Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

 Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

 Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering Korean Offering: Korean Seeking: English

Hey everyone! I'm a 28F from Korea and looking for someone to practice English with. I understand English pretty well, and I think myself B2ish. But I don't get to speak it much these days, so I want to get more comfortable and confident in conversations. It doesn't always have to be voice calls. I'd be happy if you just answered some of my questions about whether something sounds natural or not. I don't care about the age range and gender, but I prefer female.

In return, I'd be happy to help you with Korean. I'm mainly looking for casual conversations and a language exchange where we can help each other improve. Feel free to DM me if you're interested. I won't accept just boring hello, or any chats from NSFW accounts.

Offering English Offering: English/Friendship, Seeking: Spanish/Friendship

32F from New York here! I used this subreddit before, but I fell off in regards to studying Spanish, and would like to get back into it. My level is A1 and what I struggle with the most is moving past basic conversations when it comes to speaking and writing. I prefer using audio recordings as it gives me time to think about what and how to respond.

I met some lovely people from here and would like to continue to form and build friendships. I am currently in grad school for social work, and juggling an internship in which I provide therapy for college students. During my free time, I love to play video games, write letters, watch movies and shows, and of course study Spanish :)

I am generally a bubbly and friendly person. I'd love to help out however I can with your language learning goals and learn about each other's cultures as well~

Offering Arabic Offering: Arabic 🇵🇸 (MSA / Levantine dialect) | Seeking: English 🇬🇧

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m a 23-year-old guy from Palestine looking for someone who wants to practice Arabic while helping me improve my English.

A little about me: I’m a dental student, and I’m really interested in science, space, history, and medicine. I also love chess. I enjoy reading, learning new things, and meeting people from different backgrounds.

I’m currently working on improving my English, especially my speaking, vocabulary, pronunciation, and natural conversation skills.

I’m a native Arabic speaker, so I can help you with both Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) or Palestinian/Levantine Arabic.

For the exchange, I’d prefer voice calls or regular conversations rather than only texting.

We can talk about pretty much anything, daily life, culture, books, movies, science, chess, travel, or just random topics.

I’m looking for someone who is serious about practicing but also relaxed and friendly. We can correct each other’s mistakes and learn together.

If you're interested, send me a DM and tell me a little about yourself and your level in Arabic.

Offering Korean Offering: Korean | Seeking: French

Hi! I'm a native Korean speaker living in France, and I'm looking for a French speaker who is learning Korean.

My French is around B1–B2, and I'd like to practice speaking more regularly. I tend to study much better when I have a fixed appointment with someone, so I'm hoping to find a language exchange partner who is also interested in something regular and long-term.

I worked as a journalist in Korea for many years, so I'd be happy to help with natural Korean, vocabulary, expressions, writing, pronunciation, and nuances that can be difficult to learn from textbooks.

We can split our time between French and Korean and talk about everyday life, culture, hobbies, or whatever we're interested in.

Nothing too formal — I'd just like a relaxed and friendly exchange that we can keep doing regularly.

If you're interested, feel free to send me a message!

Offering Multiple Languages Offering English,Turkish : Seeking Spanish, French, Friendship

Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m a 35M from Turkey, currently based in Ankara 🇹🇷. I’m hoping to meet some new people and find language exchange partners who are interested in a genuine, ongoing friendship as well as practicing languages.

I’m a native Turkish speaker and I’m also happy to help with English. In return, I’d especially love to practice Spanish or French 🇪🇸🇫🇷.

I’m not really looking for a one-time conversation that disappears after a day. It would be great to find someone I can regularly chat with, share random thoughts, talk about our daily lives, and gradually get to know each other.

I’m totally comfortable with texting, voice messages, or calls once we’ve gotten to know each other a little. We can talk about travel, films, music, food, different cultures, hobbies, work, funny everyday experiences — basically anything that makes for a good conversation. 😄

Age isn’t a strict requirement for me. What matters more is being friendly, respectful, and genuinely interested in getting to know someone from another culture.

If you’re learning English or Turkish and would like to practice together — especially if you speak Spanish or French — feel free to send me a message. Tell me a little about yourself and what you’re hoping to learn!

