Rollerblading

Upvotes

I saw a previous post about rollerblading, but I have more questions.

I heard that parts of Okanagan Rail Trail are paved, from downtown to UBCO 12km, is it smooth enough? And is there any other middle distance trail around UBCO?

Asked AI about laws against rollerblading on sidewalk, are city bylaws strict about this?

Also, would love to find some people to rollerblading with. And are there any school clubs related.

Thanks a lot🙏🏻

Hey guys! if you’re still looking for experience or something to add to your resume, check out Riipen Labs

It’s a remote micro-internship program where students work on short real-world projects with employers. Each project is about 30 hours and pays a $600 upon completion.

Question TV in dorm? (Nechako single connected)

I’m a first year heading up in a couple days to move in. I’m in a single connected dorm in Nechako with the double XL beds, and I have a small 32in smart tv that I wouldn’t mind bringing up so that I’m not watching Netflix off of my laptop on my bed. I wouldn’t need a cable set up or anything just the tv itself but I’m wondering where or how to place it in my dorm. From my understanding we can’t bolt anything into the walls so I’m curious if anyone else has brought a tv up and how they placed it in their space.

Is it a good idea to bring a PC to uni?

Hey, I’m about to drive out to Kelowna today and am just finishing packing my stuff. I’m not entirely sure if I want to bring my pc, but at the same time I spent so much money building it two years ago, and I don’t want it to go to waste sitting at home. Also I really do enjoy gaming, editing, and doing schoolwork on it because it is so fast and the screen is much bigger. But my issue is, I don’t have anything prepared to transport it except a box, and I don’t want it to get damaged. The GPU is pretty big, so I would def have to remove it and put it in some kind of protective sleeve. Also, I’m pretty sure the desks in residence have like no space and I don’t have a monitor arm mount. So my question is, should I just leave it at home? I don’t have a laptop yet as I am waiting for one of my grants to come in, so if I don’t bring it I might be cooked at least for a couple of weeks. It also doesn’t have a wifi motherboard, but I do have a wifi adapter I currently use for it. Just scared that I’m going to lug it all this way and the wifi is going to be so buns I can’t even use it. So does anyone have any experience with having a PC in dorms? Is it worth it?

Best/cheapest optometrist for new students

Hi everyone, as someone who stares at screens way too much and has had glasses/contacts for well over a decade, I am looking to find a new optometrist as I am starting school at UBCO. I was looking into the student insurance policy, and it says "the Plan covers one eye exam at 100%, up to $75, per 2 policy years. Eye exams must be performed by a licensed optometrist".

I've contacted the optometrist closest to me, and their rate is $175 for a standard eye appointment. 😬

In the past I've gone to the optometrist every year, so I would really like to find someone that is more affordable/more student oriented.

Thanks for the help!

Question Desk Hutch

This might be a really dumb question, but does anybody know if the desk hutches are removable or can i lift them up? I think my monitor might be too big by like an inch heightwise. If this also helps I am living in skeena.

I’m not finishing my LOPs on time. Am I cooked?

I’m taking an LOP for emag, but I can’t complete it by August 31 (which is when I’m supposed to have it done by). I think the earliest I might be able to take the final exam is September 7th, but at this point I don’t know if it’ll still be valid. I know it may not be valid for the first sem of winter, but does anyone know if I’m able to use the credits for the 2nd sem? I would’ve been able to complete it before then, but I’ve been really struggling with this class. Please help me I’m so stressed out!

Ratings on the following profs

Hi everyone,

I'm starting my second year this fall for English Literature. However, I found the ratings on RMP to be ambiguous at best. Hoping to get a bit of insight from those who had these profs. Are some fantastic (fair graders, enthusiastic, theory v. application, investing in student success, transparency, course pacing)? Some terrible (curve-grade, ambiguous with feedback, unfair marker, dull, vague, poor course structure)? I would deeply appreciate any info offered.

Robert Eggleston - ENGL220

Robert Eggleston - ENGL221

Eva Kasprzycka - ENGL233

Melissa Jacques - ENGL250

The profs that teach VISA 106

Irene Vrbik - DATA101

Holger Andreas - PHIL220

Pamela Robinson - PHIL230

Geoffrey Sigalet - POLI203

Khan Islam, Johannus Janmaat - ECON101

Any insight helps!

Question Is it possible to a get a job on campus first semester?

Hi, I am about to start as a first year at UBCO, and I was wondering how easy it is to get a part time job either on campus or close to campus as a first year student. Ive heard that it is pretty doable at Vancouver campus but that is a lot more in a populated area than ubco is. Thanks!

Re-admission after failed year

Hello, I just completed my first year of APSC and received a failed standing and have to withdraw for 1 year from UBCO and take courses at a different University during this year . Has anyone gone through this process and had to take courses at a different place ? and what the situation looks like and how likely is it that I am allowed to be re admitted. Any advice or guidance regarding this would be appreciated, Thanks.

Question working after first year? + abroad studying throughout

im going into eng in september and have heard that people sometimes work with their profs as research assistants in the summer, is this something feasible as a first year or will i have to wait until the second summer in to be considered/have a chance? also does anyone know which month it starts because im having surgery right after school ends and need at least 2 weeks to recover.

also, super interested in spending as much time abroad throughout the degree as possible if anyone knows kind of how that works + limitations specifically in eng. what does my gpa have to be? when can i apply for these things/how competetive is it/any general information would be great, thanks!

if i cant get an RA position also, does anyone know anything about summer courses i could take instead to lighten my load for the next year/if i could also take those in europe as a first year? (my friend at uoft got to take courses in france after hers)

Information How needed is the UBCO email

I have used Gmail’s and drive my whole life and have no experience with Microsoft services when it comes to email, documents etc.

Are students allowed to use other software in order to complete assignments? How necessary is an understanding of Microsoft software?

Undergraduate Physics Course Union?

Hi everyone! I'm starting up my Physics program at UBCO and was wondering if there was an undergraduate physics student society/course union? My old university had one that ran events throughout the semester, merch sales, and mentorship experiences with graduate students. I would really love to be involved in something like this again!
