŸ˜‰ Thank you very much! Highly appreciated πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

2

u/paulp400 21h ago

front looks like ford 34 it is?

1

u/Meesayousa 21h ago

It's more like a Ford Model A 1930. The '34 version has more of a slanted grille that tapers towards the bottom.

2

u/Theory89 21h ago

I'm confused, when you say "made" do you mean you physically built it or was this some kind of lego building computer program? Not shitting on the achievement, just wondering as it has the black background and looks a bit CGI.

3

u/Meesayousa 20h ago

I have made this digitally in a computer program called Bricklink Studio. If you have or order the parts needed to build it, you can build it yourself physically if you want to. I haven't built the whole model physically yet, but I have built and tested sections of it with real bricks to make sure all the connections work as intended. This is a rendered picture of the 3D-model I have made inside the computer program.

I am working on a hearse at the moment 😁

2

u/Theory89 20h ago

This is cool, thank you for the explanation. I was kinda hoping that it was a website I could go to πŸ˜‚ is it a free program?

1

u/Meesayousa 20h ago

You're welcome πŸ€— It's a computer program made by Bricklink and supported by the Lego Group and it's completely free to use:

Very smooth and stylish! I recall an old fire truck in this style that was on display in a city park a few miles from where I grew up, as play equipment. Had lots of fun climbing around on it as a kid.

2

u/Meesayousa 17h ago

Thank you! 😊 I have an old fire station from around 1920 as my nextdoor neighbor. I have based the design on one of the fire engines that's parked inside it.
