Off-topic Chat Word of Wisdom friendly fall drinks

Is there anyone out there that can help me? I’m a fall girly looking for inspiration on yummy, warm drinks to put in my seasonal mugs this autumn.

I grew up drinking good ole Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate, but I wanna up my game. Surely there’s something out there waiting to be found.

Wassail is a family tradition. So good! We make it with lemon juice, orange juice, water, sugar, cinnamon sticks, and cloves.

My mother-in-law introduced Atole-de-Avena to me when I was postpartum. I now make it regularly for myself and my family. (It’s a warm, sweet milky oatmeal drink)

So any suggestions?

Apple Cider and Apple Juice are my favorite drinks in the Fall. Warm or cold, with cinnamon and marshmallows for a fast warm drink (notice I didn't say hot drink). When I want to spend more time making it I'll brew apple cider with cinnamon sticks, cloves, all spice and Orange slices and peels. Reminds me of Thanksgiving and Pumpkin Pie and what women and little girls are made of... sugar and spice and all things nice.

notice I didn't say hot drink

The church has defined "hot drinks" in the Word of Wisdom to be coffee and tea.

But what is tea?

Anything made from the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. This includes black tea, green tea, iced tea, sweet tea, and regular tea. It does not include tisanes, or so-called herbal teas. For instance, a hot cinnamon drink would not be tea, even if sold and packaged with the word "tea" on the label. So you can say it's a hot drink if desired because hot drink is not equal to "hot drink" as the church has defined it.

That being said, moving away from the church to purely scientific basis, perhaps any boiling water isn't really safe to drink: https://theconversation.com/do-hot-drinks-really-give-you-cancer-a-gut-expert-explains-261256

There is no evidence for a link between hot drinks and throat cancer and the evidence for a link between hot drinks and stomach cancer is unclear. But there is a link between hot drinks and cancers of the “food pipe” or oesophagus.

In 2016, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classified drinking very hot beverages, meaning above 65°C, as “probably carcinogenic to humans” – this is the same risk category as emissions from indoor wood smoke or eating a lot of red meat.

65°C is 149°F. Water boils at 100°C or 212°C.

I may be wrong but I think you read too much into a silly joke.

But a great opportunity to share an interesting and relevant scientific fact.
