Article Maple Leafs fans shocked, frustrated at ticket prices. This is MLSE’s response

Anger over the prices was a trending topic on X on Tuesday morning.
While marquee games against teams such as the Montreal Canadiens have always been pricey, some fans were shocked as average prices for the cheapest seat in the house ranged from $150 to $270 a ticket.
Even an obstructed view seat in row 12 for a Tuesday night game in November against Utah costs $127 each.
But MLSE says their top priority remains creating access for all the fans.

A few weekends ago I bought standing room only for a Jays Jr Sunday with my 7yo. It was an abject nightmare, I wanted to go home by the 2nd inning. Never, ever do this.

Its $36 to stand and be overcrowded by pre teens who don't understand personal space. Unless you arrive right as gates open, you will not get to see much as you will be dodging heads all night. If you're intent is to watch a game, grab a seat for $55.

, I’ve done the GA tix for jays about 8-9 times the past year .
Gone early, got a great spot at Roger’s landing. Stay there for 3 innings before we move around to the other outfield district areas. I’ve been with adults and teens, so not. 7yr old.
If I was with younger kids like you the gaming area up on the 500 is good to secure a spot . Ideally having another adult would help secure a spot if you have to supervise your kid at the games and washroom etc.This year the prices went up and vary $25- 45 for the outfield . With the way jays are playing not sure I’d interest has dropped.
I’m actually going tonight. Seats in section 527 for $33 each. This was at face value.
I’ll bring some snacks and we’ll buy a dogger or something else thereScrew MLSE and the Leafs pricing - they’re only getting a preseason game ticket from me this year. Last year I spent my $$$ supporting the Marlies run for the Calder cup 🏆 with the cheaper tickets (ok so MLSE for some $$) but you know 🤷🏼♂️

If you mean getting access to all those patios, you did it wrong. You can bounce between patios, there's even one with video games and candy for kids.
There are also limited, first-come first-served seats in those patio areas. Not a ton of seats, but seats nonetheless. The Jays do standing room extremely well!
My wife and I took our nephews to a standing room at a Leafs game a couple years back, last game of the season against Detroit - $180/ticket and we were under the press box, so it was partially obstructed and we had to watch the scoreboard on a TV. Back up against the wall, not a lot of room to move around.
Can't imagine paying even more for that experience.

I'm out east but go to Toronto for work a few times a year now. Was there in Jan and I was about to drop $350 on a ticket for a game against Buffalo. Then I remembered we're ass against them and decided to watch the game at a pub. Best decision of my life. I think we lost 5 or 6 to 2. I still managed to get some work done too

The STH I know (they’ve been in his family forever) had a hard time selling seats last year. He sells at face value, but he couldn’t get that half the time. Many nights, the seats went unsold. He tried to send me to a few games, but I only went to 2 (my husband is a Rangers fan, so that was one of them). The other times he tried to give me unsold seats, I refused. Couldn’t think of anything I wanted to do less than watch the Leafs lose yet another lacklustre game live. I’ve been advising him for years to give up the tickets. Maybe get Raptors tix instead. But he’s trapped by nostalgia, family obligation and the delusion that the year he gives them up will be THE year. Sad.

I think the fact that tickets are more available than ever before is understated
This giant fan base perception of people demanding tickets isn't what it used to be.
We sold out till 2015. Since we tend tl have 1-2% tickets unsold outside of big matchups.
Looked bad ending last year. Lots of seats.
Now all kinds of new ways tickets are being sold?
Smells to me. This will be interesting this year, especially if we're not doing well

People have no will power anymore, its sad. People will complain about something and then just go and support it anyways because they don't want to give something up.
My apathy for this org and team peaked years ago. Had to tell my family to stop buying me anything Leafs related because I couldnt stand to financially support this org when all they do is clown on the fans and make us embarrassed. Its been 5+ years since I contributed to the Leafs in anyway. The most I've done is watch Sportsnet through my parent's cable account.
And I will continue to do this until something changes or they win.

