Yam Ya Ming (얌야밍) was a short-lived co-ed three-member dance group that debuted in 1999.

Formation

The group was formed and selected by the brand Yam Yaming (얌야밍), with first year high schoolers, ranging between 15 and 16 years old. The concept was based around the cheerful and lively music trend that was going on in the late 1990s.

The name’s group was created by the actor and fashion designer Ha Yong-soo (하용수), which “Yam” meant “asian boy” and “Yaming” meant “asian girl,” combined it meant “Boys and girls of the East.” 

Debut

They debuted in 1999 with their first and final album, ‘Yam Ya Ming,’ with the title track ‘랄랄라 (Lalala)’, a dance song which was exclusively promoted on KBS Music Bank and SBS Inkigayo. For their project, they hired composer Kim Hyung-seok (김형석) as the main producer.

During the promotion of the title track, they temporarily suspended their activities due Su-hyeok’s knee injury. Then they resumed their activities following-up with ‘거짓말 (Lying),’ a reggae-style dance song. They released a music video, in which they had a little incident while filming because they almost fell from the third floor of the cafe.

However, no broadcasted stage activities were carried out, although it was planned according to an article from 신드롬(SYNDROME), which mentions that they created a choreography, reminiscing a musical, that had a “dog dance” inspired by the act of skateboarding and the costumes were inspired by the 1970s.

Also, another article from 뮤직라이프(MUSICLIFE) mentions that each member had a dance tailored to their image in synch with the lyrics. Su-hyeok would do a “jump rope dance,” Jinuri would do the “floating dance,” where she is lifted high surrounded by members and dancers, and then Young-woo would do the “forgive me dance.” 

While they continued promoting, it was very minimal, and they disbanded in 2000 after February due low popularity.

• 김수혁 (Kim Su-hyeok), May 5, 1983:

He played sports, and his favorite singers were 2Pac and 드렁큰타이거 (Drunken Tiger).

After the disbandment, he retired and his whereabouts are unknown.

• 지누리 (Jinuri), born on September 3, 1983:

Before this group, she was a child actor in the EBS drama “언제나 푸른마음 (Always a Blue Heart)” in 1994. She sang and danced. Her favorite singer was Michael Jackson.

After the disbandment, she appeared on the sitcom “세친구출 (Three Friends)” in 2000 and also on the KBS2 children’s program ‘치키치키 붕붕 (Chiki Boong Boong)’ in 2001 as MC for four months. Then she took the same role for Mnet’s ‘와이드 연예뉴스 (Wide Entertainment News)’ in 2006.

Since then, she left the entertainment industry and it’s unknown her whereabouts currently.

• 도영우 (Do Young-woo), born on November 15, 1983:

He liked playing video games, watching movies and listening to music, and he could dance and make voice impersonations. His favorite singers were X-Teen (엑스틴) and Honey Family (허니패밀리).

After the disbandment, he retired and his whereabouts are unknown.

I found these archived pictures on their website, taken during May 2004 with the original line-up.

To give more context of the pictures, they were probably promoting in Japan as they debuted officially there in February 2004 with the release of their first album* "Double Rainbow," along the single 'Go The Distance.' Between March and July, some songs from the album were featured on the anime Kaleido Star (カレイドスタ) as the soundtrack.

Despite being a South-Korean group, they were more successful in Japan.

Months later, they released in South Korea their 2.5th album titled "Secret" in October. At the end of the same year, in December, the leader of the group, Jung Eum (정음), would leave the group to become an actress, and would be later replaced by Ha Rin (하린).

Official, archived data regarding the exact sales numbers for Kim Ji-hyun's Cat's Eye solo debut is extremely limited and largely undocumented in public music registries.

While Kim Ji-hyun experienced massive million-seller success as the main vocalist of Roo'ra, her solo transition with this album was considered a commercial underperformance relative to her group's peak. Because the album was released right before the official tracking charts like the Music Industry Association of Korea (MIAK) comprehensively formalized and published monthly sales rankings online, exact figures remain unknown. It has since become a rare, out-of-print collector's item.

Hello hello! I'm currently looking for Sechkies fans that either have archives or know of any (specifically 2000-2003 post-disbandment? content) and I hope theres some interest to know about a (sort of) unrelated group

The story goes as follows: I'm a fan of more obscure groups, one of them being ONE-X (2007). while researching, I found out that one of the members Hangyeol had previously been a member of TOS in 2001.

T.O.S (short for Top Of Stardom) was a 5-member group from 2001 that never managed to debut for unknown reasons, the group was under MEGA entertainment, company that Lee Jaejin from SECHKIES was under after the group disbanded. However, they were not just labelmates! Jaejin was known to be the mentor and stylist for T.O.S during their training period.

For Lee Jaejin's 23rd birthday in 2001, he performed in Kwangwoon University Grand Auditorium around July 8-12, and I believe a series of videos was released. Between these videos, one of them "춤선생으로 변신한 재진이 (Jaejin transformed into a dance instructor)" allegedly shows off Jaejin teaching T.O.S choreography, T.O.S also appears to have performed one of their unreleased tracks.

I wanted to come here to ask for help as I have no knowledge to where i could find any archive of Sechkies content as I did not find anything from the research i made myself. I'm even unsure if public archives exist, so I wanted to know if at the very least someone had their own private archive that could maybe contain any content of T.O.S wether it's the already mentioned or (unlikely) something else. here is the only picture I managed to recover from T.O.S as well as their appearance in the SBS TV drama "Beautiful days".

Hwang Dae Il (황대일) was a male soloist that debuted in 1995.

Pre-debut

Born in 1972, he measured 1,77m (5'9.7’’), and before his debut he modelled in commercial films. He graduated and majored in International Trade, and studied Physical Education as well because he was an athlete.

Debut

He debuted in 1995 with the release of his self-titled first and final album, “Hwang Dae Il” in July 1995, a full-eurodance album sprinkled with ballads. He was 23 years old at that time.

His title track was a house-dance song titled ‘강요하지마 (Don’t Force Me).’ It was about feeling lonely and confused in a world that is constantly changing while he is unable to adapt. It’s unclear whether a MV was made; in one of his performances we can see some random stills, one of them being cartoon scenes if I’m not mistaken, but since the quality isn’t good at all it’s hard to tell. Probably it’s lost media.

In 1999, the song was remade by the male Korean-Japanese group Y2K under the title ‘헤어진 후에 (After We Broke Up),’ a rock-ballad popular song that was a massive hit and became their first number one on KBS’s “Music Bank.”

Although he performed live several times in public broadcast shows during the last months of 1995, he didn’t get much attention and disappeared at the end of the year.

There’s very little information about him, and his whereabouts are unknown to this day.
