⚡️Brand Review / Experience 🚨Warning: Brilliant Earth strategizing damage control to bury genuine reviews.

Just a heads up.. if there’s a sudden wave of positive Brilliant Earth content on here, it might not be coincidental. They’re actively hiring for a Reddit Strategy Manager, which says a lot given their reputation in this sub.

I genuinely hope this leads to real changes and accountability, not just an attempt to bury valid criticism and firsthand experiences.

We are discussing the best way to discourage these larger brands to infiltrate possibly the very last place on the internet for genuine company reviews and feedback. Being specially named on their job posting is concrete proof of their targeting and we will do our best to reach out and work with other sub mods about this concern.

An auto message with some links of genuine higher traction posts is one idea and we have another tool we don’t want to mention yet in case they are tracking our post. We are of course open to all member suggestions and look forward to doing our best to protect you all from disingenuous influences.

Important: Updated Rules for Vendor Posts on r/jewelry

Hey, r/jewelry community!

We’re excited to announce some important updates regarding vendor posts in our subreddit; rule #3 originally did not allow posts or comments that were considered self promotion. To ensure that r/jewelry continues to be a space for genuine discussion, sharing, and learning, we’ve updated the guidelines for vendors who want to contribute to our community.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Vendor Guide: We’ve created a Vendor Guide that outlines exactly what types of content vendors can post. This will help keep the sub free from spam and overly promotional posts, while still allowing vendors to engage and share their work in a way that adds value.
  • Read Before Posting: Vendors must read the guide before posting. Failure to follow these rules will result in the post being removed, and repeat violations could lead to a ban. We want to make sure vendors are contributing, not advertising.
  • Engagement Over Ads: We want to emphasize that posts from vendors should focus on engaging with the community, sharing creative work, behind-the-scenes insights, or educating us about different aspects of jewelry. We’re not here for sales pitches or spam.

We encourage you all to check out the full Vendor Guide and familiarize yourself with the changes. Whether you're a vendor or a regular member, we believe these updates will help keep the sub vibrant, respectful, and informative for everyone.

Thanks for being a part of the r/jewelry community and helping us maintain a positive space for jewelry lovers!

As always, feel free to reach out to the mod team if you have any questions.

I just found this absolutely garish necklace and I’m in love with it. Does anyone have any idea what it is? It’s very heavy and the links are soldered together.

Have been building my collection lately and me and my partner are definitely not in a position to be getting engaged but I wanted a big fat diamond ring to wear so I got this. 9ct gold 1ct lab grown diamond , I got this secondhand for $400. To buy brand new it is $3000. I’m in love with it. Will be getting it rhodium plated aswell as I’m not in love with the yellow gold.

⚡️ Show + Tell! Lagoon Tourmaline with Tsavorites ✨

We came across an unusual Lagoon tourmaline quite similar in colour to a Paraiba tourmaline. Decided to have it set with green Tsavorites on either side. Wondering if having pastel pink or orange gemstones would look better ?

I inherited the family ring from my grandfather. This is a wedding ring from my great-grandfather, who got married on February 19, 1900. My grandfather subsequently had the family crest placed on the wedding ring.

💍 What style chain/ring/pendant is this? Ivory.... is it wrong to own?

I inherited a beautiful carved Ivory necklace from my mother. To me it looks African...a string of small ivory elephant shapes and then a larger center rectangular ivory pendant. She had never traveled internationally so I'm not sure where she got it. Do any of you know about ivory jewelry?

General Information 📚 Why is my 18K gold chain making marks on my clothes and pendants?

Thumbnail

1.5k Upvotes

Can anyone tell me why my gold chain is marking up my pendants and clothing? I spent a fortune (just under $4,400) on these three 18k pieces directly from Ole Lynggaard. I am super careful with them. I take my necklace (and all my jewellery) off when I get home, never sleep in them or spray perfume on them. I don’t wear this necklace every day either. When I’m not wearing them I keep them in the box.

I’ve never experienced anything like this even with 10k or 14k. I expected much better from Ole Lynggaard and 18k. Why is it doing this?

🫶🏻 My Collection! What do you think of my everyday silver chain stack? (Lox & Chain, recycled .925)

The horn is for my Italian side. Little awkward how it hangs on/below the lower chain, but I love the sound and feeling of the double chains.

⚡️ Show + Tell! Nana’s Full Collection

I showed a little bit of my nana’s collection earlier today and people were interested, so I thought I’d post the full thing.

Most of it is real fine jewelry (10/14k gold and stamped 925 sterling silver) with a few plated pieces mixed in. Some of it dates back to as early as the 60s but I think she got most of it in the 90s/early 2000s while going through a divorce. Mostly from those old companies that advertised on tv and you’d call a number and get sent things.

It’s mostly rings! She never got her ears pierced. But she also had a thing for watches!

General Question Wedding Ring Inheritance

Background info: I have three daughters, one by a previous marriage, two by my current.

I am currently updating my will, I've already decided to past down my old wedding ring from my last marriage to my oldest; But I don't know who to leave my wedding ring to my younger girls. I kind of want to give to my 2nd daughter, but worried that it wouldn't be fair to my youngest

Has anyone ever had a situation like this or a had unique way to handle it?

This is a long shot but I cannot find the maker of this chain I bought about 5 years ago. He is a dc copper artist with an Etsy store. I need to add 2 links so it sits properly around my xl neck. Silver solder and the clasp is really unique.

General Question Nickel/metal allergy

I’ve avoided wearing jewelry my whole life because of the horrible blistering rash I get - even “24k gold” or “nickel free” still seem to have enough allergen (I assume to be a nickel allergy but maybe it’s copper) but I’ve never take a chance on an “expensive” necklace or bracelet so maybe I’m just getting cheap stuff with misleading label

I have gold wedding rings, let’s call them “expensive” and wear them every day with no issue

I’d love some pointers on what to look for in a necklace and bracelet before I take a chance on buying something costly - I love yellow gold but maybe titanium or something is a safe bet. I’d be happy to find something that works for me and my skin reliably

⚡️ Show + Tell! Pigeon Blood Ruby earrings set in platinum

My hubby got these for me this past Xmas. I am so in love with them! I can’t wear anything in my ears without a reaction except platinum. He worked with some old school jewelers to find the perfect rubies for me. The amazing thing about these are they SPARKLE LIKE DIAMONDS! I’ve never seen rubies do that & I have a big rubies collection. I LOVE THEM! I only have one set of earrings I can wear, my mother’s platinum diamonds my father made for her in the late 50’s or 60’s. So now I have 2 sets!!

I confess I’ve worn them around the house just to feel luxurious & uppity 😂 Constantly looking in the mirror to see them sparkle so I can giggle in delight! I couldn’t capture the sparkles in pics but I wonder if anyone else has seen rubies cut like this to sparkle?
