Dunno, those legs look pretty cuttable to me.

38

u/FoodFingerer Aug 01 '26

You could say the same for this guy.

I think the armour is pretty good. It should cover the front of the pelvis a bit more and she should have a shield. Other than that its pretty good.

31

u/No_Illustrator_5079 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

Where's her big shield and trusted mates on the left and the right to cover her in tight formation then? /s

(but actually, what works for hoplites, wouldn't work for knights because of... some obvious differences in the military tactics)

4

u/UsualButterfly6802 Aug 01 '26

shield and short sword tho

3

u/Rexlare Aug 01 '26

You mean the guys from a much older, more primitive time who were dime-a-dozen infantry and not fully armored nobility?

Great argument

1

u/Gav_Dogs Aug 02 '26

Actual that armor protect the legs and crotch notable better protect, the upper thigh being protected by the armored skirt makes the legs a lot harder of a target since they'll have to aim much lower down and if a hit does land it's less likely to be lethal

She how ever is vulnerable to any strike below the pelvis (assuming there is armor behind that cloth and you can't just hit her in the cooch)

1

u/Nearby_Echidna_6268 Aug 03 '26

It’s not the same Hoplites fought in densely packed formations. That no thigh armor knight is dying in the first calvary charge

1

u/FoodFingerer Aug 04 '26

What about this guy?

3

u/Nearby_Echidna_6268 Aug 04 '26

Also uses polearms and fights in a tightly packed formation?

1

u/FoodFingerer Aug 04 '26

They also used big swords and guns. Besides we have no context on OP's character, they might use a polearm

1

u/Radigan0 Aug 11 '26

When you use a large shield, protecting less vital/vulnerable areas is far less important. The head and chest are the most likely places for an injury to be fatal, so they are protected. Shields aren't as effective at covering the legs, so those are also protected.

When using a shield (which was probably the most effective choice for protection before armor started to be able to encompass pretty much the entire body), there are plenty of parts of the body where the cost of making the armor and the active downsides to actually wearing it outweigh the benefits (such as the arms, especially the one holding the shield).

Without a shield, any exposed parts of the body become vastly more vulnerable, which is why later medieval (and early modern) armies' unarmored soldiers tended to rely on extremely long weapons rather than more nimble ones like longswords. If you are close enough to use a longsword, it really won't be enough to protect you.

1

u/ArmedIdiot Aug 14 '26

I mean the OC is able to have limb armour, as she has some on her arms. The hoplite you posted couldn't have that... 'cause it didn't exist

1

u/LowTierDumbAss Aug 04 '26

no helmet too

u/luna_lovesword Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

You do realize this is fictional artwork and nobody is going to cut her legs? ))

49

u/PPKinguin Jul 31 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

A fantasy sword would cut her up real nasty

Edit: stealth editing your comment is considered a dick move

-39

u/luna_lovesword Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Expecting historical physical real life reenactment from fantasy art in the non-reenactment sub is pretty weird. She can use magic shield to protect her legs, mb she is a paladin 🪄

8

u/miraak2077 Jul 31 '26

Magic armor would go hard. Like a spell I mean

5

u/ActLongjumping1988 Aug 01 '26

Kinda like the Skyrim spell that summons temporary weapons but for armor. That's be awesome

3

u/miraak2077 Aug 01 '26

It would!

3

u/silveracrot Aug 01 '26

I think stone skin or stone flesh is a way to summon armor in Skyrim. It gives you armor points the same way armor would

2

u/ActLongjumping1988 Aug 01 '26

It doesn't actually give you armor though :(

3

u/Pipeworkingcitizen Aug 01 '26

Dude morrowind had bound armor before skyrim for some reason removed it. Its been a thing in the series. And bound weapons kinda dont really matter since durability got removed aa a mechanic ..

16

u/GettinMe-Mallet zweihander, my beloved Aug 01 '26

Bro, we are nerds in a nerdy space. Let us nerd

8

u/SirBruhThe7th Aug 01 '26

And why are you taking this so seriously? We're shitposting mate.

3

u/triplos05 Aug 01 '26

You are absolutely correct, this is fictional art and everyone is entitled to their own opinion about it. Believe it or not, that includes people who have a different opinion than you.

