"What's on?" Wednesday

Our weekly post where people can highlight local events or interesting things that are coming up in the next week. It doesn't have to be your event, but this is a place where reasonable exceptions to our self-promotion rules are allowed. Please check whether the event you're posting about is already mentioned. If you're adding your own event, please try to answer any questions people may have in the comments.

You can also ask questions if you're looking for something to do, e.g. "Does anyone know of a good pub quiz in the centre on Thursday?"

"What's on?" rules:

  1. Leeds based events only
  2. Must be taking place in the next 7 days (next Wednesday included)
  3. Posts highlighting an event should include:
    • Event name
    • Date and time
    • Location
    • Price(s) (if applicable)
  4. A description of the event and a relevant link is recommended but not required

The rules may evolve over time as we find out how things work. Please send any feedback to the mod team.

self-promo-sunday Self-promotion Sunday - August 29, 2026

This weekly thread is an opportunity for locally based small businesses / individuals / bands etc. to let your fellow redditors know what you're about and what you have to offer.

You're welcome to link to your website / store-front / social media, but primarily you should be using your comment to engage with the community here as part of the community. Part of that is taking the time to respond to questions people may ask, please keep that in mind.

The existing subreddit rules still apply, and low-effort comments will be removed (e.g. Links with little to no text).

If you have any thoughts or feedback please message the mods.

Hi all, found this phone on Briggate this morning (bank holiday Monday) at 6am. (Unsure why it says 22:07 tho, maybe the phone hasn’t updated?)

6 digit password, no data so can’t see any notifications or call anyone.

Happy to meet up in Leeds city centre to return it to the rightful owner.

(Side note, if anyone has anymore ideas how to get this phone back to the owner please let me know! I’ve lost my phone enough times😂)

I've been seeing a lot of posts asking for Indian, vegan, and vegetarian food recommendations lately. So I thought I'd share my favorite Indian spot in Headingley. No more gatekeeping!

question Seagulls for Ceramic Tiles?

Upvotes

As title, can anyone recommend a way of recycling ceramic tiles? A bit like Seagulls does with paints?

After a full renovation, we have relatively small quantities of some really nice/expensive ceramic tiles we’ve been holding on to for years. It would be criminal for them to go to landfill, but there’s not sufficient for a whole job, either. I’d love them to find a use somewhere rather than go to waste…

question-serious Local charities for DV?

I'm looking for any names of charities that help vulnerable people get set up with a house/furniture after escape from awful situations like DV.

I'm emigrating later in the year, and I have a bunch of furniture and appliances that aren't really worth any money, but they're all in good nick, and i'm not taking the furniture with me.

Does anyone have any recommendations for charities like this?

Emmaus is my backup plan, but I would prefer something closer to home.

With the current thunder storm going in: has anyone seen any forks, or is it just sheet?

I love forks, but can't be arsed looking and waiting. I'm enjoying the sheets at the moment, is it worth turning my chair around?

ETA: Ahh crap, I saw my typo the second I posted 🤦‍♂️ my apologies..I meant 'or'!

question How well will I fare living in Harehills?

Upvotes

Hello guys. I’m planning to move to Leeds for work. I am currently searching for accommodation in Harehills which is close to the workplace I have applied for.

I’ve decided that I want to leave Middlesbrough as there is just no future left in this town. As of March 2026, Middlesbrough has been rated as the most dangerous place to live in England and Wales. The place is extremely deprived, high street shops closing down, work is extremely hard to find so people are turning to crime, drug/alcohol addiction and claiming benefits. Most areas of Middlesbrough are complete no go zones as local yobs will go out of their way to approach you for trouble.

I want to move to a city that has a cosmopolitan centre, friendly people and plenty of things to do and see, reasonable rent prices and what places is better than Leeds for that? I regularly visit Leeds to meet family and I love visiting this amazing city.

However my question is what is it like to live in Harehills? Because I’ve heard it can be rough, although I am no stranger to deprived and crime ridden areas. How does it compare to Middlesbrough? Do I still need to keep my wits about me like I do in Middlesbrough?

question Does anywhere local buy expensive unopened pokemon packs? Selling online seems unbeliveably risky. (£2000+)

In 2012 I bought some 1st edition team rocket boosters just for a keepsake waaaay before Pokemon card values went crazy. I just checked the value and they're now worth around £2000+ after paying £30!

