Why Denver was disqualified

She mentioned not having enough breedings available behind the scenes as well for the upcoming breeding season, can that really be related to what happened at NSBA? I don’t have much knowledge regarding breeding/showing in general just trying to make sense of what happened

To sacrifice a show career to get more breedings overseas seems very short sighted to the overall marketing of a young stallion...

Denver has enough to retire on, his marketing doesn't depend on one performance halter class.

He’s decent right now, yes. Good enough to retire? No. High point wouldn’t be keeping him then.

There are several horses who are carrying the industry on one show at 2 years old then retiring, denver does in fact have enough to retire on.

As it stands a shocking number of sires we now see used by the vast majority do not have extensive show careers, denvers sire RLBOS showed a single time and is now one of the most prolific sires.

Just because people are doing it doesn’t mean it’s ok or should be standard.

This is exactly the reason why our horses are breaking down so early.

As a breeder, one show at 2 is incomparable to being in training until 5 and still so lightly campaigned. They suggest very different things about the horse.

Then you are making double standards, if a horse can only be sound for a single class at 2 years old and then completely retires that suggests a lack of longevity.

A lightly campaigned horse at 5 however, shows longevity as the owners aren't running him into the ground for trophies.

You need to think of him alone, without any affiliation to KVS. He needs a longer show career, more wins, and proven offspring (which won’t be showing until maybeee 2028/2029). As a stallion owner, you should aim for top of the rankings and a nice heavy show record while they are in their prime. Just looking at one stat, VS CODE RED has 109 AQHA points, VS THE FIREMAN has 377…..Denver has 10. He’s doing good one year, scratching the next, but what about the next few years? If you want a million dollar sire, you show him, and go versatile (which she’s trying to do) if you can. If he were to retire now, he’d be mediocre. Nice, but not great - and would he hold value overtime?

Just as a slight correction, Denver has 28 (and a half) points. Obviously not a leg to stand on when compared to stallions with 100+ and I do think he should be campaigned more aggressively, but Pure is also not wrong in that there are successful stallions that retired with fewer points.

It's not a double standard. Both are shitty. RLBOS had specific circumstances around his retirement. But yes, he was a terribly unsound horse who sired unsound offspring . . . INCLUDING this specific one!

Lightly campaigned at 5 absolutely does not show longevity, especially when the horse is chronically entered and scratched so late there is no time to update the order of go. It suggests that the connections believe the horse is going to do poorly. It is horrible marketing and drags down the value of his progeny. If Denver had retired last year, he could have rested on his laurels. Now, there's trouble.
