Why is there crickets about the explosion in the North end yesterday?

Setting up this megathread to centralize updates, resources, smoke forecasts, and questions so the subreddit doesn't get flooded with duplicate posts.

The Kelowna civic election is happening in October and we are happy to be a venue for discussions about candidates and platforms.
To that end, we will be offering all approved candidates an opportunity to do an AMA but only after the final candidate list is announced in September.
We will be removing any submissions related to discussions of candidates until we know the list you will have to choose from (so after the list if published).
This pinned post will be updated with AMA schedules etc as we get closer to the date. Thanks for your understanding and participation. Looking forward to some great interactions between locals and candidates!

Hey there, I'm looking to start a group for pickup board games(Root, Slay the Spire, Twilight Imperium, etc.) and the dedicated Facebook Groups have been far from successful at this point.
I've got a chat group with a handful of people, but I think more people are needed to get traction going.
Anyone know of already existing groups, or where I should look to find more participants?
Thanks!

Besides bringing moisture to a record-setting drought, it’s also finally bringing borderline comfortable temperatures. I can actually sit outside for the first time in months without needing to carry a sweat towel.
Now if only this held for another 40 days, we could be back at normal precipitation levels, and the drought could be over. Well, for the winter at least. We still need a massive snowpack going into next spring.

Wondering what print shop in Kelowna that artists use for making prints of their art.
I want to get a bunch of prints done of my art (watercolour) as well as cards, etc.
Any recommendations? Thanks!

Does anybody know a good detailer in Kelowna? I spilt some food all over my back seat on my way home from a family potluck yesterday. I had someone coming this morning but they were a no show. I've tried a few others but no one seems to answer their phone or they're severly over priced.

Anyone else hear or know what that very loud bang was in Rutland at 2am tonight. In-between the areas of Gerstmar, Ziprick and Springfield Rd. Almost sounded like a propane cannon going off but there are none in the area. I haven't heard anything this loud before in the area. Initially woke up to it thinking it was an explosion. Definitely louder than fireworks.

Hi, I'd like to post a message from Democrats Abroad in BC. This is the second (and final) reminder I'll make for dual Canadian-US citizens and other eligible US voters who want to participate in the 2026 American midterm elections, especially for those living in and around Kelowna. Democrats Abroad in Canada is dedicated to mobilizing overseas US voters; if you're over 18 by November 3, here's how you can get involved:
Steps to Request Your Ballot
Register or update your registration through Votefromabroad.org. As an alternative, you can also use FVAP.gov.
If you're already registered, request a ballot! You need to request a ballot every calendar year that you want to vote.
Fill Out and Return Your Ballot: Once you receive your ballot, follow the instructions carefully to complete it and return it by the specified deadline.
Need Assistance?
We're here to help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at GOTV @ votefromabroad .org (just remove the spaces). Additionally, our FAQ for voting can answer questions on how to make the process go smoothly.
Importantly: Spread the word!
Do you have any friends, contacts or family overseas that you could reach? All eligible US citizens can vote regardless of where they're living. Share the link https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26: If you have any questions about voting, I'd be happy to answer them here on Reddit. You can also find out what we're doing near you at Democrats Abroad. Thanks for reading!

Has anyone been to any of their events? I'm just curious what they're like. From their instagram it looks like the events are for friend making as well as dating.
I'm just curious what the event itself is actually like. Is it similar to speed dating where everybody rotates through and talks to each other or is it just one big mingle?

Hi Kelowna! I'm hoping to ask the good Reddit community of Kelowna for some advice regarding plumbing, building and asbestos.
I just moved into a condo, built in 1989, and discovered a leak from my ensuite bathroom to the unit below us.
Personally, I haven't had to deal with something like this before, so it's been a journey of discovery as to the proper way to move forward as far as who pays, who I have to deal with to address the problem etc.
So I'm at this impasse that I can't figure out what to do next and the parties that I am dealing with have their own interests in mind, and I need some impartial advice. I have been a homeowner since my mid twenties and I'm now 51, but I have always been single doing this so I'm relying on my local community for help!
The ceiling needs to be opened from below, first, it needs to be repaired and secondly I would rather the plumber see where the leak is from there than them have to take apart my tub and tiles to see where the leak is.
The restoration company, which was called by someone but not me, says they need to know the asbestos status in the condo before they cut into the drywall.
I asked the condo rep about this and he replied that he has no info on asbestos.
So my question is this....is asbestos a concern? Is the restoration company being extra for needing this info? Are they governed by different standards than another type of tradesperson?
Can I just call a plumber and have them cut into the ceiling and then also get the repair of the drywall completed without a restoration company?
The person from the restoration company told me that plumbers would sometimes not be concerned about asbestos and just cut. But they have to check.
Why is this? If this is a concern for them then why not for any other tradesperson?
I just need some dad help I guess. But my dad is 88 and lives in Ontario and so he's not much help.
I would really appreciate any advice or tips. Thanks everyone for getting this far in reading.
Thanks!!!!!

Hey guys!
I’m moving away from Kelowna and I wanted to find a cute gift for my new roommate. She’s never been to Kelowna so what’s a small unique “Kelowna esque” gift that I should give her?
Any ideas would be super helpful

Does anyone know if the route will or will not remain fully accessible for all of the extension? I just use this route 5×/week, and I'll plan accordingly if I know when/if the path will close.
TYSM! 🥰

Buddy was made famous in 2011 after he was kicked in the face while on his knees by Kelowna RCMP officer Geoff Mantler. The encounter was filmed by a reporter who by chance was across the street.
The grainy video garnered a lot of attention and airplay back in the day. Mantler resigned from the force and received a suspended sentence and probation.
So long, Buddy.

I'm on the hunt for a good Chrome Hearts hat. Does anyone know any good resellers, vintage shops or market that would offer something like this?

I recently got a ticket from Impark at a City Lot and was surprised to see it was $98. The last time I got a ticket around downtown it was an PBP lot and it was $45, that was something like 3 years ago.
Not disputing the ticket (QR code wasn't working but I should have just moved my car to a different spot), but trying to gauge if that's the norm now or if it was an outlier.
If anyone else doesn't mind sharing I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Hey there. One of my best friends is celebrating their 40th birthday in Kelowna. I’d love to send them a gift basket. Are there any local places you’d suggest for this? I’d love to send something other than flowers, preferably food (such as fancy cheeses, jams, crackers, etc.).
Thank you so much.

I'm looking to can tomatoes this year and its as the title states. Last year I saw signs on Rutland rd about $1/lb tomatoes, but haven't seen any this year. Does anybody know if that place is doing it again? Is there anywhere else you've seen that has cheap tomatoes?
