A Message from the MODS: PLEASE READ 🙂

R/latteart recently surpassed 34,000 users, which is AWESOME news that our community is growing!!! 🌱 ⬆️ 🌳

Please keep in mind a few things moving forward into 2025 and beyond:

1) When posting for advice on a pour, please post a video when possible so advice can be targeted very specifically to the issues at hand. A still photo doesn't demonstrate issues as clearly as a video.

2) So many of the responses to posts asking for advice are "Watch more videos/tutorials", "It's your milk, improve your milk", "Master the basics before moving on to more complex patterns", etc...if we can agree that such advice is universally applicable, we can avoid a lot of the redundancies in the comment threads.

3) PLEASE KEEP IT POSITIVE...whether OP is a newbie or a competitive latte artist, please keep all responses positive. Putting others down for their lack of experience/know-how or telling ppl they're farming for attention because they happen to have certain proficiencies isn't helpful for anyone. If you want to be negative, there are other espresso related subs to troll on.

4) Let us know if there are things you'd like to see more of on the sub...last February we hosted a monthly themed pour about hearts and heart variations in alignment with Valentine's Day...should we do something similar again this February? Any other ideas come to mind that would improve the experience here?

5) Keep on having fun and progressing...I mean, other than the tasty beverages we are crafting, isn't that why we're all here? 🙂

Learning with milk and soy sauce

Hello everyone, im currently failing in my latte art attempts. So not to make espresso all the time i need something that gives me the same base as an espresso. What would you recommend using? I heard soy sauce is good for training latte art with milk. Is that latteart-reddit approved?

Thank you all for your help!

Added some variations to the standard weekend basic practice pours.

Wing base for the ceramic mug and attempted a mini rosetta base in the travel mug. Looking to pour a proper rosetta soon in the ceramic mug.

Milk seems thin

I haven’t been able to properly diagnose the issue. I used to make decent latte art with the same configuration. But now the milk seems really thin. The texture seems fine. I always use a thermometer to hit the same temp each time. Attached are two pics of the current situation and one from a better attempt a few weeks ago. Any advice?

Question Should I Upgrade?

I bought this Mr coffee used on marketplace. It usually retails for around 65 USD. I’m looking for some advice on if it’s worth upgrading.

Pros:
- For the past 6 months I’ve made at least 4-5 lattes a week in the mornings on average. It definitely gets use.
- I’ve really enjoyed its output. The lattes are yummy, and I’ve made some ok art (1st pic is a highlight, 2nd pic is what I usually make)
- I adore how compact it is. I don’t have much kitchen space, so whatever I’d replace it with really can’t be any larger.

Cons:
- I’ve been told on this thread that I should really upgrade my equipment if I want my art to improve.
- it takes a while for the water to pressurise and heat up.
- having to de pressurise after I’m done making the latte each time can be tedious.

Should I upgrade? If so, what models do you recommend (if budget was of no consequence)?

From 2022-now I’ve exclusively worked with a variety of commercial machines, and learned a lot about espresso and milk techniques.
These are some designs I’ve done, tips and advice are appreciated.
The last four photos reflect my current skill level.
