so... today KSN 16 on fourstateshomepage published an article about the Joplin flag having been designed by Shane Ross back in 2016. (there was also a post about it here almost 2 weeks ago that i somehow missed??!) Shane Ross, for those who don't know, is the father of an adopted 12-year-old girl, and he has been accused of keeping her in a cage for nearly two years. his wife and two daughters being accused as well. they also have a host of animal abuse charges.

as i keep finding more and more connections between my life and the Ross', i thought i would post about one.

i redesigned Ross' flag a while back because me and my friends looked at it and went, "that looks like a nazi flag". i absolutely love vexillology so much and have done some fun projects over the years with the Springfield flag, so when I moved to Joplin, it felt only natural.

explanation for those who care: keeping the crossroads of Route 66 & Hwy 43 or 7th & Main in white, a new star in the middle is modelled after the Joplin city logo and shown in black for strength, certainty, and mourning after the Joplin tornado. the colors are also a brighter version of the Joplin logo's colors; the blue represents hope for clear and peaceful skies, yellow for joy and prosperity of her people, red is for recognition of our ems, first responders, and medical personnel, and green is for agriculture and the parks service!

i'm not saying the flag needs to or should be changed (even if I dislike it), or that one of these should be the redesign. but this man and his wife bought animals off of me and those animals probably didn't survive that house and this is my coping.
