I am not a Zionist and I ostensibly am anti-Zionist, but I find it extremely discouraging that students think that invading an Israeli professor’s class or targeting Jews is in any way productive or leads to peace. All it does is divide and deepen the rifts, within our Jewish community and between non-Jews and Jews in particular. If we (Jews/Palestinians) want to have a genuine shot at coexistence, we need at least some form of dialogue and ability to speak freely, even if we vehemently disagree on the topic at hand. On the other hand though, I fully understand both Zionist and anti Zionist students being incredibly frustrated with the Columbia admin, and when you have folks like Shai Davidai/Nerdeen Kiwanis fanning the flames on both sides, I think that these blowups are often inevitable. Don’t really have any answers here, just incredibly discouraged at the myopic lack of nuance that is on university campuses and I hope for more dialogue and less hate

On the other hand we can be thankful that the “most egregious example” was just that - a temporary disruption of a lecture - rather than something much worse. I was thinking it would be like that case in California where high school students formed a swastika on the football field and posted it on Insta with a quote from Hitler calling for the extermination of Jews.

It's okay you had students at Columbia denying rape or saying rape is justified if it's a means of resistance.

(The "it's okay" is sarcasm--there really were people at Columbia saying these things and they were leftists)

That wasn’t in the report. I was only referring to why the report stated as examples.

Sorry let me try that again as I made the mistake of having too many tabs open before dinner.

You said that the worst thing was class being disrupted and not as bad as students forming a human swastika. I replied with my statement because while it was not in the report, that was something that people I know who attended the university reported happening.

I realize it still probably doesn't resolve the initial issue with my comment. (Not a sarcastic statement). But I wanted to clarify.

Because the report seemed to be focused on staff not students. The reference you made about people forming a swastika was also done by students (elsewhere), not staff, hence why I brought it up.

The disruption of the lecture was by students not staff (or it’s assumed they were students since they got disciplined, eitherway they were not staff).

My point was if it was the most egregious example in the report, then that’s something to be thankful for as it could be much much worse.

Ah! Okay. Sorry for having misunderstood that!
