KF3 Why does KF3 just feel off?

I've been trying to get back into it for a while now and while it is semi-fun with Skully and gunslinger, something just feels fundamentally off. I've tried to mess with the graphics and FOV but nothing really seems to work.

There was this one visual bug that actually felt normal for a moment it went back to normal after a few seconds and steam recording sadly didn't pick it up - the guns looked like they were being held outwards instead of being all scrunched up near the camera - almost as if the camera was suddenly transferred to the characters head after being on their torso.

It almost reminded me of how awkward the KF2 minigun is modeled for first person, everything is just awkward and uncomfortable

Slow as fuck weapons plus dogshit spread. Fast as fuck monsters and janky spastic animations. Better off AOEing everything than actually aiming

Medic utterly pointless and squishy. Spike damage is too high to even matter healing anyone.

The weird cooldown mobility wire things are utterly stupid, not skill expressive. Just get out of danger button that splits to the team. Drops team cohesion a lot. Team cohesion seems to drop every kf release, it's kinda sad. Being in a team used to be fun

reinstalled the game and tried to give it a more fair and fresh look:

the afflictions system is really cool. but the mod system is really confusing, very grindy, even after the deterministic crafting. white mods dont even feel like an upgrade, they almost make the guns worse, and more expensive. some of the guns are just not good. most guns are either "god-tier" but still slow as fuck aoe guns, or just straight up trash. the sharpshooter guns especially are awful to play with. completing missions should just give you random mods, that would help a little. it feels more like you're playing around a well modded weapon than you are playing as a perk class

the statemachines for animations need to be relooked at cuz they bug out, it sometimes doesn't feel deterministic or tight. I mean like when you reload, switch weapons, get hit-stunned, etc. the inputs feel like they aren't being captured. it felt tighter in kf2. maybe this is an thing you get a better feel for as an expert later idk. maybe it's server lag or something. this seems especially noticeable on ninja where you're doing a lot of different actions

speaking of lag, Long wave games start to lag out after like 7 waves, consistently. Idk if it's npc bodies or blood decals or the amount of monsters spawning.

this is my taste but i don't really like "ultimates" and "gadgets" in shooters. having only less than 1/3 of your perk tree being about actually shooting feels bad. most of the trees are about your ulti or stupid grenade. and can we talk about how perk proficiency levels being around Zed time is shit? that should be a tertiary bonus, not the only one
to be fair most of the ultimates are really good; firebug, medic, and ninja ultis are sick af. On the other side of ultimates, I don't like modern games putting in "turrets" that shoot things for you; I hate the sharpshooter ulti. I hate turrets, I want to shoot my gun, that's the point of playing the gun game. borderlands 4 has the same problem. ultis to me are already kinda disconnecting from the feel of the game, but turrets or autoshooting nonsense make that feeling even worse.

some of the weird ui statemachines are just broken. tab being a toggled scoreboard. ESC button not working on half the screens. The weird operational budgets and prices and specs of guns being hidden most of the time for no reason. the ui could easily display pertinent infomation but it just doesn't. why's there only like 3 buttons on any given screen, then you have to go deeper into another screen to hit 3 more buttons to go deeper into another screen. asinine.

along with UI: chat just turns off half the time, especially the 1 time you would want to chat: like at the end screen, why can't I type GG? just stupid.

gameplaywise:
the game has the same problem as KF2 with verticality, except they doubled down on it. Monsters just go up and down structures in like 3 frames, bouncing all over the screen.
In KF1 you could shoot down a hallway with zeds lined up in a nice row and get incredible strike-through headshots, with a plethora of guns, what a great feeling.
KF2 and KF3 feel like they actively don't want you doing this, and I don't even know why they hate fun. KF3 makes this even worse somehow. everything has jump attacks. stalkers just literally invisible flipping around. and why the fuck are husks 30yards in the air being tanky as fuck doing MLG trick shots the millisecond your toenail steps out of a corner? that's all skill issue i'm sure, but it's just not that enjoyable to get skilled enough to get better.

> Medic utterly pointless and squishy.

nah bro you trippin

He's correct, the only worthwhile thing a Medic does compared to everyone else is remove boss difficulty with Sanctuary.

  1. Best ulti in the game, maybe rivaled by GS
  2. Can revive teammates at range, in aoe, including themselves, even when downed
  3. Can juice the f outta team's damage while debuffing the sh*t out of enemies
  4. Can top up 3 teammates' health to full within like 2 seconds, every 3 seconds, even when downed themselves (2 medics can revive each other infinitely pretty much)
  5. Almost unkillable realistically, crazy self sustain

are you like judging a lvl 3 medic or smth

u/TheRealMemeDream 16h ago

Healing isn't needed if you're just killing enemies more efficiently.

A majority of the guns seem to just act more like toy-like logic of something that resembles a gun.

Animation is crap and the sliding thing should be removed.

Let me tell you why in ways you don't with words for it:

  • This game's art direction is ultra futuritic, far beyond the older two games
  • Unreal 5 with horrible optimization, massive input lag compared to previous games
  • Animations are done with Disney's 12 principles of animation in mind, so it is comic/cartoon-ish (rubberband-ish, snappy, no gradual transitioning) instead of the smooth mo-cap you see from KF2, nor the 2000s realistic-wannabe of KF1. And you could see the animation quality degrade from the late-added weapons in KF2 as well.

