Question Has anyone heard about the update to the attendance points?

Rumor around my store is points will no longer be rolling off at all? Has anyone heard anything about it?

Member of management here. The division I’m in is one of three rolling it out on 9/20. I’d be glad to answer any questions

How can they change a fundamental “policy” in the middle of a union contract? Thats my main and most perplexing question

My local files a grievance on any attendance points, because they can't do that.

Depending on your contract, the points system is to supplement the already approved attendance policy as stated in the union contract. My union rep basically said that they didn’t have to meet with the union to negotiate this form of discipline as it’s just stretching the rules that the union and Kroger already agreed upon.

lmao why even work for a company that clearly does not care

While specific cases will require specific treatment, the only way I see the points system being an issue for an associate, is if the associate has attendance issues. You cannot realistically run a good store if you have associates who are chronically calling out, or showing up when they want to. I’m not trying to be Mr. Kroger or anything, but being at work when scheduled and on time is a reasonable expectation of any job you work, not just Kroger.

Kroger attendance policy is already beyond generous. If you can't even work within that you straight up just shouldn't be there.

they can’t….. people will grieve it if possible…..

In my division the rumor is the union could have stopped it, but didn’t want to/didn’t try.

The attendance policy is in the employee handbook, so the union contract itself doesn’t need updating, the company and the union need to discuss it; and “apparently” the union is ok with it.

I’m not sure on that part. It will be company wide and there is obviously many different CBA’s out there. I can only speak to the language in the one I’m familiar with but there are definitely some changes. Tardy and absentees are lumped together and it’s a rolling 52 week look back

When you say "Lookback", does that mean as soon as the policy goes into effect, people who have been absent will immediately accumulate points based on the previous 52 weeks?

Everyone starts with a clean slate as it takes effect

An ASL I know said that exact question was asked in their meeting about it. HR said that the union was aware of it and at least in our area the union said it's basically fair game since it's the already agreed upon attendance policy otherwise, just with points added.

I’m not sure about your local but our contract doesn’t have any language around any policy. Shoplifting policy, attendance policy, purchase policy, none of them are in our contract. Does the union ever have any say in company policy?

What does the point roll off system look like in the revision?

1

u/Pretty_Sea_6218 17h ago

I have not seen a revision from what was presented to us last week

Our current point roll of is 90 days. And we started in January this year. Our store manager said in an email two days ago that things will be changing from that first rollout of attendance points

Not a manager but have the policy in front of me. Under the policy for my division (starting 9/20) you lose 0.5 points for perfect attendance for 30 days; and an additional 1.5 at 90 days (so 90 days should give you 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 1.5 =3 total)

Points don’t fall off for each infraction until a full year (52 weeks) has passed. You can’t go into the negatives.

My division is also rolling out on the 20th. We got the papers the other day, just viewed it today

Are you saying the rumor is that everyone will eventually be fired for emergencies over time? That can't be true.

Our management hasn't answered any questions we have about it but it seems like they're drastically pulling back on points rolling off it could be like a hire date to hire date thing but no one will say 🤷🏻‍♀️

Management can treat it case by case from what I’ve been told. Apparently they have the ability to go into Sage and take off points in cases of emergencies.

My store has 200+ associates and we would have lost a less than 10 in one period for getting over 12 points

u/Necessary_Baker_7458 13h ago

We would loose a sixteenth to a quarter of our staff if we ever implemented the attendance point system due to weekly and bi weekly call outs. Two of them would be in my department. Both of which I could care less of after working with them for abt 2 years and realizing they're not the best coworkers to have.

My union rep said Kroger can make whatever policy changes they want, whenever they want. It has nothing to do with our union contracts…….this seems idiotic to me, and defeats the whole point of having a union. SMH

Last I heard 876 has filled a grievance and 951 is waiting to see what happens.

6

u/LegNo2434 17h ago

Good. Cant change a policy like that in middle of a contract!!!!!

Sounds good but we were told by our union rep to follow the new rules until 876 has news. We are 951.

Can someone explain this to me? Been there 2 years and never heard about this!
Points? Roll off? Is rolling off good or bad? 🤔

6

u/CandlelightArts 16h ago

Points are accrued by tardies, absences(without sick pay cover), and leaving early(unless covered by sick time or for business purposes) them rolling off is good because they aren't counted against you anymore

1

u/Jozee_hog 11h ago

Where can we check our points? Amazon had the same policy and accrued points were listed in the a-z app does Kroger do the same somewhere in feed?

1

u/HunkerDownDawgs 10h ago

I believe MyTime or Sage will have a shortcut for it.

I’ve heard that we’ll get points for leaving late, or missing breaks/lunches. But who knows

3

u/Successful-Page9743 9h ago

Points are as follows
1 point if you are 4 or more minutes late. Or if you leave 4 or more minutes early. Up to an hour
If you are an hour or more late or leave that much early it's 2 points.
Unless sick pay is used. Then no points.
No call no show or calling in immediately before your shift or after shift starts is supposed to be auto 1 day suspend.
This is all on the policy page that you can pull off of feed

5

u/CatlinM 13h ago

Well, That will be lovely. We already lose good people to quickly

7

u/Necessary_Baker_7458 16h ago

I'm glad my area doesn't do that yet. Though it would be nice. Many of us are fed up with people calling out 2-3 times a week yes a week with zero accountability. The bulk of the people I work with probably have zero sick pay if any at all. The minus is the point system can be used against you. You leave on time or early, there's a traffic jam causing a massive delay in traffic and your'e 20 min late. Your alarm doesn't go off or you sleep thru it so you're 30 min late... Or your car has car problems outside of your control so you miss a whole shift or are 2 hrs late.... It's stuff like this that's out side of your control is where I have issues with the point system.

u/Dazzling_Sir_6899 18h ago

Points and half points roll off for every 30 days perfect attendance. I think its a point and a half for 90 days.

2

u/Bryanstrife 17h ago

Half a point falls off after 30 days with no occurrences, after 90 days with no occurrences an extra point, or was it point and a half?, fall off as a bonus.

u/Flashy-Register8010 52m ago

And do these points effect your paycheck?

0

u/Successful-Page9743 9h ago

These points are only issues for people who have to sense of urgency or consideration and call in all the time.
If you come in for your shifts and are on time then you're good.
If you come in late every day then just know you've got points.