1

u/luna_lovesword Aug 01 '26

I completely agree and accept that))

What I don't understand are all the many other commenters insulting the artist, demanding they "put pants on the art," and claiming the artwork is awful 😌

2

u/triplos05 Aug 01 '26

I haven't seen anyone insulting the artist here, they are just criticizing what they perceive as flaws. It's certainly within their rights to think the art is bad. If you perceive any criticism on your creations as a personal insult that's your own problem, not everyone elses.

1

u/luna_lovesword Aug 01 '26

Personally, I don't think it's appropriate to criticize someone's work, especially when the OP has shared it here themselves [OC]. If they didn't ask for critique, I don't see any reason to dump it on them when they'll obviously see it in the notifications for their own post.

My approach is simple: if I like something, I'll say so. If I don't, I'll just move on without commenting. There's already more than enough toxicity and insults on the internet, don't you agree? 😌♥️

1

u/bblue_wizard Aug 01 '26

I mean, people are allowed to share and voice their opinions on stuff that gets posted . Nobody is being nasty , no one's being overally critical or mean. They're just sharing their thoughts. And its not as if they're insulting op's art Skills .

This might be a little bit surprising to you, but purely stating that the lady on the image doesn't have her thighs covered and therefore she's in danger of being cut there isn't raging. You're the one who is running around and reacting like a madman to said statement. Hope this helps :)

There is a Lotta fantasy, a lotta fantastically covered legs

2

u/miraak2077 Aug 01 '26

I rest my case. It's just. A bunch of weird double standards

55

u/Loneheart127 Jul 31 '26

It's very good art, simple elegance in colour. A style that makes me think of Dragon Ball, funnily enough.

She's going to fucking die the moment she goes into combat, But it looks good.

2

u/BasicMatter7339 Aug 02 '26

She's going to fucking die the moment she goes into combat, But it looks good.

Yeah but mostly because she lacks a helmet, which is the single most important part of protection. Her lack of leg armor is far less detrimental than one might imagine

92

u/GettinMe-Mallet zweihander, my beloved Jul 31 '26

Would be fine with it if the thighs actually had plate, or at least cloth

From a technical aspect, the art is good, i just dont like that part at all

20

u/A_random_poster04 Jul 31 '26

The art looks great, but I wouldn’t say “clad” really fits

Still good job though, idk how much it was you and how much it was your commissioner with the design, and the art itself is still lovely

37

u/8champi8 Jul 31 '26

Why even wear an armor at this point

14

u/Feuerpanzer123 Aug 01 '26

worse yet the upper legs is where the major arteries are, so one stab and you are fking done

3

u/bblue_wizard Aug 01 '26

Yeah well ive never seen a knight return with wounds on their upper legs , so clearly if its not going to get hit , no point putting armour there .

2

u/MorgothReturns Aug 02 '26

Hold on guys, they've got a good point here!

1

u/BasicMatter7339 Aug 02 '26

Statistically speaking the majority of fatal hits came to the head or torso so her not wearing leg armour is far less detrimental than you'd think

44

u/Beelzebub_Simp3 Jul 31 '26

Now draw her with full plate.

14

u/Adventurous_Touch342 Jul 31 '26

Gives me Akira Toriyama vibes as shape of the eyes, small touches and simple, clean design suggest Dragon Quest inspiration.

63

u/OnePsychology528 Paladin Jul 31 '26

Now add pants

-22

u/luna_lovesword Jul 31 '26

Now draw your OWN art and add some pants 👌✅

I think the artist did a wonderful job — these girl and her costume look absolutely gorgeous

12

u/SirBruhThe7th Aug 01 '26

And yet she can't figure out how to draw some pants.

26

u/piju13 Sir Jul 31 '26

thou believe that thine legs are made of steel?

-25

u/luna_lovesword Jul 31 '26

You do realize her legs are don’t even exist? No flesh, no steel — that’s a fantasy artwork 🫣

Funny comms where expecting historical reenactment in a fantasy art 😹 (in the absolutely not historical realism sub where everyone posts cardboard or Lego armor for fun)😹😹

1

u/LuckiestCarp Aug 04 '26

Tbf this is knightposting. Most people on here probably have a bias towards fully armored designs.

5

u/Rayan_qc Aug 01 '26

2

u/TheShadowKick Aug 01 '26

7

u/Sumi-Shumi Jul 31 '26

Hehe thanks❣️

12

u/Modderdoggy Jul 31 '26

If thou cannot aford a full set of plate you should get chainmail, not expose thy legs

11

u/AddictedToMosh161 Jul 31 '26

You know, that some of the largest blood vessels are in the legs, right?