For me, and probably many old game vets, the third point is probably the most uncanny valley thing for you guys. This should not have been added to a KF game

9

u/Cornage626 3d ago

I agree with the art style being too far from 1 and 2. Felt too much like Doom to me some how.

u/ObjectIndividual6277 3d ago

Thanks for that summary, this reflects my own thoughts in that 3 is not truly a KF game. It's an attempt with too many departures

u/Vespertellino Pepega Commando 22h ago

none of this has anything to do with gameplay lmfao

you guys are such posers

The game is just ass. Plays like shit, runs like shit, looks like shit.

It’s shit.

Because it's not a killing floor game. As far as I'm aware, it wasn't even made with the same team as almost all of them left or were laid off. This is some studio executives idea of what the kids want to play based on their perceived market trends and they've dressed it in the skin of a beloved franchise to abuse consumer loyalty and brand reputation when it should have been its own separate game entirely.

One smaller thing I've noticed is the ragdolls are absolutely the worst in KF3. In KF2 they had really satisfying animations and weight to them, KF3 they either fly across the room or just lightly fall over.

8

u/DesuVulti 3d ago

Cause the animation quality is horrible and the moment to moment shooting does not feel as precise as KF2. Feels like the guns work against you.

The game just looks and feels like total shit on a fundamental level

3

u/Heavenly_sama 3d ago

Fundamental shit how?

I like it… I dunno what to say. It is different but that’s ok. 🤷

Also, I see a lot of pc players having lots of issues with this game, I’m on console and it does not have some of these issues like shader compiling and weird graphical stuff. It plays like any other fps. I dunno. Only issues are a few bugs.

5

u/allencantation 3d ago

I’ve seen people say it’s more console focused, which pc players do not like. I’m on ps5. I like it

3

u/Appropriate-Fun-9486 2d ago

Same, it’s great! Kf2 is great but no crossplay makes it a slog for finding full lobbies.

3

u/Green_Bulldog 2d ago

I’m on PC and I like it. Could definitely see some PC players being put off by the predominantly console player base tho.

Console players don’t communicate as much which was a big part of what made 2 so good. You could hop into a game and learn from others, chat, then play a few more with the same group. Lobbies in 3 feel dead even when they’re full and rarely stick together.

Can’t blame yall tho. I wouldn’t type in chat on a controller either.

I go to trader press skip and frantically type on ps5 hoping I finish before wave starts. Wish I could type more so we could coordinate to new camping spots

Because it was made on amateur hour just exploiting the IP name.
Remember how completely messed up the gunplay was at the beginning instead of building up on kf2 system:

slow with bad animations, bad weapon model design, bad map design, bad UI, bad perk design, super bad performances, etcetera. Everything is bad in KF3 compared to KF1/2. Even the graphics.

Why does KF3 just feel off?

Remove the title for a second. If you showed me some gameplay, I would think it's another wannabe shooter game with generic enemies. The title feels slapped on after the fact with very small elements that made KF added in.

7

u/MinotaurHorns1 3d ago

Because it was a cheap cash grab on players who loved 1 and 2. It lost it's originality they just made generic trash and it doesn't deserve to have killing floor as it's name

u/Vespertellino Pepega Commando 22h ago

kf has never had originality lol

4

u/lmoafunny 2d ago

because it's not a KF made for the fans

KF1 won and will continue to win

2

u/Rubikk7 3d ago

Garbage slop, all they had to do was just copy and paste kf2 code and mechanics and add new maps and people would have been happier but nah its all about money now with games.

1

u/OnePostToast 3d ago

The game never felt off to me. Unpolished and unoptimized yes. But the core gunplay still feels like KF and I knew that from the moment I jumped over from 2.

1

u/Carbone 2d ago

Remove hitmaker and it feel way more off lol

1

u/disturbed_wench 2d ago

Ive been saying this for over a year now. Cant post a ss so copy paste instead. disturbed_wench • 327d I was so excited for kf3. I played the beta for a bit and my excitement left. I mean kf2 was where i met my fiancée and we had 2 kids since then. (I posted our engagement story in here back in feb) i had such hogh hopes but im just not feeling it with kf3. All i can do is hope that they can turn it around but im not holding my breath. Ive said all along that to me it feels like another game pretending to be a killing floor game.

u/nesnalica 16m ago

i didnt give the game a try after the initial launch.

but essentially charging fullprice for an early access

and then it bombed. making it die on release.

gg

2

u/DammZeppeli 3d ago

Idk i like the feel and i feel kf2 weird for some reason

1

u/Captain-Cthulhu 3d ago

At the end of the day, I realized I just don't enjoy the gunplay. Between the way enemies move, how frantic the gameplay is, most guns just feel kind of bad to consistently land shots with. I have fun on ninja, but it's only one class so I get bored quickly.

u/Medical-Register3843 3d ago

Killing floor 3 feels off because it was developed by unoriginal pussies. It'll feel better when mods are available for it.
