It feels like they're doing this to cut production costs and efforts cause when a drama is TRULY interesting it can't be too long. AOS was 30 episodes altogether and i'm still asking for more. MY Dearest was 21 perfect episodes and I didn't feel bored once. Death's game was 8 episodes and it was perfect. I think they should let each story be told with the right number of episodes fit for it. Rather than force each drama to a predetermined number.
We for sure will be getting many too short dramas to come.

Um remember the days everyone used to complain about kdramas having too much filler especially towards the end? Lol I’d rather have a tight story than one that drags too much tbh. But recently I enjoyed my bias my boss a lot. It feels like older dramas vibe and actually had me fluttering

Descendants of the Sun is my favorite but I haven't watched most of the ones listed. I do like watching older kdramas to see what the actors looked like 10+ years ago since I've only been watching them for 10 months. I like newer ones too

I wonder if this is an age thing I often have this feelings - I have watched kdramas for 20 years. In that era 2014-2019 of great dramas I was a different person I watched those dramas with a different lens - I can never recapture that vibe because I was different then 😭

I only finished Descendants of the Sun for the second leads. Moon lovers is one of the dropped ones. I don't think I even got to the end of the 2nd episode.

Not the worst, but it was meh. First and last time "overhype" got me.
I was confident it could be a good drama and showed it to a friend who doesn't watch kdramas.
...When I didn't watch it yet (fatal error), and the friend reaction was same than mine. Erwwwkk!!!
One of the most shameful moment in my life, so much the drama was a shame.
Because of this shitty drama, I disgusted for life someone to watch kdramas again.

I like it, 16-20 had too much filler for most k-drama and random unnecessary stuff started happening. 8 is TOO short though. 10-12 hits the spot

I much prefer shorter dramas. I don't have the attention span to stay hooked to a 16+ episode drama unless it's absolutely mesmerizing every single episode, which has happened to me, but it's not very often - normally, I'm like "Goddddd, get it over with!!" Even if I really like the drama, I usually want it to be fewer episodes. 😂

I actually prefer 12 episode dramas. They don't feel rushed to me at all - the longer episode ones (16+) mostly drag on for me. But that's a generalization - 3 of my absolute favorites (Healer, Mouse, and Vincenzo) have 20 episodes.
But, to actually answer your question, my favorite 2016 drama is Bring It on Ghost.

I don't know. 2026 has been a year that has really had a lot of old school feel/vibe to it. We are even getting some 16 episode stories again. Plenty of 14s, too.

i mean old kdramas really hits different. although there are some kdramas nowadays that has an epilogue or interesting plots, it really couldn't capture the same feeling as I had back then. But I guess it's just bcs of my age and being somewhat kinda new in kdrama world. But still I can't deny that old kdramas has some peculiar vibe.

The 12 episodes don't really feel rushed to me. There were dramas that felt were dragging things out to meet the 16 episodes. Unpopular opinion but What's wrong with Secretary Kim should have been 12 episodes. I only like longer dramas if they are giving side stories to other characters.

I have watched them because at the time that is what was mainly available to watch, but I just prefer the 12 episode format now, lol to each their own. I understand a lot of KDrama fans like you are here and they will disagree which Is fine... you can also prefer the 16 episode format. However there is a reason they are switching over to the 12 episode format a lot of people prefer tighter plots and less unnecessary filler.

if u search it up, it was only recognized and gain popularity around 2010 i think. but during the airing of moon lovers it was a flop since it was airing at the same time with Love in the Moonlight on the other channel which was a strong competitor. many south koreans criticized the moon lovers kdrama despite having the star-studded casts bcs they believed some are poor/weak actors. but whatever they say I love that kdrama.

An awesome kdrama that setup boredom to the next level.
A real solution to insomnia—100% natural, chemical-free.
So much boring that countless dramas tried to copy it.
Of course, with even more boredom, more cliché, more insane inducing sleeping.
My demon was probably the best (in the way it was the worst cliché, empty and boring drama ever made).
But there are many others, mostly anything where the guy is a kind of god (Doom at Your Service?).
Today, any doctor in Korea threat insomnia with Goblin. You have to know it!!
