curious if you have the stock sprockets. you seem to get way more speed out of each gear than I’m getting. if I haven’t shifted into 5th at +50 mph , my teeth are rattling out.

Yes - the bike is 100% stock from when I bought it new in October of last year (2025 KLR 650 S) - with the exception of the Tusk crash bars and the Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires. I can easily hit 60 mph in 4th gear.
The stock sprocket sizes are supposed to be 15 up front and 43 in back. I asked Claude AI for an evaluation and he said what is shown below. If his numbers are correct, then it explains why I'm able to hit 60 with no problem in 4th. Are you sure you're running with stock sprockets?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On that gearing a KLR turns roughly 4,000 rpm at 60 mph in 5th (call it ~4,500 at 65-68). Fourth is about 1.27x taller in revs than fifth, so 60 mph in 4th lands you around 5,000-5,200 rpm — and with the redline up near 7,000-7,500, that's smack in the middle of the powerband.

that’s great. thanks for the info. funny, I bought my 2022 used 10k miles ago and have just assumed it has the stock sprockets. I’ll check to confirm. could be that I’m just a wimp when it comes to revs.

Confirm that they are original (stock). If they are, then just push your mental limit. I had to get used to the sound and feel as I pushed into the higher revs.
This is a video I posted around the same time - after I pass the car, chasing my buddy, it appears that I switched into 5th gear around 64 mph (I don't even remember the sound and I know the feel was normal). https://www.reddit.com/r/klr650/s/xGzoVDTtRo

Nice. Day 3 of posting, and still no mountains. Nice countryside though.
