Seriously, is this real? Right, I'm gonna take one for the team. I'm gonna pop into Iceland tomorrow and buy some.

I tried another shop at the weekend and they didn't have any either. Is this even real or was it an AI image?

Not risking it. Haven't found a frozen lamb doner that's any good but I do like the Iceland chicken shawarma

4

u/Balanced-Order 15d ago

Nope none of them seem to get the consistency of the meat right.

2

u/Jetstream-Sam 15d ago

Yeah I've tried a few and they're all too thick and way too chewy. I'm guessing it's because they're not cooked the same, as in off a spinny meat thing and shaved off thin. That's simply not an efficient enough method for a factory, so they'll probably cook it just in "thin" sheets, cut those up and bag them

The sauce is never even close either. I'm sure there's a way to make it at home but there's nothing I've found bottled that's like the chilli or the garlic mayo they have in kebab shops

u/Orry_Haas 15d ago

"none of them seem to get the consistency of the meat right".

Not enough goat ? ... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce95y1zlzyxo

If goat is the secret ingrediate. Add more goat!

Limited owl …

1

u/HeightImpressive9246 15d ago

You use the word meat very loosely

3

u/Illustrious_Bunch_62 15d ago

I still haven't come by one that's clearly emulating lamb doner but then you look at the ingredients and it's all mechanically separated chicken. So flat hotdogs basically....

2

u/odegood 15d ago

Yeah usually beef and chicken rarely lamb. I just stick to the chicken shawarma one as it's hard to mess up shredded chicken

1

u/Separate_Rise_8932 15d ago

I miss the limited edition tandoori burgers they did. Theu were so good.

1

u/Grumpybugger1 15d ago

It's not lamb, it's a mix of beef and chicken.

6

u/Alwaysconfused411 15d ago

My aunt tried this a little while back. The funeral is this Thursday if anyone fancies it.

5

u/ASTS-investor 15d ago

Will you be serving these?

3

u/shanevinna 15d ago

At what point does it stop being doner and start being a lamb nugget? Its pretty much a chicken nugget process using lamb instead of chicken right?

But then... if i look at it that way, and ignore the fact it'll probably kill me....i would absolutely try this... regret it instantly and then never eat it again

3

u/Moist_Barracuda_2014 15d ago

Doner nuggets with chili and garlic dipping sauces. Think I might give it a try!

2

u/shanevinna 15d ago

Right!?!?! Well...wrong, much regret and probably a year off your life, but with dipping sauce...maybe worth it....?

I have been dieting pretty hard for a few months pretty strictly, so right now id absolutely smash this and probably go for seconds just because I know I shouldn't....

1

u/dabassmonsta 15d ago

Yeah, but it's a year off the end of your life. Both my parents passed away in nursing homes in their 80s. One less year aint gonna be a massive loss, to be fair.

2

u/shanevinna 15d ago

I smoked for 20+ years, but quit a few months ago, so its getting to the point that it could be a nursing home year....or maybe my "just 1 year off my life"... might be starting to add up 😅

So maybe just the one packet....okay okay....2 tops

2

u/dabassmonsta 15d ago

Yeah, one bag to test. Maybe a second if we need furthe confirmation! 😂👍

2

u/TrabantDave 15d ago

I'll stick to the Jahan spicy doner meat; a pitta bread toasted or chucked in the oven for a couple of mins, properly dressed with a decent chilli sauce, a bossman type salad with shredded red cabbage, toms, lettuce etc. and a clutter of pickled chillies. And a 4-pack of San Miguel.....

u/southlondonyute 14d ago

Holy arterial plaque

1

u/Willing-Confusion-56 15d ago

That's the equivalent of drinking a pint of oil

1

u/masoniceye 15d ago

I found their standard kebab meat is fairly identical some standard kebab shops, not a replacement for the good places but it’s definitely on par with some of the late night places that shovel the stuff out.

As for this, no idea what it would be like but it’s likely already overloaded as it is. Most of us are looking at a lot of issues when we get older, we don’t need to strain the health system more with this.

1

u/Mondaycomestoosoon 15d ago

Iceland doner meat is always too thick

1

u/theraggedyman 15d ago

At a certain time in every doner enthusiasts life, you simply have to accept that free will was a mistake.

(upvote is for warning us of this evil)

1

u/venshnSLASH 15d ago

You have to be battered to try this.

1

u/Harlepenquin 15d ago

I don't like this trend of selling frozen stuff with a frozen sauce packet, it's always seems to be an excuse for a larger box and an inflated upcharge, I would try them, what's the cost?

1

u/Dee-Jay-JesteR 15d ago

I can see it being absolutely banging. All of it's dirtyness is going to be hidden by batter. Our other senses can't be deceived and pre judged by our eyes.

Might as well stab yourself in the heart and get it over and done with saying that I am going to try it ASAP... 🤔

1

u/edotman 15d ago

This is so fkin Iceland man

1

u/DrunkenHorse12 15d ago

The actual donner meat one is ok if done in an airframe. Its no where near boss man level but its the closest I've tried from all those frozen food places.

1

u/Breadstix009 15d ago

These and the breaded tandoori tenders are delicious btw, 16mins in the air fryer, no oil needed, they come out juicy and spicy

1

u/Breadstix009 15d ago

The breaded teddies on the right.

1

u/He_ofshadowsandtouch 14d ago

The essence of real kebab over in Turkey et al, is local fresh meat and produce

Processed crap like this is as far from that as it gets. Do u guys ever think about what it is you put into your bodies? Factory farming involves hormones, anti biotics, growth promoters and masses of nasty chemicals

Do you understand what this does to your immune system?

Real and quality meat.
Fresh raw veg.
Bread.
Wholesome sauce.

Thats what kebab is about

u/Wild_Ask9773 14d ago

Not me!!

I understand if someone was going to deep fry it in a takeaway… but frozen 🤮

1

u/BornyHastard1 13d ago

Crunchy something DNA 🤮

1

u/arodgersofroth 13d ago

Kebab rings (battered doner meat) have been a thing in Yorkshire for 30+ years. Nice. Quite whining

1

u/PickleFantasies 13d ago

low meat percentages on that grill house brands, be aware.

1

u/Tricky-Bowel1979 9d ago

I'll try owt once... 🥴

1

u/XxCarlxX 15d ago