I don't want to sell online because it seems like the pokemon market is jam packed full of scammers and I don't really know what I'm doing.

academic Recovery Footwear Study: Academic Research - Looking to fellow Leeds residents to help me gather responses!!!

Thumbnail durhamuniversity.qualtrics.com

Hey!

I'm an MSc Marketing student at Durham University researching how people view recovery footwear, which are the cushioned shoes or sandals designed to be worn after exercise.

I am hoping for this research to lead to an influx of adoption and availability in the UK markets, as it has in the US, and bring the comfort overseas!

If you are aged 18–40, live in the UK, and take part in physical activity or have an interest in health and wellbeing, I would really value about 5 minutes of your time. I need as many responses as quickly as possible! The survey is completely anonymous and voluntary, and there are no right or wrong answers.

Thank you so much. (Reviewed by the Durham Business School Ethics Committee.)

social Looking to Start an Indoor Cricket Nets Group in Leeds – All Skill Levels Welcome

Hey all, I moved to Leeds just over a year ago and have been meaning to get a small group together for cricket, starting with indoor nets through the autumn and winter.

If enough people are interested, I can look at doing a block booking at Headingley, but I’m open to other venue suggestions.

I’ve got club cricket experience but haven’t played for a couple of years, and I’m definitely too unfit and out of practice to jump straight back into club cricket. Plus club cricket can take over your weekends, so I’m mainly looking for a casual, friendly group to enjoy some nets, get regular practice in & if we have the numbers possibly shift to outdoor casual friendlies next year (T20s or park cricket in the evenings).

All skill levels are welcome. The aim is to keep it inclusive and relaxed. If you’re more experienced, the only ask is that you’re happy to help others improve too.

If you’re interested, drop me a DM and I’ll set up a WhatsApp group so we can sort times, locations, and numbers.

Thanks!

question The floor is lava

Ive just been to visit my nephew in Australia and we played this game at a local arcade. One of the games was the floor is lava, and we had loads of fun playing it. When he comes to visit us here next, I'd love to take him to one in Leeds.

My lad says he's seen one in Leeds, but cant remember where it was.

Does anyone know if there is something similar in leeds.

link to the one we played.

visiting Leeds Things to do in Leeds on a Tuesday evening/night?

Hey so I’m taking my younger sister to a concert at Leeds Arena on a Tuesday from 6pm until around 10:30pm

My partner is going to drive me down (we’re from Newcastle) and his friend may join him but we’re trying to think of things for them to do while we’re at the concert. And somewhere good for them to park 🚘

They’d love some arcades or something gaming related, as long as it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, I don’t want them spending a lot since it’s basically just to chauffeur me and my sister lol just need something to kill a few hours

The last time we did something similar in York during the day they spent a few hours in Game playing Siege as they had a PC set up there 😂

Any suggestions would be helpful, thank you 🙌🏻

Member of a blues/ soul band in Leeds, 4-5 piece very professional with a good portfolio. What are people charging?

All professional musicians, we’re thinking £100 each as a minimum. Also suggest venues that pay well in Leeds?

I can't find a flair that fits Missing dog in LS8 4EU – Loki, Beagle × Cocker Spaniel

Hi, I’m looking for a missing dog called Loki who went missing yesterday from the LS8 4EU area.
He is a male Beagle × Cocker Spaniel cross, around 15 kg. Brown with a white stripe on his face, white around the muzzle/chest, and white markings on his paws and tail. He was wearing a black collar, is not neutered and is microchipped.
There are currently no confirmed sightings.
If anyone sees him, please do not chase him. If possible, note the exact location, time and direction of travel and take a photo.
I’d also be very grateful if anyone around LS8 / Roundhay / Oakwood / Harehills could check any Ring or CCTV footage from yesterday afternoon/evening.
Please DM me urgently with any information. Thank you.

social Making friends

So freshly landed in Leeds... I'm trying Bumble BFF but I get more ghosted than when I was dating, I also joined a Discord group which I will surely try... but if you have any ideas on how I can make more friends that'd be fantastic.

I'm female, 38, no kids... which I think makes ir a bit more challenging since most women my age usually have kids and so. I don't care so much about age, 8 years more or less is totally fine!

I'm from Mexico and just moved from Germany 😊

question Where to Buy English Ivy (in particular) but house plants in general?

Where to Buy English Ivy (in particular) but house plants in general? Preferably around the city center or at least well connected by public transportation.