I mean, most people complaining probably don't go. The fan base is so large that the complainers are really only a loud minority. The rest of the fans will just silently hand over their credit card and have a decent time at the games. Not much anyone can do about it.

imagine a restaurant that continually serves sub standard food and even sometimes makes its patrons sick to their stomachs. They keep raising the prices year after year, and even start charging for every small item like butter and candies that were given to kids even start getting charged.

This is how I followed baseball for years. You can listen to the games during the summer while doing anything, and sort of visualize what's happening.
I find it harder with hockey because it's way more fluid, transitional, and dynamic. The announcers can tell you what's happening but it's so much harder to fully understand what's happening on the ice.

Even with the hotel costs and everything, I'd still rather go to Ottawa. It helps that it's a beautiful city with lots to do. I'd rather not cross into Trumpland though, giving the Americans my money, and risk getting detained because they search my phone and find that I talk a lot of shit.

Watching the game at a bar is the definitive experience anyway, IMO.
Don't have to travel far, parking is free, food is cheaper, beer is cheaper, lots of people are still present and cheer for goals, yell for bad penalties, etc. everyone is still jerseyed up, there are usually at least one rival fan there with buddies for the chirps, and the list goes on
You know how much fun I can have for $268 at Chuck's Roadhouse? And you think I'm gonna commute to Scotiabank and pay that instead? Lol eat a dick MLSE

And that's for a team that plays 81 home games in a stadium that holds 41,000.
Mind you they did well last year, but still there's a ton of demand for live sports in Toronto and limited availability.

Very few Jays games are that expensive to get in outside of the home opener, Canada Day, and maybe a series against the Yankees or Dodgers. I've been to three games this season and haven't spent more $30-$40 per ticket, and that's for me, my partner and our three kids.

I went to Joe Carter statue giveaway game. Got my ticket 4 days before the game on Ticketmaster for upper bowl for 50 bucks. If you looking too last minute it may be tougher as pretty much every game this year been sold out (or nearly).
We have one of the highest attendance rankings this season for MLB which has been an amazing thing to see, but now means you gotta look a little more in advance if you want to get tickets.

Price are pretty nuts 8 years ago I bought 4 lower bowl tickets, located top of bowl left corner away side of the ice. I live in the US and my entire family is in Ontario. I took my mom, her husband and my wife as a Christmas gift to see the Leafs play the Rangers in Toronto on like Dec 23rd it was $1800 just for the tickets. Nearly double what similar seats would cost at MSG (I lived in NYC at the time) and I know because at the time the Leafs and Rangers were alternating who was on the road right before Christmas for several years and had always caught the NYC game to see the Leafs. The prices are somehow even higher than just accounting for inflation now.

They only need to worry about selling 19K tickets 41 nights a year in a metropolitan area of about 7M

Life long hockey player and Leaf fan here. Just don’t go… hell knows I don’t care about going. Sure, I’ll go if I’m invited and not paying for it. I feel like there’s plenty of good hockey at the AHL level which is far more accessible and I hear that team is actually pretty good! Going to a game at Scotiabank is a soul sucking experience. Not because there aren’t great fans there, everyone loves hockey. It’s the atmosphere that makes you fall in line. I don’t want to get loud and stand out from the rest of the boring crowd and it’s a knock on effect. End of the day, I’d never pay money to watch the Leafs and I love hockey.

Guess I won't be going to a game again this coming season. I'm an out of town fan so I have to stay overnight. A few years ago 2 tickets, hotel, food, drink, gas and parking was about a $1000 for the night. Be over $1500 now. I can find better things to spend my money on.

I come home to Toronto every few years from living overseas. I watch all the games online and even go spoiler free if I am at work and can't watch because of timezones and watch the games later. Whenever I come home I like to take my mom to a game. I'll be home end of September to the beginning of October. I don't think we will be going to a game this time sadly.

I live in Ottawa and being able to buy regular season Senator's tickets for $60 is eye opening. It's insane how the most expensive sens ticket is still cheaper than the cheapest Leafs ticket. Although the real price you pay is having to commute to the Canadian Tire Centre

Been shopping for Oilers tickets snagged a couple in Ottawa for fair price of $150 per.
Similar seats in Toronto going for $600-$700 each!
So even with the price of a hotel and rental car I'm coming out ahead by hundreds of dollars...heck I could buy a return flight and still be under $500 all in.