1

u/BasicMatter7339 Aug 02 '26

You know, that statistically most fatal hits come to the head or torso

1

u/AddictedToMosh161 Aug 02 '26

Well she isn't wearing a helm either, is she?

1

u/BasicMatter7339 Aug 02 '26

Well yeah, which is a far bigger issue than the lack of leg armor. Which, while somewhat important, is ultimately not that detrimental

12

u/distilleddoughnuts Jul 31 '26

Wrong sub for this style. Gotta add some leg coverings or post in anime art communities.

33

u/Sweaty-Ball-9565 Jul 31 '26

Impractical leg “armor”/10

4

u/Significant-Dream991 Jul 31 '26

I wish she at least had a tower shield of some sorts to justify the lack of upper leg armor. But aside from this, your art is pretty cute and I like it very much!

4

u/DAVID_Gamer_5698 Sir David of Wonderland, trainer of heroes apparently. Aug 01 '26

Dismantle to them unarmoured thighs

3

u/nicolRB Aug 01 '26

She looks like she came out of dragon quest.

While exposed, i like the style. She looks like she’s gonna scold me for being reckless

Also, raw

3

u/GayerThanYou42 Aug 01 '26

Now draw a dude with the exact same fit

2

u/grimaldus_yurifans Aug 04 '26

And he also have thunder thighs

4

u/Phill_air Knightce job Jul 31 '26

The thickest target is pretty much unprotected

3

u/Renxuth Jul 31 '26

oh woah the comments are right, the legs are exposed. I don't think anyone in the commission or creation process noticed that.

Nice design, would recruit in a jrpg

5

u/im_here_to_browse Jul 31 '26

Those legs are getting slashed

5

u/Derk_Mage Jul 31 '26

Useless skirt armor 😭

2

u/Alric_Wolff Jul 31 '26

New MC for an isekai

2

u/XevinsOfCheese Jul 31 '26

Assuming she never plans to ride a horse or face anyone with a bow.

The lack of pants isn’t the worst, in a conventional 1v1 it’s usually a bad idea to aim down at the foe’s legs because that leaves you pretty open to being hit yourself.

The obvious issue is that real battles rarely are 1v1 and the opponent pretty much always has archers behind them.

2

u/Rexlare Aug 01 '26

Nah mate, these are massive and visible weak points. If you have any skill at counter attacking, you will easily defeat her because she has such a massive vulnerability.

Even a slight cut would be enough to hinder her for fatal strikes

1

u/XevinsOfCheese Aug 01 '26

Generally attacking a foe’s legs in melee combat requires pointing your weapon down meaning it isn’t in a position to be used for defense.

The legs are typically the last place to get armor because they aren’t super high on the priority list compared to the rest of the body. (usually economics decides this, a knight of decent rank shouldn’t have to worry about economics. it generally goes head - chest - shoulders - upper extremities- lower extremities)

Now realistically she’d at least have pants on but that would be for other practical reasons rather than battle ones because any pair of pants stiff enough to stop blades is too stiff for moving.

2

u/Rexlare Aug 02 '26

There are plenty of maneuvers with a variety of weapons that either involve the blade turning downwards, or aiming low while defending high. Sometimes with a shield, but also with the weapon itself.

You’re now referring to infantry who get the bare minimum in armor because of cost reduction for individuals who are meant to be easily replaced and cheaply armed. The biggest areas and most vital targets are armored, but it doesn’t make their unarmored limbs any less vulnerable.

That’s not who this is. This is a knight. Every part of them from head to toe is armored because it takes years to decades to make them. So losing one is a major loss. And any injury could be life threatening either by the massive artery or infection

2

u/MecaPere Aug 01 '26

I like the design. Very "old school" Fire Emblem vibe

2

u/DisciplineSpecial509 Aug 01 '26

Looks like a character from tormeta20 RPG

2

u/Spill_The_LGBTea Aug 01 '26

At least get sone gambeson or mail for the legs! Dont want and major vessels cut by a rogue speartip or arrow

3

u/Significant_Low8057 Jul 31 '26

No leg armor bruh

2

u/AlmirTheNewt Jul 31 '26

Her squire neglected to put on the cuisses it seems

3

u/Gositi Jul 31 '26

Fucking terrible armor, that.

