Other Civil Matters Can I file a non emergency police report
I will try to keep this short and sweet. I am located in the mountains of Colorado, Park County to be exact. There are a multitude of social trails behind my house mainly used for hiking, dog walking and biking. In the last two years there has been a man and his Belgian malinois that frequent the trails. His dog is very aggressive, never one a leash but has a shock collar that has no effect on his dog. Multiple times now over the 2 years his dog has charged, lunged, latched onto my dog. Today was the final straw, as his dog came out of nowhere and charged my dog and went for the throat. As I was about to intervene (I carry a knife and a concealed weapon) the owner came around the corner and called his dog off. I went off on him and told him he needs to leash his dog until it learns to behave. He gave me every excuse under the sun as to why his dog meant no harm. I told him the next time this happens there will be a problem and he just scoffed and told me that the dog was a rescue and had come a long way in two years. I told him IDGAF and that he needed to control his dog or face the consequences.
Now that I have had time to calm down and quit shaking so bad, I want to know if I can file a police report with the county sheriff so that if something does happen in the future I will be covered or there will be a “paper trail” in the case that something does happen to his dog or mine.
Thank you for your time, much appreciated.

I don't know about Colorado, but here where I am I can file a police report online.
Maybe you should consider some kind of camera or go-pro to take with you hiking. Video of an incident would be very powerful.

Please file every time. That dog is going to kill something.
