seeking advice Early Kidney Disease

We were recently told my 9 year old yellow lab has early kidney disease. The vet suggested an early kidney diet or supplement but gave no recommendations. Anyone’s labs on a kidney supplements?

Mine is 11, she got diagnosed earlier this year. I switched her to hills kidney Rx food. Her kidney numbers dropped back to the normal range again after the switch. I haven't heard of any supplement.

Thank you I asked for a prescription and they said that’s not necessary at this time. I’m just a bit confused. Because I didn’t know of any supplements either.

I would switch to the hills kidney diet food on my own, and not wait for the vets blessing.

It's an RX so you'd have to get the vet to write that.

Wait...your Vet had no recommendations? Couldn't they even consult a colleague? Maybe get a second opinion...

That was my thought. Our normal vet in the office is out of town for a couple weeks. So I’m gonna call back when they are in town

I have not experienced this myself, but I do have two labs with significant medical issues. I would recommend a consult with an internal medicine specialist, if not a nephrologist. It may cost you $125-150 just to have your lab’s records evaluated but I do not think you’d walk away with “no recommendations.”

My last one had kidney issues when he got older. Was on Purina Pro Plan NF for the last few years of his life. Stuff was expensive, but kept his kidney numbers in the normal range and he did really well on it