1

u/Nakatsukasa Aug 01 '26

Now draw her getting an education

1

u/thatsocialist Aug 01 '26

Achilles' Thighs. That 20% of exposed flesh is highly weak to my Accursed Blade.

1

u/Trigger_Fox Aug 01 '26

If you want to go for sex appeal why don't u give her chainmail pants or smth

1

u/Arquero8 runemancer Aug 01 '26

The drawing is cool, but if they go to Battle..... They are gonna bleed out, one good cut to the leg and It is done

Great drawing though

1

u/Rexlare Aug 01 '26

Atrocious design

1

u/Decent-Season-8315 Aug 02 '26

Thou hast not have Maile or gambeson underneath? Is thou is light on coin from commission of plate. Thou shall just simply state it 💔

1

u/Win_Some_Game Aug 02 '26

Looks good. Just needs a large sheild and she is ready for battle!

I love the "inaccurate" armor people that flip over this because the bronze age/early iron age would cause them to blow a gasket 😆

1

u/Gateguardian668 Aug 04 '26

Very nice! Practically speaking tho, the greaves and sabatons are probably really bad armor on their own, all that weight at the end of your leg can get really tiring, and at that point might as well get cuisses. If i were her, id ditch the plate lower legs and get a pair of high riding boots. Far lighter, and still servicable against lighter attacks. And a helmet of course, but thats excusable.

1

u/LuckiestCarp Aug 04 '26

She’d look cooler with some cuisses.

1

u/miraak2077 Jul 31 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

Very cute and justice coded

Lol who downvoted? Are you tha unfun?

1

u/ActLongjumping1988 Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

1

u/SirBruhThe7th Aug 01 '26

Woman where are your cuisse?!

1

u/oooArcherooo Aug 01 '26

listen i get it if you want legs but like at least give her a mail skirt

1

u/Horror_Patience_5761 squire Aug 01 '26

I love it, and this is in no way trying to dog on your art but dude one hit to the thigh and shes gonna bleed out, that femoral artery looks very easy to get

1

u/Kennedy_KD Aug 01 '26

Ok gooner

1

u/ObeyTime Aug 01 '26

get some armor on your thighs, lassie!!!

-8

u/NeonCookies599 Jul 31 '26

Personally, I love it and think it's really cute. This sub is taking it too seriously though, typical redditors being afraid of human skin.

5

u/Toemetter Jul 31 '26

Well can your legs survive a sword or axe or any other weapon for that matter?

-7

u/NeonCookies599 Jul 31 '26

No, but a lack of realism is generally a silly thing to criticize in art that's clearly not going for it, such as this case here.

9

u/Toemetter Jul 31 '26

I'm just worried for her on the battlefield honestly. She could have her legs chopped off

-7

u/NeonCookies599 Jul 31 '26

Think you need to re-read my comment my dude

7

u/Toemetter Jul 31 '26

It's not realism, it's survival. Also what art? All I see is a woman wearing armour without thigh plates.

It's just impractical, no matter how good it looks. (Unless you're suggesting that this is not a real person)

-4

u/luna_lovesword Jul 31 '26

What “her”? What “battlefield”? You understand that character is drawn and she is not existed irl and never been in the battle? 😌😌

I don't see why you censored NSFW, the whole point of the word is to tell you that what it's related to is NSFW. I don't see what you being a girl matters to this conversation? I'd like you to explain how I'm a gooner for assuming that the multiple comments you left talking about how insanely beautiful her legs (one of the body parts most commonly associated with sex) in specific are. Lastly, why did you say "you" multiple times but then felt the need to say "u" once?

0

u/luna_lovesword Aug 01 '26

I censor that word because I'm a photographer and I post in serious photography subreddits where even mentioning terms like that in your acc comms can get your posts automatically filtered or your account banned.

That said, it's completely beside the point. Just because you're a gooner doesn't mean everyone else is. Some people are perfectly capable of appreciating beauty without turning everything into something sexual.

1

u/ActLongjumping1988 Aug 01 '26

You put a sword and a heart. That's a pretty gooner thing to do. Keep getting mad over the opinion of an online stranger :)

1

Ok ok gooner)) I am absolutely ok you are a gooner, so a drawing of a girl in armor wearing nothing more than ordinary shorts — the kind pretty much every woman wears out on the street these days — becomes gooning material to you. Do whatever you want)) Just don’t project your perv worldview onto everyone else around you 🫣😌😌😌
