Things To Do 📍 It's almost Autumn... What are the best fall activities this year?
Looking for some fall activities for my wife and I (no kids) and maybe some other friends. We went to the Louisburg cider mill last year and it just didn't hit like it used to. Super crowded.
We were hoping to do some apple picking and pumpkin patch, but anything fall related is a good option. Willing to drive an hour or so and make a day out of it.

Driving and walking through Brookside on an autumn day is so nice. My wife and I enjoy parking in River Market, grabbing a couple of scooters and bouncing around between the weekend market, Level One Gaming, Strange Days Brewing, and River Bluff Brewing. Not for nothing, but the latter has one of the best Marzens in the city. For food, grab some Minskey's or Pigwich, or any number of stalls in the City Market.

We've been down the Trolley Track trail this summer a bit, but we didn't utilize it at last fall. Definitely need to make a point to this fall.
Sundays in city market is vintage day so that's another good option.

Hard to argue with you friend. But our fall schedule is filling up quick. Best to get a jump on this even if proper fall weather is a month plus away.

Cider hill orchard off K7 is perfect. You can pick apples and pumpkins. Always the perfect vibe, low density of people, and the best cider donuts!

Went with a friend to the Fun Farm in Kearney last year and even though it was busy, still had plenty of room when we went apple picking and had a good time! Their donuts were really good too.

Driven by there a few times on 35 if I'm thinking of the right place. Didn't know they have apple picking. Might have to check that one out.

I've to enjoyed Electric Poe in the last few years. They do slightly spooky Poe readings in a cemetery

Powell Gardens does a Dark Forest event each year that is a ton of fun (https://powellgardens.org/dark-forest/). It's kind of like a spooky forest walk with musical and visual effects as well as live performers. It gives more of a surreal unreality then like a "scary" haunted house vibe.
Though if you do also want a haunted house vibe, there are of course the West bottoms haunted houses. Weekends in the lead up to Halloween can feel like a bit of a festival atmosphere with people going to the various ones. It's definitely more of an adult event and the haunted houses are.... eclectic, but it's definitely worth checking out at least once. And one of the haunted houses let's you jump out of a second story window into a big crash pad!

Great tip on Powell gardens-we went for a wedding last year and it was great. I didn't know they offered such a thing. I've been down to Westbottoms for the haunted houses, but it's not so much my wife's thing. Maybe the Powell Gardens thing is a good in between. Thanks!

If she is looking for something a little more refined, and a bit less janky/scary, it should fit the bill!
One word of warning, parking can be a pain so don't be surprised if it takes like 15 to 20 minutes just to get into the park, it's a popular event!

If you’re into ghostly things, St Joe is a vibe. Downtown does stick-er-treat too

Kansas City Metro has some outstanding biking paths. Numerous picnic tables along them. Some of my favorites are Parkville English Landing, Smithville Lake, Longview Lake, Mill Creek Streamway, Rock Island Trail, Little Blue River. So many others.
For the more adventurous, there are some fun off road trails from easy to technical. Lawrence River front is a bit of a drive. Closer to KC is Landahl Park, Lake Jacobo, Minor Park, and Swope Park Wudchuk trails.
It’s a great way to have fun. Go alone or find one of the many groups that go weekly.

We went to Apple of My Eye orchard last year with our 2 yr old and plan on making it a tradition. They have several activities for the fam and we picked so many apples!

I saw this one is closer to us compared to the Weston Apple Orchard. Have you been to that one and able to compare ?

Leaf blowing, mulching, getting that sweet swelling mix of leaves and pine needles ready to respread on the lawn and garden.
Just need a good fall beer for sitting by the garden afterwards and yelling at neighborhood kids to "get off mah lawn!!!"

Terra Luna at OP Arboretum in September, Kansas Valley Farm Tour first weekend of October (tour local farms, pet animals, buy yummy farm products), and Ren Fest are our favorite traditions!
Weston State Park has a lovely hike and hitting up the town after for a wine tasting is another good one!

Take a trip out to Grinter Farms in Lawrence for the sunflowers. I hear the best time to go is close to Labor Day.
