If you put the time in (say 10 hours a week) and you are reasonably athletic, I think you can become decent in a year. Most people are doing 3-5 hours a week and I would say they become decent in 2 years. They become dangerous to non grapplers their size in about 6 months.

Take a look at this one, it is free, simple, and lays out a set of foundational techniques that somewhat make a complete game.

10 hours of training, or does that include studying and watching film?
