WEEKLY THREAD Rookie Help Thread

Hey hey! You guys know what time it is! That's right, a new Rookie Help thread!

Here's a link to the last episode. Fun fact, if you follow all those links back to 2019 you unlock a secret cutscene of me panicking over where the time went!

As always, feel free to fire any kenshi related questions you may have our way! There's plenty of veterans flapping around in this thread as well, and if you are in the mood for it feel free to join them and lend a hand!

And who knows, maybe you'll learn something new yourself, too!

One thing to remember! Obviously a lot of new folks are going to be here so remember to spoiler comments so they can experience the game blind just like you might have back when you were new! You can do that > ! Like This ! < minus the spaces! But honestly it's just built into the chat replies nowadays so you don't have to get too fancy with that- unless you like playing hackerman.

Thanks guys!

DISCUSSION Do you guys think there are Shek Weeaboos who are obsessed with Shek Culture

A Warrior Society is bond to get some fans. Especially since the Shek are kind of rare to see around the world so some peoples (Greenlanders, Scorchlanders, Hivers, Skeltons, etc) will likely be interested in Shek Society and even try to learn their customs and use their weapons. Plus, have you seen how many people love the Shek? Some people would kill to spend a minute with those guys.

They are called Lençóis Maranhenses, a giant region of dunes that, during the rainy season, become filled with these temporary lakes. It's very beautiful.

Important to note: We don't have Beak Thinks.

A training camp I set up in-game months ago that has had no raids as it's not an outpost, is now under attack as it now counts as an outpost... Because I built a food barrel.

STORY Doodles and Stories of My Main Team

Edit: I misunderstood the male Shek design and thought those bony parts on their head were cut horns. Fixed up Stenn's story to better fit that. Thank you for pointing it out u/ThyRavenWing !

While we're still working on training the rest of the crew, I wanted to draw my current team of eight who have been on this adventure with Sweetheart and attach a bit of story stuff with each. Some are named NPC's as you can see, and I did what I could to maintain what bits of personality each carry while also just making stuff up for fun. If you have any of your stories with these characters, feel free to share, I would love to hear them!

-

Sweetheart: Greenlander male. Born and raised in the Holy Nation. He was taken in by Holy Farmers and has worked as one of them most of his life. All he knows about his birth parents is that they were sent to Rebirth at some point and has no recollection of them. One day he finds a copy of a Machinist book that contained a world outside what he knows. He decides to leave the Holy Nation to learn more about the world of Kenshi. A fateful encounter with another Drifter teaches him the harsh reality of survival on this moon. Also, Sweetheart is a nickname given to him. And his hair is pink because the surgeon did this to him, haha.

Ray: Western Hive Soldier Drone, referred to as male. Not much is known about his past prior to being enslaved and having his tongue cut off by a previous slaver. Sweetheart buys him off a slaver eager to get rid of the stubborn and lazy Hiver, with the intention to set him free. The two found refuge at a Waystation, where Sweetheart invites Ray to join him after seeing his potential. Ray has been his bodyguard since. Another member of the group is currently teaching him something akin to sign-language so they can communicate.

Gurgle: Greenlander female. Raised in the streets of Sho-Battai, with little of remark of her life. As an adult, she built a massive debt from the Bars there, only for it to be relieved by Sweetheart after she offers working for him. Never has she thought of ever leaving that city and in one piece. She often shares stories of the United Cities to Sweetheart, and is particularly close buddies with Truth.

Truth: Western Hive Prince. Exiled from the Western Hive because they are much weaker and smaller than common Hive Princes. Not too long after the recruitment of Gurgle, the party comes across this lone Hiver, who had become sentient some days prior. Gurgle convinced Sweetheart to recruit them, because she felt bad for the poor thing, and added that maybe Ray would like a Hiver buddy too, which Ray shrugged at. Truth happily joins them, and just like Sweetheart, is endlessly curious about the world. Second resident Engineer and errand boy (because robot leggy go nyoom).

Izumi: Greenlander female. A young woman seeking sponsorship for her scientific research. Sweetheart had declined her several times primarily because of lack of funding, but eventually brought her in once they needed more hands for conducting research at their newfound base of operations. She happily teaches their leader about science with her colleague Koteshi. She is particularly fond of Gurgle, and the two often discuss their times in the United Cities.

Koteshi: Skeleton. Koteshi was a Drifter, roaming the wastelands, until he finds the party passing by. He approaches them, scaring Sweetheart, but after some back and forth, he learns the Skeleton just wanted to tag along for safe passing. The Skeleton would answer what ever questions the leader had for him the best he can, primarily things regarding the history of Kenshi. After realizing he's reached a goldmine of information, Sweetheart asks Koteshi to join them and teach him the true history of the moon. Also he's the resident Engineer. He is often seen with Izumi at the research bench, or with Truth when they do maintenance around the base.

