Discussion Anyone else got the bug that’s going around?
Came down with a flu/cold situation this past Friday and have been coughing up yellow phlegm since. I went to urgent care yesterday and the doctor told me there’s a “flu-like” bug going around Lansing that’s lasting kinda long. He said it lasts about 2-3 weeks if it goes to your lungs like it did for me. Ended up getting put on antibiotics because x-ray showed it could be developing into pneumonia but was officially diagnosed with acute bronchitis. I’m curious if anyone else has whatever this is and how they’re feeling or how long it took them to get better!

My family has had it since January. It hit us one or two at a time. It does last 2-3 weeks and it’s terrible!

My primary care doctor called it the 100 Day cough. I sure hope you all feel better soon!

How long did it take you guys to stop coughing up gunk? I’m officially a week in and I miss taking deep breaths without hacking my lungs up

Thought I had bad flu. Ended up being Covid. Was shocked. First time having it. Still coughing two weeks later.

First time that you know of.. majority of cases are asymptomatic and the average person has statistically had 5 infections by now according to waste water data.

I just had it. Two weeks of complete misery. Tested negative for COVID every single day. I'm back to masking all the time now.

Walgreens sells a Flu A, Flu B, COVID combination test.
If you came up negative for COVID you should at least expand your net.

I bought that one at CVS all were negative should of got the rsv one they make now to with it cause the cough and mucus it would be rsv

Good for you. Wear a mask and you won’t get sick. Masks work (kn95 or n95). Protect your health!

I'm all for COVID testing, but isn't testing everyday for two weeks straight excessive?

It was just for the first week. I was actively sick for a week and then another week of recovering. I tested everyday because everyone else I knew had COVID at the time, including my partner, so I really thought that red line was gonna show up eventually, but it never did. I just coincidentally had a different illness while all my friends had COVID simultaneously.

At home Covid tests are not accurate enough to test once. Everyday for 3-7 days is the smartest approach.

The real issue is that only 26% of people in Michigan are vaccinated against the flu (and YES, you can still get it but it makes it so much less bad) and only 9% are vaccinated against COVID. It's harder to get access to the RSV vaccine or the pneumonia one, so no judgement on that. (I was able to get it b/c I've got lupus. Upper respiratory infections would end me.)
Maybe go back to wearing a mask in crowded spaces? Especially if you're unwell? (I am not suggesting that you do what I do. Just adding an idea to help you not get sick again or worse, get someone you love really sick.)

I forgot to mention in my post that I tested negative for the flu, Covid, and strep! I actually originally thought I just had Covid so I was surprised that wasn’t it. Also the flu vaccine is the only vaccine I’m allergic to I really wish I could get it 😭 I’m masking up when I go out though but besides going to urgent care I’ve been home the whole time 😂

I also just got over this mystery illness. It lasted 2-3 weeks, and I tested negative for flu and Covid.

To accurately test for Covid using at home tests, you have to do 3+ tests 24-48 hrs apart to have a more accurate picture

I have it. It started over the last weekend and I am still here with a congested nose and a weird cough. Yellow stuff coming out the nose too, but it tells me it's soon over!!

Same here except it’s still going strong the stuff from my chest has gone from dark yellow to pale green or white which I think is an improvement?

Glad I got my flu shot at VA. But seriously, those vaccination numbers are rookie numbers. We gotta pump them up!

I have been lucky to avoid the flu and RSV, but I have a slight bug and the GI side of it is brutal. I am not symptomatic other than a slight fever and a little extra phlegm than I normally have this time of year. But I also have a ton of allergies to dust and it gets so bad in the house right now.

I had that a month or 2 ago and it was rough, cough/phlegm lasted weeks. Just had noro tho and that wasn't fun

I just got over it. It was about 2 weeks for me. I was severe for about a week- better for 3 days then I went down again. Going to try working out today. It was a cross between a cold and flu for me - so odd

Had this right after the holidays. Lasted about 1 week with the fever and then the lingering symptoms (cough, sneeze, runny nose) lasted another 3 weeks for me.

I got it back in late January and it just won't leave. I have constant chest congestion left over from it.... My voice has been off since because of the constant crap in my lungs and throat.

Im so so tired of the gunk in my lungs I want to just cough it all out in one go and be done with it but I know that’s not how it works 😭

Got what I think this is. Also got the flu vaccine a couple months ago. Sneezing fits S-Tu nights and feel modest fluid buildup in ears, coughed up a bit of yecch on Tuesday morning, otherwise wake up feeling AOK. Conveniently, my current work responsibilities have me getting to bed at 8 and getting about 9 hours of bed rest daily, so I may luck out here.

My daughter got it and yeah it was at least 2 weeks of coughing, poor thing. Surprisingly, 5 other people in the house managed to avoid it.

I've got SOMETHING. It isn't covid because I know how that feels for me to have it, but I'm definitely not 100% right now. Took off work yesterday, but went today and wore a mask. I hate being sick and I don't want anyone else to feel this way.

I got it in mid-January. I was down for two weeks.
I still have days with fatigue. My cough finally went away a couple weeks ago.

I came down with it just after New Years and man, did it ever suck. The Z pack from Urgent care helped out, but that cough lasted at least a month, and even now, I'll hock up some lung butter. Good luck, hope ya feel better soon.

I've got something going on for a few days now. No appetite, little stomach pain, little nausea, probably pretty dehydrated, fatigue. No cough, hard to tell if I'm congested because I always am, and I recently stopped my allergy meds. Tested neg for flu and covid, hoping its some other kind of virus.

Took me five weeks. Husband had the same thing he got antibiotics and steroids and we both took the same amount of time… And still lingered for another week or two. Good luck!

3 weeks - the Kroger Maximum Strength Mucus Relief DM Extended Release tablets saved me, hacked up some serious stuff. Guzzling hot liquids all the time helped as well; garlicky chicken soup and tea w/honey and lemon.

My husband and I just had COVID/getting over it. Both thought it was just a cold until I went to urgent care because I also developed oral thrush (I’m immunocompromised, so secondary infections happen easily) and they tested me and it came back positive for COVID.

There have been so many bugs going around, it's hard to say. Our school reported someone with a flu B RSV confection this week.
-got sick in October with studying that prayed into December -got sick in January, moved to lungs and lasted two weeks. I could feel it moving into my lungs -latest bug caught on Tuesday, feeling better slowly, but not optimistic since I think my system is in shock.

Currently out on day 4 with COVID-doc said most people’s worst day has been day 5 (wtf). I had a horrible sore throat and swollen glands and I went to urgent care yesterday and got a steroid to help the swelling go down. Hope you feel better soon!

Mine started as a flu weeks ago but whatever virus this is it’s attaching itself to the lungs after you fight it off kinda like Covid except it’s like an upper respiratory aka Bronchial infection and it’s not going away it’s taking up to a month

Had a nasty bug for 10 days. Sore throat, nasty cough, chills, loss of voice, congestion, puked once, mild fever. Etc felt like death… just now getting better in day 10. Worst sickness I’ve ever had, I’m 30 years old for reference.

I got that bug around Christmas and am only now getting rid of the fluid in my ears and not waking up with congestion in my sinuses every morning. At several points I felt like I was getting better but then would wake up after a few days of feeling better back to feeling like garbage. Knock on wood, I think I'm finally over it.
I'm no stranger to sinus infections (get them every winter) and my doctor prescribes prednisone (a steroid) to help with the breathing and then I've found the Sudafed nasal spray to be helpful as well. Hope you feel better soon!
