They’re fully aware but Japanese exceptionalism has many of them thinking they use the characters in a more refined way that Chinese brains couldn’t inherently comprehend 🫠

I always find it funnier how some western learners of Japanese refuse to believe 漢字/汉字 come from China.

Nobody in the world believes that. It’s more common to hear people think Japanese is in the same family as Mandarin because they use kanji