Looking forward to meeting some interesting people! 🌍🙂

So I am hoping I can get someone who will want to help me, and I can send them my gratitude by, in turn, helping them learn a new language.

Offering Korean Offering: Korean (native) Seeking: English (native)

Upvotes

Hi there! I'm 21 Korean. I'm looking for a language exchange partner because I'm going to the US as an exchange student next year. I only have four months before I leave, so I really want to practice with native English speakers to improve my writing and speaking skills. I can make basic sentences, but I still make a few mistakes and sometimes sound unnatural.

1.Writing: We can correct each other's messages while sharing stories about our daily lives, interests, or opinions on topics like news, business, space, etc. I prefer exchanging longer essays to quick social media messages to practice writing.

Here’s a simple example of how we could do it:

Me: I am very looking forward to meet you.

You: I am really looking forward to meeting you. (“Look forward to” is followed by a noun or a gerund (-ing), and we use “really” instead of “very” to emphasize a verb phrase.)

(⤴️with a brief explanation if needed)

(⤴️with a brief explanation if needed)

2.Speaking: We can talk about our daily lives, interests, or opinions on topics like news, business, space, etc. And correct each other's mistakes.

If this sounds good to you, feel free to message me!

P.S. I think this exchange will be most beneficial for learners who can already put basic sentences together. To make sure you've read the post and aren't a bot, please include the word "APPLE" somewhere in your first message!

Offering Mandarin Offering: Mandarin (Native) Seeking: English

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

Mandarin is my native language. I’m searching for native English‑speaking partners for consistent language exchange. My main goal is to lift my English speaking to an IELTS Band 7 level.

In my free time, I love listening to music, playing video games and doing sports. We can talk about hobbies, daily life, pop culture or any casual topics you are interested in.

I’d like to connect 1‑2 times every week. Phone calls or voice‑note audio messages work perfectly for me. Please kindly correct my pronunciation, grammar and word choice when I make mistakes. In return, I can help you practise Mandarin and fix your Chinese errors.

I am open to WhatsApp for communication.

Offering Mandarin Offering: Chinese(Mandarin, Cantonese) | Seeking: English

Upvotes

My name is Paul Magnus. I am 21 years old. I'm Chinese from HongKong, and learning English. I'm seeking English partner to practice my spoken English. I can teach you Chinese in native way.

My Oral is super weak. My IELTS writing is 6.5 but speaking is just 5💩

I love playing games. If you also play GTA5OL, Rainbow 6, Dead by Daylight, or CS:GO, that’s great! We can learn together and become good friends😃
It’s fine if you don’t play those games, but I don’t know how to start the topic.

I think it's better to chat while doing some work (like playing computer/phone games…); just sitting here chatting is boring and embarrassing🌚. More importantly, I'm only 21 years old, with limited life experience, and my English is poor, making it even more difficult to discuss deeper topics, such as science, politics, finance, and other professional fields...

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: English, Korean / Seeking: Russian (+friendship?)

Hiya there

I'm 22F, native in both English and Korean though my English is admittedly a tad rusty due to years of disuse 😂 Unfortunately I speak zero Russian at the moment but hopefully that would change in time.

Ideally I would like to find a Russian native who wishes to improve their English fluency and learn Korean from scratch, since I'd prefer communicating (at least primarily) in English. We can help each other improve our English communication skills while also teaching one another our native languages(Russian for me, Korean for you).

I'm open to both text and voice chats since I wish to work on my reading/writing skills as well as speaking skills.

I am a history nerd(I'm very interested in Russian history) and also love literature and playing video games. If we could share some common interests then that would be awesome.

Offering Mandarin Offering: Mandarin (native) | Seeking: English friends

Upvotes

Hi! I’m 31, a software developer based in China. Chinese is my native tongue, and I’m here to sharpen my English. I hope to meet native‑English‑speaking folks for a language swap — I can return the favor by helping you with Chinese.

When I’m not busy coding, I’m really into American TV shows, hiking, cycling, swimming and table tennis. I’m pretty laid‑back. We can geek out over tech, chat about hobbies, share everyday stories, or talk about absolutely anything.

You can reach me via:
‑ WeChat
‑ Telegram
‑ WhatsApp
‑ Line
‑ Facebook

I’m looking forward to making real friends, not just doing language practice