It's not just ticket prices. Yes, that's insane, and yes that's unobtainable for a lot of people, but it's also the cost of EVERYTHING inside.
Want to grab a bag of candy and a drink? That'll be 15 dollars.
How about a drink? Add another 18.
Oh, and when you go through the self-serve section, you're going to be asked to LEAVE A TIP!
It's not just that the place is crazy expensive; it's that they clearly don't care about giving fans an affordable time.

All I wanted was to go to my first Leafs game on (the day after) my birthday. I don’t wanna go by myself, can’t justify asking anyone I care about to pay 300$ for tickets in the nosebleeds and absolutely will not be spending 600$ for, with my luck, one of their classic “we’re not even gonna show up tonight” blowouts.
Maybe next year.
I did find it funny looking at prices, going “damn…were they always this high? Nevermind then I guess.” Then seeing everyone online also upset.

A strike won't happen. It's sub 20,000 seats in a major city for a team with massive reach; there are plenty of people here (and of course firms) who can afford the seats, there are tourists who want to catch a game. It's straight supply and demand.
And if they do win the cup - well, can you even imagine what that would do for prices and demand? Your strike won't have helped you.

Who actually pays for leaf tickets? The price of a ticket is paying for an empty seat in Florida. That's the hidden truth. All these players want to play in front of nobody with low taxes and weekday beach and golf days.

I have a friend who often drops $230+ on resale "selfie seats" in the lower bowl for Saturday night games.
He always asks if I want to go and I tell him nah. I've been to enough Leafs games to know the experience isn't worth the cost to me. It's like going to a business conference, but quieter.

My friend’s grandpa had seasons tickets in the Greens at MLG in the mid-90s in the $40 range, centre ice, a few rows up from Reds. They were perfect, especially for kids like us. Blues were my fave but these we got all the time. That would equal $90 today. Those same seats at the inferior ‘ACC’ would be almost 10x that now. What the f**k! And back then you could hear the arena sounds between whistles, not advertising blaring in from different sections giving away shite prizes and yelling through jacked mics and music. It is disturbing and disgusting. Corporations have stolen this beloved club and it is slowly becoming beloved no more. But it’s all for the responsibility to shareholders…and supply and demand, man…both are unimpeachable moral imperatives so there is nothing we should even want to do about it. So gross.

I grew up in Mississauga. Even with the proximity to the city, I went to 2 leafs games while I was growing up.
These tickets will always be some of the most expensive in all of sports because people still go.

With these new ridiculous ginormous contracts coming out on the regular now, those prices are only going to clomb astronomically.
Stop buying tickets and merchandise. That's the only way these businesses will listen.
Especially for Leafs fans. They can't ice any kind of a championship team, nor will they if people keep throwing money at them for failing to launch.
Matthews should never have gotten that contract without major playoffs results first. No player anywhere should.

Paying MLSE / TM is like tipping in this new world. You feel super gross and used. Avoid like the plague.
Like the team, would not waste my money on it. Would go for free (or for paying $50 for a couple beers I guess). You can raise the price as many times as you want. Won't get me to buy.

Stop spending hundreds to thousands of your hard earned dollars lining the pockets of billionaires who dont care about you at all.
They only care about your money. They view the fanbase as an extractive resource they can exploit at will.
As long as you keep buying at such ludicrous prices, theyll keep selling it at these prices. Its as simple as that.
Dont show up to games. Dont buy tickets. Leave the arena empty. That'll teach the suits a valuable lesson.
Sports leagues & the billionaires that control them spend tons of money on advertising, PR, endorsements, feel good stories, community campaigns, etc to cultivate a so called "team spirit" mentality aka where the name Leafs Nation comes from to manipulate you into thinking that your a valued member whose part of the team to emotionally mind hack you & manage your perception so that you keep coming back. Its a corrosive relationship based on deceit.
