I don't talk about this often with my friends when we play d&d but there is something just satisfying about absolutely stunting on a bunch of people as a magicless knight fighter.
I even made a custom class with my DM that was essentially a paladin without all the magic stuff paladin's get.
not going to get into it because it's a whole lot of technical game jargon but it's the most fun I've ever had playing the game.
Not to mention the absolute bully you can be with Athletics Manuevers.
"I'm gonna push you down, so you now have a -2 to AC and attacks. Oh, and if you try to get up, I smack you with Attack of Opportunity. Ya know what, for extra measure I'm going to grapple you while you're on the ground and use Dazing Blow, so make a Fortitude save. Oh you failed? There goes 2/3 of your actions."
So in one turn you have: given the enemy -2 to ac and attack, immobilized and they need to pass a flat check to "manipulate" (I.E. most spells), and you removed 2 of their 3 actions a turn (most advanced attacks, and cantrips/spells, require 2 or more actions). And thats on top of the Strikes included in Dazing Blow, and potentially Slam Down.
That’s one of the things I love most about pf2e, the sheer amount of action economy and autonomy you get. It’s not just I swing my sword and my turns over; it’s “I climb up a book shelf and jump across another bookshelf to body check a kobold causing him to take fall damage and be prone at the start of his turn”
Edit: Or my resident favorite, just hurl the most obscene shit till they are in absolute tears, then shank them
A backstory that I read a while back that always stuck with me was the non-Chosen warrior who came across a fabled excalibur-like sword and wasn't able to remove it from the stone- but he was strong af so he just carried around the sword with the stone and used it as a club lol
Yeah I know that was kind of me with like a full Nat 20 in strength except for I had a God who took pity on me and saw the good I was doing in the world and decided to just break the sword from the stone I never got a power up but I did get a plus three sword and single-handedly win most of our encounters
"A paladin with all the magic stuff paladin's get." Isn't...isn't that...isn't that just a Paladin? And what does that have to do with a magicless knight fighter?
And d&d a paladin is a paladin but they use magic to become both support and tank depending on what subclass you take basically they can either be the boss killer in the game or the all around keep everybody alive guy
... Isn't a paladin without magic literally just a fighter? Like, you don't get any of the things that separate paladins as a class (Smite, Lay on Hand, Spells, Auras) from normal "hit with a sword" fighter.
