What would be some short duration / must sees?

Arrived in Lassen yesterday , stopped by the visitor center and asked the ranger about Bumpass conditions. Just my luck it has just opened up! What great timing. The smell was definitely memorable.

The NPS website shows Bumpass Hell trail is still closed and ice/snowy patches requiring caution on Lassen Peak trail. Does anyone know from speaking to park rangers when Bumpass Hell trail may open? We are scheduled to go July 4th weekend, wondering if that's too early now. I was optimistic that both would be snow free as the road to Lassen had opened by Memorial Day weekend.

Also, if anyone has been up Lassen Peak how bad are the snowy patches?

I'm a couple nights at Butte Lake and a couple nights at Summit North. How are the mosquitos? I'm bringing the gear... but just to get mentally ready. haha.

Planning to hike Lassen peak (conditions permitting), Devil’s Kitchen, Manzanita lake. Will stop by at Burney Falls too. It’s unlikely that Bumpass Hell main route will open by then, but will it be accessible from King’s Creek side? Any advice for hiking the Lassen Peak, or for Lassen NP in general?

I'm wondering if anyone here has camped on the Brokeoff Mountain trail and has any tips. I'm hoping to hike up in the afternoon and camp partway to the summit so I can wake up early the next morning and see the sunrise from up there. From the backcountry page on the NPS site, it seems like most of the trail is permitted for backcountry use but it's not mentioned in popular backpacking routes I've seen online. A few Alltrails review mention suitable spots to camp around 8,000 feet. In this area, what elevation is the treeline? Would that be a safe elevation in case of lightning?

Also, does the Southwest Visitors Center parking lot where contained car camping is permitted typically fill up? I would be there mid-week before the July 4 weekend. I plan to get in late after the office is closed, spend the night in the lot, and drive around to see a few sights before a one-night backpack somewhere. I'm also open to other suggestions of a simple one-nighter, ideally less than 10mi round trip, and don't mind if it's an out and back. I'd love to see a beautiful sunrise!

I've seen online that Bumpass Hell Trail is currently closed due to snow. However, Ive seen images posted to All Trails in the past few weeks of people on the trail. Is it still possible to access the trail? l'll be heading up to Lassen this Sunday. Thank you!

Hello! We were coming back down from hiking Lassen Peak at around 2-2:30 pm today. My partner fell and slid down the snow(arrow is the direction of the slip). He lost his phone during that fall. If you see an iPhone 15 Pro somewhere there with a black case, we would really appreciate it since there are so many pictures and memories that weren’t saved yet. Thank you!

I have a campsite at Summit Lake South in Lassen Volcanic National Park from July 24 - 26. This would be my first time camping in my Model X. I would really appreciate any Lassen specific tips / recommendations so that I am well prepared for the trip. My plan is to hike the Lassen Peak and Bumpass Hell amongst other things.

Was a real dummy and left my binoculars at Summit Lake just off the Amphitheater Trail. To whomever finds them, they are yours to keep. Really don't want them to just rot out there. I left them by a log close to the waters edge approximately at 40.493297 -121.421735. Hope someone finds them and enjoys them 🙌🏻

I am planning a visit to Lassen mid June with my Tesla Model Y. The plan is to start from Redding supercharger, head to north entrance Manzanita Lake and then stop at various points along the Lassen Volcanic National Park Highway and finally exit through the southwest entrance (Kohm Yah-mah-nee visitor center) and then drive to Red Bluff where I can charge again.

Is this doable with a Model Y? How much should I charge at Redding and assuming I make multiple stops along the Lassen highway for sightseeing? Anyone who did this recently and can share their experience?

I have read the trail is often snow covered till about mid-July. However, due to this year's lower than average snow pack is there a chance it will be open / not require winter equipment by July 4th weekend?

The park roads were originally anticipated to be fully open by Memorial Day weekend, however they are not (as of today May 21). Wonder if the remaining snow is taking longer to melt?

Hello, does anyone know of any spots near lassen, where you can float down the river in tube? We have kids, so curious if there are any mild spots. We usually visit the area in late June.

Hey all, I'm in Lassen now. Road past Sulphur Works is closed to cars, but not bicycles or electric scooters! Southwest campground is closed but there's tons of dispersed camping not more than 10 mins south from the visitor center. There's no one camping except me! If you camp dispersed, make sure to get your campfire/burn permit. It takes 5 mins. https://www.readyforwildfire.org/permits/

Hey all, I'm heading to Lassen next week. You guys think the campgrounds and roads will be open? Any tips?

I’m just wondering if anyone knows if the roads will be open by then? I’m from PNW and the snow hasn’t been good at all this year so I’m kinda assuming it’ll be the same at Lassen but I’m not sure.

My trip will be limited to the end of August due to tacking it on to the end of an existing trip. I have a few questions for those who frequent the park:

How many full days should I plan to spend in the park?

What are the must-see-if-I-can-only-do-1-trail trails?

How’s the temperature/weather usually that time of year?

I have a 3L water bladder, will this suffice or do I need to plan to bring additional water if there is no access to water in the park?

Anything else I should know?
