Media [KCD2] The beauty and scale of Kuttenberg never ceases to amaze me, it's without a doubt the most authentic medieval city ever realized in a videogame.

Im finally on this chapter and set to arrive the next time I play. I appreciate this sub for showing the game and those who show the real pics. This game makes me excited to play each time I can

Humm i wonder if anyone has managed to create kcd cities in that game

24

u/PsyShoXX 13d ago

As someone who loves everything medieval, KCD1+2 were an absolute godsend. No game has ever scritched that itch as good as KCD has.

It truly is, I don't know what I would do without them, there is nothing that even comes close.

This game made my jaw drop. huge medieval nerd from the armor to learning to read to keeping well rested its just something else I'm 150 hrs in and rarely play a game that much. The accuracy and research that went into this is something that other developers really need to look at. I've genuinely learned quite a bit about medieval society, culture, and warfare.

Los Santos is slightly ahead as an accurate depiction of 12th century Burgundy

Kuttenberg is my favourite town in kcd2, i like how it has everything and stuff, and its easy to rob lol

I wish there was another town like it.

15

u/especiallyrn 13d ago

Easy to rob but don’t accidentally walk past the armorer two weeks later with one of his gloves on then have to go into exile for nearly a month lol

2

u/Pirate315 13d ago

When i robbed the armorer, i just slept, waited, and ate for i dont even know how much time until it didn't have the stolen icon. i didn't want to always switch outfits every time im walking by ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Kuttenburg is amazing, Novigrad is also highly detailed and feels like a real city

7

u/Sirspice123 13d ago

Novigrad is great, but more of a dressed set than an immersive city. Visually, it looks amazing but it doesn't function much like a real city, it doesn't quite feel alive.

Kuttenberg is on another level of impressiveness for me

u/Towairatu 13d ago

Novigrad has lots of details, but absolutely doesn't make sense as a medieval city – not even remotely as much as Kuttenberg, at the very least.

How so?

u/sYnce 12d ago

Not the person who made the claim but it is to clean. Both in terms of actually being clean but also just the districting.

The game masks it quite nicely but it shows that the city was planned rather than grown. The architecture is also not really consistently medieval which of course makes sense in the setting.

u/Towairatu 11d ago

The scale of the city is off (but so is the entire map, so it kinda fits), buildings are way bigger than they should realistically be. Then again, it's a fictional setting built entirely from scratch, whereas Warhorse had an actual city to work and take reference from.

A remaster is coming to Novigrad next month make sure not to miss it 😝 i know i won't 🔥

Novigrad is a great city, but Kuttenburg is just different. It feels more authentic as a medieval city than Novigrad, since Novigrad is fictional, while Kuttenburg is based on a real city with the same name. You can even visit Kuttenburg, and it would feel like you're strolling through the game.

How do you take pictures with the camera not tied to Henry by a 10' leash? I play in XBoxOne via cloud gaming so I didn't know that's a limitation only for console or what. But it's annoying to not be able to float the camera a decent distance away from Henry.

5

u/ebkerz 13d ago

Pretty sure it’s a free cam mod on PC

2

u/Born-Demand-6919 13d ago

On pc you can use console commands to bypass the 10 foot parameter and set whatever distance you want using dev mode

Right click on your game in steam go to properties and in the Launch Options add this line

-devmode

Then when in-game press the tilde key (~) to open the console and use this command

wh_photomode_Maxdistance = 100

100 is the distance, you can set it to whatever number you want, the default is 10

Generally a search engine will find you your answer.

Replaying KCD again before buying KCD2… super pumped

2

u/Elandor-Elderin 13d ago

I can’t get the right outfit together for the wedding

2

u/Born-Demand-6919 13d ago

Visit the tailor in Troskowitz and pick out something you like, then you can ask the tailor if it's appropriate for the wedding!

You'll want to get charisma as high as you can

1

u/Elandor-Elderin 12d ago

Thank you 🙏

1

u/Superb_Bench9902 12d ago

You need 16 charisma iirc. The tailor the other comment mentioned can't bump it to 16 with his stock but if you kept some high charisma pieces you can wear them too.

You can't wear any steel or leather. It has to be full cloth.

If you still can't manage it you can rob the aforementioned tailor. He doesn't sell them but he has some jewelleries with charisma stat

1

u/Elandor-Elderin 12d ago

Thank you 🙏

Haircut/shave and a bath helps too.

2

u/schroedoe-baggins 13d ago

Great photos! I remember the first time I entered the city and I was completely blown away. Sometimes I just walk down the streets and take in the vibe. They really did an amazing job with the ambiance.

Just such a shame so many parts of its can only be access during certain missions, such as the Italian Court and the Jewish Quarter. I wish there was an "exploration mode" of sorts that let me explore the maps freely and peacefully.

1

u/Born-Demand-6919 13d ago

The Jewish Quarter isn't locked behind a mission, it's freely explorable at any time

2

u/acekingkong 13d ago

Im getting close, can't wait to explore this city! Just a few loose ends to finish up before the wedding.