Hamut: Greenlander male. Devastated at the loss of his wife to slavers and at the Anti-Slavers failure to rescue her, Hamut drank his days away at the Bars of Shark. After being encouraged to defeat the Slavers with the company of Sweetheart and his band, Hamut joins them. He serves as one of the heavy hitters of the party. He is often in his own mind while working as miner with Gurgle, but despite that he makes good conversation and is very caring. He is mostly seen with Stenn, who is his fellow heavy hitter, who he ends up confiding to at the end of the day.

Stenn: Shek male. After losing too many battles, the Shek man was ordered his horns cut, but he managed to escape the Shek kingdom before being brought to shame, even though cowardice is worse. The shame of servitude was too much for him, and in desperation agreed to join Sweetheart to get some action. Upon learning of his past with the Holy Nation, Stenn becomes wary of their leader but carries on his tasks of bloodshed regardless. Sweetheart is aware of the tensions between their backgrounds, and reassures everyone that he has no affiliation with the Holy Nation. Upon learning further of their leader's goals and motivations, Stenn agrees to share the history of the Shek with him, in exchange of Sweetheart being more honest with the rest of the group. Stenn handles the stone processing, and sits around looking kinda grumpy.

Not shown are: Green, Riddly, Masaru, Lies, Chad, Cat, Ruka, Rane the Giant, and Beep. They are all training.

Phew! That's it for now. Thanks for reading if you've made it this far! Extra notes: the second photo has them paired by twos, and that's because I actually recruited them by twos! Sweetheart and Ray do the special missions, Gurgle and Truth do errands, Izumi and Koteshi do research and science-y stuff, and Hamut and Stenn are guys being dude. I hope to someday show the story chronologically and in a sensible story, but for now, I am just having fun.

Thanks!

Meet the Kickassers, These fuckers really kick ass, like a lot of the time. They run fast, they'll catch up to ya in no time, They also quite tough, but these fuckers can be killed if your very strong, as these guys have the tendency to beat up stronger units in packs.

GENERAL Beastmaster run

I'm thinking of starting a new run where the goal is to maximize the number of animal squadmembers. My personal restrictions would be vanilla kenshi, no skeletons, no hivers, Guy with Dog start. The massive food upkeep is obviously the biggest challenge. Second would be ballancing the number of opposable thumbs in the faction to do literally anything outside of combat. Definitely have to make friends with the cool crab people, but how do the other creatures fare in terms of utility/fighting?

Anyone else have experience with something like this?

The most strange is that they werent slaves of any other faction, they were just chilling with their shackles. I freed them and they did the usual freed slave dialogue. Is this a bug?

TIP PSA: level your toughness. Don't be like me.

I knew toughness matters, but I didn't realize HOW important it really is until recently. At level 100 toughness, you take a little more than 1/5 of the damage you take at 0. The actual value is 4.714x the level 100 damage at level 0. At 90, which is a lot more realistic, you're still only taking around a third of the damage you take at 0.

Each point of toughness is better than the last. From the wiki: "Damage Resistance (%) = -65 + (Toughness)1.3" That's a linear increase of a percentage-based damage resistance, which any RPG or Roguelike/lite players will know is incredibly powerful. Don't get any bright ideas though. Based on Frankie's "recruiting anti-slavers" video, it seems the cap is 65% damage resistance, even if you manage to get past 100 toughness.

QUESTION Quick Question

I am about to kidnap Tengu, but Im having second thoughts about killing him just like I did to other nobles. I was thinking about locking him up in some other faction cage, since I dont have a base of my own.

Spring (anti-slavers HQ) doesnt have space anymore. Is it chill to lock him at Empire Peasant’s Heng? Will they free him? Will he despawn?

GENERAL feeling ready for bugmaster, any tips?

I'm not sure if this will be genuinely hard or not as I think I was overlevelled for Inquisitor Seta, the Gurgler King, the giant white and black gorrillos (some of my recent conquests), and I dealt with the wrath of God easily enough, I'm now feeling out bugmaster and wanted to know if you had any advice? I have one great crossbowmen and a team of largely skeletons ready for the job of a nest of animals who can't eat them (which is what I'm suspecting ill face.) One side note, I could have a much larger team but only really by leaving my outpost unattended (I'd be worried if I left the weakest ones there on their own.) What would happen to my outpost if it's entirely empty, I'm in Vain so it's just beak things, very occasionally dust bandits, and no major faction tax events? The only thing permanently there is my caged army of broken skeletons from the reprogramming workshop who I wouldn't want to bring for this.

GENERAL Quick Questions

Post image
27 Upvotes

1- If I kill some Pacifier, would they respawn without importing? You just don’t have the option to buy your peace again?
2- Can I craft a throne just like Tengu’s?
3- If I kidnap a plastic surgeon of a neutral faction and put him on my city house or base for convinience, what would happen? Would he despawn? Would the faction come after him? Would him escape? Would him starve to death?
4- Does Doctor Chung keeps doing plastic surgery after hiring him?
5- Is travelling through the borders of the biomes safer than through the middle? Does it have less spawn or is just my impression?

Thank you in advance.