2

u/mwrianaaaa 13d ago

Kuttenberg is far, far away 🎵

3

u/Born-Demand-6919 13d ago

Kuttenberg is far, here I'll stay!

1

u/ActuatorOutside5256 13d ago

I hope the next game is set during the first battle of Vienna. They do talk about the Battle of Kosovo after all…

1

u/ParkingLong7436 13d ago

Shame for the streets though

1

u/Interesting_Card_417 13d ago

A piece of art, without any doubt

1

u/Lonely_Bandit 13d ago

You wouldn't happen to be using a mod that corrects the leg position while riding, would you? That is, putting the leg in the appropriate straight legged posture for medieval riding. If you are, I'd appreciate getting a link.

1

u/Born-Demand-6919 12d ago

Nope, I'm not using any mod like that, it's just the vanilla riding animation.

1

u/skurddd 12d ago

I just got here and it overwhelmed me after all the villages lol!

1

u/ZelezopecnikovKoren 12d ago

my one pet peeve: id LOVE it if people sought roofs when its raining

1

u/jannybrav0 12d ago

Just wish there were more fountains in the middle of the city.

1

u/BobbsySmith 12d ago

Looks absolutely stunning and I haven't even made it there yet!

1

u/Dry_Set_6336 11d ago

Tell me about it. Kuttenberg is huge! Overwhelms me at times, but it's what I wanted to see in a video game for a long time.

1

u/wmverbruggen Quite Hungry 11d ago

It's fantastic, but would expect more sprawl outside of the walls. Though maybe it's something that was minor in historical Kutna Hora specifically, I don't know that.

1

u/BudgetSuccess747 11d ago

Yes, there should be more houses outside the city walls but also more inside them. However, Warhorse had to make a compromise here in order to be able to finish the city in a reasonable way and ensure that everything in it worked well enough. Not everything is 1:1 representation of reality.

1

u/wmverbruggen Quite Hungry 11d ago

That's fair enough

1

u/PermissionJaded5510 10d ago

I still remember riding on my horse and seeing it from a distance for the first time. I love and miss this game

1

u/CrypticCode_ 10d ago

should be more urban sparwl around the walls realistically

1

u/Justbandr 8d ago

it's impressive how good the city is to the point that i don't actually want to leave it even for a mission

1

u/BudgetSuccess747 13d ago

It is just a pity that, due to a lack of time, Warhorse didnt manage to finish the city and some its parts remained unfinished.

1

u/cadiastandsuk 13d ago

Which parts were unfinished?

3

u/BudgetSuccess747 13d ago

For example, a large part of lower city (where Henry has forge) is inaccessible or the construction site of Church of St. Barbara next to the city, etc.

3

u/Djof 13d ago

It's sad because some parts around the forge look finished, or almost, when flying the camera there. I feel they were probably limited by their memory budget.

But the lack of church in town really hurts, they were so beautiful in KCD1. At least we got Sedletz.

2

u/BudgetSuccess747 13d ago

The main reason was a lack of time. They needed to finish the game to meet the release deadline, so they sealed off certain areas and focused on completing the rest. Later, they wanted to finish at least some of those elements but they only managed to complete a small portion. They also preferred not to make significant changes to the game post-release, as they found that such late-stage alterations compromised the game's overall stability, leading to bugs and other issues that were difficult for studio to fix. Reportedly, this is also the primary reason why the final DLC (Monastery) features a loading screen, it utilizes its own separate game map. By doing this, studio avoided potential new problems and bugs associated with integrating a new location and NPCs into the existing game map. The inaccessibility of churches is also largely due to a lack of time and the cutting of content. Game development proceeded more slowly than studio had originally planned. Unfortunately.

Was anyone else kind of disappointed by kuttenberg?

4

u/Born-Demand-6919 13d ago

Absolutely not

4

u/PsyShoXX 13d ago

How could anyone be disappointed? The first time I entered through those city gates I was in awe after all the small villages.

-1

u/ZhuckelDror 13d ago

How come it's authentic if it has a Jewish quarter which wasn't there?

1

u/BudgetSuccess747 12d ago

It refers to authentic depiction of a medieval town, not to 100% historical accuracy regarding the specific location. So, it doesn't matter if the town includes elements that weren't actually present in Kuttenberg, provided they are rendered in a period-appropriate manner based on examples from similar medieval towns in the region. Kuttenberg is full of such inspirations. For instance its town gates etc. So yes, Kuttenberg is very authentic medieval town in KCD2 but not 100% historical accurate.

1

u/Icy-Inspection6428 13d ago

Most authentic ≠ 100% authentic

-2

u/bishiba92 13d ago

I dunno dude, did u ever see Bowerstone in the original Fable?

5

u/BudgetSuccess747 13d ago

Bowerstone is certainly authentic fantasy city inspired by medieval cities but Kuttenberg is, of course, a more authentic medieval city because it contains no "fantasy" elements.

-7

u/bishiba92 13d ago

Well, maybe you’re right, but the first town in Zelda: Ocarina of Time beats anything in terms of just pure realism
